Hi all my husband was just diagnosed with very high blood pressure and has been put on medication, do the sighns warn people with high blood pressure or just heart conditons, my husband says he's going on everything anyway...but im the worrier.. anyone with a similar situation...thanks: :)

all i can do is share my experiences on this.

i have very hbp and take meds for it. have been on them for some time now and it still runs high.

i go on all the rides, coasters and anything in the park.
i just ignore the signs that warn against going on them..........lol

i don't have any bad medical reactions to going on the rides.
as long as i don't miss a dose each morning, i am fine.

this is something that i can't answer for you but something you two and the doctor should discuss. all i can share is i have not had any bad effects from going on the rides.

some doctors advise against certain rides, some don't.
if he would go on a ride that has a warning and gets light headed or has that extra heart beat while on it, then that would be the time to take a break from the thrill rides.

I had a major heart attack (accute myocardial infarction) about 3 years ago (I was 39 years old at the time), high blood pressure was certainly a contributor, I had 3 stints put in and am taking multiple medications (five of them to be exact). Anyway, I am fully recovered and have been working out and in better shape now than when I was 30, my BP is way down now so I do not worry about the rides

There are "heart condition" warnings on lots of the rides, probably most rides (there was even one on the water slide at HRH), my DD10 read one of them and tried to stop me from going on the ride .... hah!! no way, I rode everything!!

The signs are just "insurance" for the parks .... heed them if you like, or ignore them if you feel comfortable. My guess is that if you have a heart attack on one of the rides and they find out you had an existing heart condition than you might have difficulty in court if you tried to sue the park.

I guess my suggestion would be to start out slow and work your way up to Dragons and Hulk ... no sense starting off big only to find out that your high BP and fast rides don't mix well.

Just my opinion ... I am not a doctor!!!!! ... just had to add that little disclaimer :rolleyes1

thanks..but do the warning signs near the ride say heart condition cause his hearts fine its just hbp, but do the signs also say high blood pressure...thanks all

Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to stroke, heart attack, heart failure or kidney failure. So, really, high blood pressure does relate to your heart directly and indirectly. If his blood pressure is being controlled by medication (resulting in a normal blood pressure reading) I wouldnt worry.

If his blood pressure is as you said 'very high' and remains untreated he shouldn't ride. This is all just my opinion.

MSWint, wow you are one lucky guy! Congratulations on your recovery and getting yourself healthy!:thumbsup2

FAN2CSKR..Thanks, yes he is taking medication and is being controlled but i know what you mean by them all being connected with the hbp.. i guess its all up to eveyone's own discretion...thanks all

i hope he is doing fine and no more boo boo's on the health scene for him

You mentioned that your husband was just diagnosed but do not mention when your trip is. The medication requires time to be effective. Do not just rely on anecdotal advice but rather, as macraven said, the two of you need to talk to his doctor first. No thrill ride is worth a serious risk to your health.

calgarygary, i am going in july so hopefully the medicine has worked and i will definetly be asking the dr. even if my husband says not too..thanks
