I just signed my contract last night and I must admit I'm a little worried about the economy having a effect on my wedding, I know this sounds really prissy, but my engagement periord will be close to a total of three years, since we decided to wait and save a year & a half. I know there are much more important things to worry about, but I waited quite a long time to finally plan my wedding so it's most important to me right now.

I can definitely tell already my guests size will be much smaller because I don't see alot of my guests making the trip with money being so tight for them. :guilty:

Sorry if this is off topic, just wanted to get it off my chest

i don't think you're off topic at all! there are many ways to save on your dftw. it is still possible (even in these times) to have a beautiful, on budget, disney wedding!

Crisis? What Crisis? Not if you saw the shopping mall I went to yesterday!!! :rotfl:

I know exactly how you feel, though. :flower3: I had an engagement period of 3 years and the money stuff can be really scary. I don't think I've ever spent this kinda money ever in my life and I do feel a tad bit guilty for our family spending all this money to come see us. I know I shouldn't but I know our families aren't wealthy.

This is exactly why we decided to go with a very simple ceremony, and a nice Disneymoon! Spending quality time together was much more important to us than spending all the extra $ (not to mention the extra stress) on a big wedding.

We are paying cash for everything, especially considering how unstable the economy is...I want us to be able to really enjoy ourselves, instead of worrying about finances during our Honeymoon.

I agree- definitely not off topic!! I am blessed to have a job that I know will never go away (Nurse) but am still very concerned for everything htat is going on including the issues for our guests! I will have to say that since disney can easily be made into someones vacation at the same time as a wedding it is a nice combination not to mention that just yesterday a friend of mine is already upto over 25000 and doesn't even have hair/makeup/dress/accessories/dj...ETC a lot of different things included yet! (She is having an at home wedding) I definitely think it is possible to have a great wedding at disney for less than that!

I agree on the Disney for less! We live in the NY metro area and I read that the AVERAGE wedding here is $35k! The southeast is actually the least expensive regionally at around $23k. Of course, tips and tricks help immensely on how much or how little you'd like to spend regardless of where you live.

I agree with the anxiety about the economy too. My parents are paying for the majority of it through their market fund, which is making us all go :scared1:

As long as you can make a plan for everything (i.e. DIY or buy on sale) and stick to your budget, don't worry. :goodvibes

I'm worried less about MY expenses and more about my guest list! I have already had one guest tell me they will not travel because of the economy and I doubt they are the only ones. We are still on the fence about a Disney wedding, and if none of our guests can travel, then we will stay at home.

I so don't mean this the way it may look but none of our guests are wealthy in the sense where they wouldn't have to plan ahead or think about the cost of things but a lot of our guests are coming from ny so they are flying down and with plenty of advanced notice no one has mentioned about how the economy would hold them back from coming to our wedding. Mention it to them and especially since i see your date is in november of next year there is plenty of time for them to save if they started now!

Of course I've worried about it - not for myself, but for my guests. My friends are a bunch of college students! We are broke by nature! :lmao: But when I thought about it, I figured it really wouldn't be that bad if they were coming down for the weekend. Under 200 plane ticket from Manchester NH to Orlando and then they can get 4 in a room at the one of the "Pop" resorts for 80 or so - 20 a night each. I am putting aside enough for a few special friends who wouldn't be able to afford it to come down at my expense.

I've been buying things as I see them - I'm starting to run out of room here! lol.. but seriously, I think if you plan things out and do alot of DIY you're better off in the long run with a Disney Wedding. My family is in Massachusetts and Texas and it's 400 for a flight from Boston to Presque Isle Maine :scared1: And also up here, there isn't much for wedding places (I mean florists and that ilk), so you're at the mercy of whomever has the monopoly on what you need.

So in conclusion - yes it's in the back of my mind. Gosh I'm long winded ;)

I think that when you decide to have a destination wedding you accept the fact that some guests may not be able to make it due to finances. And I'm sure you did accept that it just sucks that with the economy even less guests will not be able to make it. Luckily, none of my guests have said anything to the effect they can't make it. Try to let them know as many ways to save money as possible.

I think my worries were were more along the lines of, we are in a financial crisis and here I am spending on flowers, weclome bags, and, bridal T-shirts when there are alot of people laid off right now...:confused3

I guess it's guest I signed a contract so I'm held accountable for a certain amount and I'm spending more money that I think I have spent on my life and so I'm worried with economy affecting my career and Df's, we are both pretty secure with our jobs, but I'm sure alot of Americans thought the same things before they were laid off....;)
I guess I'm just worry that's all, I tend to worry about things before I really need to, so really I'm worried about worrying!:goodvibes

I do know that my guest list will definitely be shorter due to the current state of mind of most people, but I still think I'm saving a ton of money by doing a destination weddings, and I've learned a ton of ways to cut my budget and I'll be sticking to it! It's funny because I'm the one who has to keep reminding DF that we need to decide our top priorities instead of getting everything we want and that is offered.

I'm just worried thats all and I was wondering if anyone else was thinking the same way, I actually meant to say I signed my contract last week, not last night

Yes, I posted this in the other wedding/economy thread.

All but a couple of our guests are working class. I will be sending out save-the-dates 7 months before the wedding so they can start saving. We are having an Escape wedding, so there's not a lot of guests anyway. Most will be my family, so I'm hoping they will share rooms at POP, or even stay offsite if they wish. Nothing I am planning will be in a park - so guests don't have to stay onsite or even buy a park ticket. The wedding is on a Friday, so they can all head on over to WDW after work on Thursday and only miss one day of work.

Should my DF get laid off (I am a stay at home Mom), if we have to postpone the DFTW we will still do our civil ceremony on our 11 year dating anniversary and just postpone the DFTW part.

we were also worried as from the UK the dollar exchange rate was dropping so the wedding was becoming more expensive. I guess we missed alot of the crisis thats happening at the moment but it worried us alot
