Thank-you notes should definitely be sent! Don't parents teach their children to say "Thank you" if a person does something nice for them? It seems to me that sending thank-you cards would be in the same vein... I agree with the other posters that if you took the time to plan a wedding/shower/party, you should be able to take the time to put some cards in the mailbox, or at the very least make a phone call. I certainly don't expect them, but I think of it as a sign of good upbringing. It's a shame to see that this courtesy is slowly being forgotten.
