...find the slides at Typhoon Lagoon really painful?

I love the park, the theme and the atmosphere, but just about every slide (excluding crush 'n' guhser) was really uncomfortable.

I found Blizzard Beach much more pleasant.

the only slide we go on anymore at TL is Crush & Gusher...once we went on that, we were ruined for all other slides...

we usually go to TL in the late afternoon (about 2 hours before closing)...
we go on C&G for about an hour......then to the wave pool for about 15 minutes (GREAT wave pool) then onto the lazy river until closing (it's great at this time - absolutely deserted)...

on the other hand, we go to BB before opening....go on the slides at the back first......downhill double dipper about 3 times......then the tube slide at the very back (i can't remember the name...the one with 3 slides, one of them covered)....we do that one about 3 times (can't take the stairs for more than that)....then to the tobaggon once, then the family raft slide, then onto the lazy river for about 45 minutes......by this time it's past 11:00 and the snow-cone place is open...so we each get a snow-cone and then we leave the park.....we usually are out of BB before noon......

I haven't been to either of the water parks but DD1 wants to go this year - which is the best one for kids (ages 12 & 6)?

I need some big slides for the eldest and something more sedate for the youngest (& me!).

Overall Blizzard Beach is better than Typhoon Lagoon for that age. Even though TL does have a better wave pool and of course the unsurpassed Crush and Gusher. And it's much prettier.

But in terms of slides and stuff for the under 12 set, BB is a much better choice. There's the "ski patrol" kids area, which is lots of fun. And the family raft is much much better at BB. And the various tube slides are much better at BB (other than crush and gusher, but you can't have everything).

Be sure to get there before opening time. the water parks get really really packed. In the summer, BB usually closes by about noon (no more people allowed in until the later afternoon). Sometimes even before that.

Completely agree. I went a few years ago with quite a large group covering most age groups and tastes and everyone had a great time.

I didn't really answer your original question. I agree with you, we don't particularly like any of the slides at TL except for Crush and Gusher.

As I said, when we go to TL, we only go for C&G, the wave pool and the lazy river.

One other great thing at TL is the surfing course (before the park opens). My kids have taken it 3 times and really enjoyed it. The wave pool is turned up to bigger surfing waves (using real surf boards and taught by surfing specialists). It's really well worth it. Even having to be there at 6 in the morning.

on the other hand, Typhoon lagoon is a stunningly beautiful park....with lots and lots of lounge chairs (BB has a lounge chair shortage in my opinion)...

i just love the look of TL....and we enjoy it more now because of C&G and the wave pool...

it's good we have APs....that way we can pop into TL for just a few hours and not feel like we've wasted our money...

by the way, the soft serve ice cream at typhoon tilly's is the best soft serve in WDW...

I think we went on more of the slides at BB but we loved TL, it was a lovely park and the wave pool is fantastic, we will probably alternate between the two this year. :)

I can't say that I have ever noticed the slides to be uncomfortable in either park :)

We always prefer Typhoon Lagoon to Blizzard Beach though simply because the wave pool is such fun :teeth: I even managed to get DW to slide down Humunga Cowabunga once ;) she wont go near Summit Plummet at BB though!

Yep after going on the slides including Crusher Gusher I had many bruises in interesting places!!

I love TL and BB but I do love the wave pool at TL more than anything, Im like a bid kid as soon as I hear that bang that tells you the wave is coming, I start grinning for ear to ear, lol :rotfl2:

Sue :wave2:

The only slides I get on are at Tike's Peak and Ketchakiddee Creek - Joshua just loves water.

Crush and Gusher did make me say ouch! a few times but other than that I didn't really notice a problem at either of the waterparks :)

My DD aged 9 prefers Typhoon Lagoon as do I and my DH and DD aged 6 prefer BB.

I love the wave pool at TL and could (and do!) spend hours in there body surfing! I love it :)

Just out of curiosity does anyone find the wave pool floor painful???
I have had many bruised & gashed knees from that wave knocking me off my feet & landing on that horrible hard floor, i wish they would use some soft, padded flooring for us wimps :)

Have never been to either of the Disney water parks but certainly intend to go to one (if not both) this year. Will most likely do BB first and then TL if we have time.

Tracy, we found that at Wet n Wild with the floor of the wave pool. In fact, where I was sitting on the floor of the pool letting the waves wash over me, when I came out I had loads of tiny pulls in the bum of my swimming cossie.

I Know what you mean, Tracey. I got caught out once and then developed a technique to avoid gashes - basically I just go with the current and make sure I am deep enough not to end up on the floor.

Joh - LOL me too (swimming costume ruined ;) )

If you go to TL... BEWARE when the wave comes, even if your in the shallows you are not safe from being wiped off your feet... I know, it happened to me &...
My brother has some great video footage of his daughter paddling in the shallows when the wave is coming & this guy is walking along behind her carrying two drinks & this - what looks like - little inocent wave comes & he goes over drinks & all!!!!
Best to sit & watch before you dare to enter lol
