Anyone else worried about their stay at the Poly?

I am reading all of these posts about people coming back from their Polynesian stay and I am getting worried about the housekeeping issues that seem to be the norm instead of just one or two incidents

We are staying there for the first time in November

Anyone else?

Ditto! We will be there for the first time in November and yeah, all the recent negative posts do have me concerned, but mostly because we had a similar bad experience with housekeeping at AKL last year. And I never read posts about their housekeeping being bad, so does that mean it will be even worse at the Poly?!

I'm trying not to worry about it, what will be will be. BUT, unlike at the AKL when I didn't demand resolution for our problems, I won't be quite so accepting of unacceptable conditions if it happens at the Poly. I'm a very easy to please person but certain things are just not acceptable and I'm going to grow a backbone if it happens again.

Stepping down off my soapbox now... :rolleyes1

Totally agree with you

I guess we have been lucky that in our 20 stays at WDW over the years we have never had an issue but I have never seen so many negative reviews on housekeeping as I have this year

We got back about a week ago after nine nights at the Polynesian. We stayed in the Tahiti building ground floor. We made up Mousekeeping envelopes to leave for the maid every morning with a few dollars in it and a note requesting extra towels and washcloths. Never had a problem, but different people clean the room throughout the week. That is why we tip everyday-at the end of your trip a different person may get the entire tip and had never cleaned your room. Sometimes we had more than enough to shower twice a day other times only a few extras were left.

Our fridge froze up one day, but maintenance brought a new one in 30 minutes. The light above the fridge was gone, but was replaced halfway through the stay. Kinda strange.

Other than that our room was cleaned well everyday and new sheets to sleep in at night. We never leave clothing on the floor or beer bottles laying around the room. Some people just flat out trash their rooms-I have seen some:scared1: . Every time we have stayed at the Poly our room was clean and well taken care of. Hope that makes you feel better:)

I didn't know we were supposed to tip the housekeeping. We just got back and we didn't tip, and the housekeeping was great.

We always tip daily too for the same reasons, we may not get the same person each day. We also never leave anything out in our room even the shoes get put in the closet. I agree with you we have seen some rooms totally trashed and I hope those people aren't planning on wearing the clothes that are all over the floor

Tipping is not required. Its just a considerate thing to do in whatever resort you stay in; not just Disney. I know a lot of people no longer do this but it was something I was brought up with and it doesn't occur to me to do otherwise.

As to the Poly housekeeping, we stayed there in high summer for 10 nights and never had a housekeeping problem. The room was cleaned well everyday and it was done early. Please keep in mind that that there are people on this board who will throw sand in a corner behind a curtain and post here that they "tested" housekeeping and found them lacking. Others really do encounter housekeeping issues and those people usually bring up the problem to management before leaving and it is usually taken care of immediately. Different strokes, different personalities.

By the way, how much do you tip per day? And do you just bring your own envelopes and label them Mousekeeping? Thanks. I feel kind of bad now that we didn't tip. Sorry for totally getting off topic from the housekeeping issue, whether it's good or not. I've got a couple other questions on tipping, I think I'll start a new thread to ask :)

We are 4 people so we normally tip $5 per day
If they go out of their way for something, like the time my son got sick and all the bedding had to be changed then we will hand the person who comes up to remake the bed something extra

Tipping is not mandatory for housekeeping we just do it to show our appreciation for cleaning up after us

I've been worried about this too. The more I read the more I wonder if we should pay the extra $100 and stay over at the GF.
I'm glad to read some of the good things here in this thread!!

We tip $2 per person per day. Chambermaids normally get minimum wage, I don't know exactly what Disney pays their's but I am sure it is not much.
[use to be a chambermaid at one point]

Of course people don't HAVE to tip the housekeeping, they don't have to tip for luggage handling either, only place you have to tip is when you have 6 or more people while dining or when buying drinks, then you have no choice it is just added to your bill.
It is however the curteous thing to do, showing appreciation for services rendered.

We were at the Poly a few weeks ago. We left 5 dollars a day in a mousekeeping envelope, there were 3 of us. We have never tipped before but I made up the special envelopes and everything. Our room was spotless everyday and there was always a towel animal. I had a gallon ziplock full of soaps, shampoos, and lotions when we left. One day the soap was set out like a mickey head. It will be hard to stay at any other resort after our stay.
We were on the third floor of Tokelau overlooking the quiet pool.

Hi, I just joined today. I have been lurking for a long time before our trip, which we just returned from last week.

Anyway, I had to jump in somewhere, right? We stayed at the Poly and absolutely loved it. We did not have an issue with housekeeping at all. I think that everyone has their different opinions on how clean is clean! And yes, some housekeepers are better and more effiecient than others. I know that we pay good money to stay here and are expecting the stars and the moon, but just go and have a good time. I had read about the poor housekeeping too before I left and I was a little worried, but when I got there, I was in my happy disney place and my worries disapeared and everything was great. Would defenitely stay there again!:)

I am one of the posters with a bad experience at the Poly, I had read many reviews before my trip and had decided that those unhappy with mousekeeping were just being too picky. Well I was wrong. I am sure there is good mousekeeping at the Poly we were just unfortunate, we had a dirty room and a terrible mousekeeper. My suggestion to anybody in the same situation is to speak up. I did not, I did not want to be viewed as a complainer and now I regret it. Well, you live and learn. I have learned that next time I am ever in this situation, I will speak up immediately.

We just returned from a 3 night stay in the Fiji building. Other than all the mirrors in the place looking like they were never cleaned (in months with the amount of dust and film on them) the room was very clean and bathrooms were spotless. The maids start at 8:30 am and they are very loud and you can hear the carts banging around...made it hard for us to sleep in :goodvibes

We were at the Poly 9/29 - 10/7 of this year and we had no problems w/mousekeeping at all. We tipped $5/day ($1/person in the room). I would have tipped more if our room was trashed but every morning I went around and picked up their toys & baby blanket. Mainly because I don't think its there job to pick up my kids toys plus I didn't want the baby blanket or stuffed animals getting mixed up w/the sheets and disappearing.

OMGosh....I was just coming to the board to post the exact same concerns!! We are leaving in 9 days :cool1: and I'm really worried about the housekeeping issues.

I realize for every one negative comment posted, there are probably 5 positive experiences that aren't posted, however, it does seem like shoddy housekeeping is becomming the norm vs. the exception.

IMO, poor housekeeping is completely & totally unacceptable. I feel this way, no matter what type of resort you are staying, value, moderate, or deluxe. Normally, I am not one to complain about things, however, if I feel the room is not cleaned adequately enough, and that it affects our comfort and our stay there, I will need to say something. I will do this for myself & my family, but also for future guests as well.

If no one complains at the time, to the peeps at Disney, instead of just here on the DIS, nothing will ever change.

Wish me luck, and I'll be sure to let y'all know of my experience! :)
