Anyone else watching TLC's "Little People, Big World" reality show?

I've seen a few episodes of this show. But since I had an aunt who had dwarfism, seeing them do normal things is not a big deal to me. So I find the show kind of boring. But good for them, in showing the world they are just like anyone else, only smaller :sunny:

I love this show. My daughter and I watch it. I think it is wonderful that they are showing that they can do anything. I am very short myself (not a little person, but short) so I can relate to some things. Also one of my good friends growing up in school was a little person. She went on to great success, so I've always known that little people can to anything. I heard about Jacob today on the news and hope that he is OK.

I love this show. I think that they are such an interesting family that you forget they even are little people. I look at their house and think "that would drive me crazy" but really it is just a personality thing. I don't think it is that way because any of them are just sitting around.

I thought it was kind of funny that the night before they left for Hawaii they were at the store buying stuff that they needed and then when they showed them packing, you could see the living room was a mess and the vacume was out in the middle of the room. Some people are just like that. If it doesn't bother Amy, I won't let it bother me.

They are a great family. Yeah you see their flaws, but you also see how they love each other despite them! It's one of the few shows that I can sit and watch with my kids!

Oh my goodness about Jacob though! I really hope he's o.k.

You said it - that packing for vacation show was enough to about kill a DIS'er. Very different than making lists months in advance like many here do!

I know!! Coming from the person who was packed a month ahead of time I was spinning in my seat with dismay seeing them SHOPPING the night before!! :rotfl2:

I read on TLC today that both Mike and Jacob will be released from the hospital soon. But a dime size chunck of skull was pushed into Jacob's brain...he had surgery and is improving. They have given an address to send cards and good wishes. They've also requested nobody comes to the hospital because it's all been so overwelming. Amy has been living at the hospital. Who can blame her? I would be too.

They just seem to be a nice family to get to know. I think the farm looks like a lot of love went into it. What a fun place to grow up at!

I was just able to watch this show for the first time this weekend and really enjoyed it !

i like the show and do watch it regularly-but i think the situation with their finances must be a bit misleading. last season there was an episode wherein matt and amy were discussing paying the property tax bill on the farm (i've gotten the impression from reading info. on them the place was purchased outright when he had his earlier software successes-so there's little or no mortgage)-and they were concerned that while they could make the due installment they might not have funds for the next, matt also voiced during the son's shunt hospitalization the expense issue of his uninsurability- then this season rolls around and they do a major high-end trip to hawaii (multi room suite at one of the top resorts, costly activities, meals at spago...) and matt makes a point of saying several times that they've been saving for this trip 'for a long time' (maybe his way of inferring that none of the places 'perked' anything for them). combine the cost of that type of vacation, the massive re-model on the kitchen/family room, hot air ballon rides, matt 'trying out' a helicopter ride because he thought he might want to take lessons (that landed in their front yard) amy's mother's day gift of the professional organizer... all combined it seems like there is an awful lot of expendable income for fun/leisure/wants. so i'm not sure if they are much better off financialy than they lead people to believe-or theres some skewed financial managment (i mean-realy, if i had concerns about paying medical bills or my property taxes a 'hawaii' fund' would be the first resource i'de exhaust).

Does this family get paid for their show ? I also love the show and think about the messy house LOL. It would drive me crazy, but thats me.
Packing the night before a trip OMG. And didnt Molly and Zach have to share one small suitcase.

I hope Jacob and the friend recover soon

I just stumbled on to this show recently... and much to my surprise... Amy was my roomie in college our Freshman year at CMU! :happytv: What a shocker!!

I'm sure they get paid. I wouldn't do that for free!

Thanks for posting on this thread. I had seen an earlier post by you regarding Amy, but was unable to find it.

I'm assuming they are getting paid well for the show, therefore explaining their better financial picture. Good for them! :cheer2:

I watch bits a pieces of this show. What happened to Jacob and his friend?

Well apparently, according to Realitytvworld.com, Jacob, the 9 year old got a bad injury to the head from the catapult. Don't know if it was taped or not.

they way Matt explained it on the message board is they do get a small fee for the show (he wouldn't say what). I was a little confused about the Hawaii trip....he said they paid for the parts that weren't filmed....but the parts TLC wanted filmed, TLC paid for. Even when there were shots of the rooms or eating?? I don't care one way or the other, I was just confused.

Can you imagine...they can't get insurance? Medical bills could eat them alive in a heartbeat. Still, I think a nice family vacation for them was great. They really seemed to have fun.

I had issues with last season because everytime they were in the car not everyone was strapped up. This season seems better.

That's cool....is she as nice as she appears on the show?

YOu know what Amy is going to say about that catapult now don't you?

MATT, GET RID OF THAT THING IT ALMOST KILLED OUR SON!!!! NO WAY AM I GOING TO ALLOW YOU TO HAVE THAT DANGEROUS KILLING MACHINE ON OUR FARM, WHAT IF SOMETHING SERIOUS HAPPENED TO HIM! I TOLD YOU THIS FARM WOULD NEVER MAKE MONEY, DIDN'T I? NOW THIS ACCIDENT JUST PROVED ME RIGHT, THE MEDICAL BILLS ALONE ARE GOING TO DO US IN, GET OUT THERE A GET A REAL JOB!!!

Matt's response: Mom, Jacob is fine, everything is fine, life is good, I'm going to quite my new software job.

:rotfl2:

I love this show, DH was shocked when I told him about Jacob. My DS9 will be sad too. I hope they are both okay.

I am thinking that they have insurance on the average sized members of their family, it is only the dwarfs that can't get insurance. Also, they would have all kids of insurance on their property and for accidents so I am thinking that the friend will be well taken care of.

Poor Jacob. He is such an adorable little boy. I hope he and Matt's partner make a full recovery.

The one thing that really bugs me about this show is the lack of respect that they have for one another.

Very much so... We've just started communicating again! It's been over 20+ years since we've seen one another.

She was a very determined individual and very much her own person, regardless of her size. I have great respect for her. I can't imagine how she carried the twins... that still blows my mind!
