Anyone else watching TLC's "Little People, Big World" reality show?

We watch it, too. We are always commenting on what a good show it is all around, and especially how it portrays the challenges and ordinary situations the family has to deal with.

As someone else has mentioned, I would say the family is much more financially secure than Amy would want anyone to think. The kids are great! The house is indeed messy, but, hey, they are a very busy family. :moped:

One of the earlier posts mentioned Matt not doing anything. On the kitchen remodel show he was rushing to get it finished before he started back to work. At the end of last season he was going back into software sales and would be traveling to South America quite a bit. On a previous show Zach went with him out of town to a hotel sales pitch for his accessibility kits, which clearly shows he was "working" and not just doing nothing.

Before we bash them about the messy house maybe we should realize we are only seeing an hour long show that can cover several days of their lives.

Imagine Amy having 2 jobs and 4 kids to shuttle around. We rarely see all the work that happens on the farm. But we have heard Amy complain that Matt thinks they could live off of the farm. You have to know to have sellable items like pumpkins and fruit you have had to put in time in the fields/orchards. If you're renting the farm you have quite a bit of work to get it ready. Everything from organizing the event to mowing and setting up extras like tents and chairs. We don't see all of that on the shows but it doesn't magically happen either. They do have 1 guy that seems to work for them full-time so I imagine he does much of the manual labor but it would still take time to do all the things we don't see on the show. They lead very full and busy lives and I doubt the house neatness ranks high on their list. If it did the kids would help out more.

Yes, I too watch the show if I happened to catch it while surfing around. Their kids are like mine -- three boys and one girl. Love their farm too.

Count me in as a Roloff fan..especially of Zach. He's just so cute.

I started watching the series last season when it first came on because I'd seen several shows on Discovery Channel about dwarfism, including "Smallest People In the World" (which is about primordial dwarfism). The family seems pretty stable, considering the issues they have to overcome.

Did anybody else see the Mother's Day Brunch ep last night? I cried when they read Jeremy's poem. That was so sweet. And Amy looked like she wanted to strangle the professional organizer. :rotfl2:

TOV

Regarding their finances ... I saw a repeat last week, and Matt said that dwarfism is considered a pre-existing condition, so he, Amy nor Zach are able to get heatlh insurance. Therefore any medical bills he has to pay OOP. I can only imagine how much that surgery Zach had when his shunt messed up cost.

I love this show, and so do both of my kids. I agree that the house is messy, but they are a busy family of 6 and they have a lot going on! Yes, the kids could and should help out A LOT more than they do.

IMO Amy seemed to like the end results of the professional organizer. I did too, hope they can keep it that way.

I appreciated that Matt made sure all the kids did something for their mom for Mother's Day, and he does LOVE his family doesn't he?

Hooked on Little People, Big World!

My son also has liked the special show (not a series) on the family the Fooses, also a dwarf family although they are all dwarfs and they adopted a daughter from Russia that had dwarfism.

This is sad...Jacob has been seriously injured by the catapult they have on the farm.

9-Year-Old Reality-TV Star Injured
MONDAY OCTOBER 30, 2006 05:05PM EST

By Tim Nudd

Jacob Roloff, the 9-year-old member of the Roloff family, who have their own reality show – Little People, Big World – on The Learning Channel, was seriously injured Saturday night in an accident involving a pumpkin launcher on the family farm.

Roloff, whose parents Matt and Amy are dwarfs (Jacob is normal size), was whipped in the face when a catapult at the Roloff Farm was inadvertently triggered, the Associated Press reports. As of Monday morning, he was listed in serious condition at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

Mike Detjen, 58, a family friend, was pinned briefly by the catapult's extremely heavy counterweight and was also in serious condition.

In a message posted to the TLC message boards, Matt Roloff wrote that his son needed surgery but that both patients are expected to make a full recovery.

The second season of Little People, Big World, began airing this month. Jacob has three siblings, one of whom, Zach, is also a dwarf. Much of the show is shot on the farm in Helvetia, Oregon, which is the ultimate playground.

Fed up with missing the height requirement for most amusement-park rides, Matt Roloff, a software salesman, spent four years building his own whimsical Disneyland on the farm. "I'm like the coolest dad around" he told PEOPLE in 2000

Oh my goodness...that is so sad! I like this show...I feel like I know the family a little. I hope he and the family friend will be ok!

I love this show and this family. They are so "real". I can totally relate to their messes, their bickering, their overcommiting their time, etc. and they seem like a wonderful family that love and support each other. I'm kind of a neat freak so I've noticed the house, but I don't think it's so different than the way many people live.

I'm a little puzzled by anyone saying Matt doesn't work. They show him working all the time. Amy has two part time jobs and is extremely busy with the kids - but it's clear to me that she is that way by choice. They are both very ambitious IMO.

I think the kids seem very normal and they show them working on the farm. They probably aren't required to do much in the house. I know sometimes I'm like Amy and like to do it myself, my way. It's pretty clear that Amy isn't bothered by the mess.

Poor Jacob, I hope he makes a full recovery. I also like this family and watch the show all the time.

DH and I watch this every chance we get.

We heard about the accident, and are hoping Jacob is okay.

We saw the interview with Matt and I had to laugh, 'cause he is so non-chalant about things and I know Amy is FREAKING out!

I agree disykat...the jobs really are equally balanced. Amy works her jobs (primarily as a pre-school teacher) while Matt has his software company and his little people supply company. The family tends to the farm and rents out the places that Matt orchestrates for parties, etc.

I have become seriously addicted to this show and it drives me crazy waiting each week for it!

My wife and I love the show and never miss an episode. I sure wish that search was working because there is a DISer here on the CB who went to school with Amy. But I'll be darned if I can find that thread.

Prayers for a speedy recovery for Jacob and for the other person who was injured.

I'm amazed Amy was successfully able to carry the twins during her pregnancy. That must have been very difficult.

That shocked me, too! Even if it didn't cause medical problems (which it obviously did not, thank goodness) it would stink to be nearly as wide out as you are tall! I certainly couldn't handle it!

HILLSBORO, Ore. - A bizarre incident involving a catapult-like device, pumpkins and 3,000 pounds of concrete injured two people at the Hillsboro-area farm of a family that stars in a reality television series.

One of the injured is 9-year-old Jacob Roloff, who stars with his family in a cable TV series called "Little People, Big World."

Roloff and 58-year-old Mike Detjan were both taken by ambulance to an area hospital after suffering injuries.

Matt Roloff, Jacob's father, said that the pair were using a catapult-like device called a trebuchet to launch pumpkins in the air when the incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. at the family farm located near the intersection of Grossen Drive and Helvetia Road.

"(They) were cocking this trebuchet back and the trigger released at the wrong moment and the arm came up and kind of clocked Jacob," the father said. "He'll be fine, but he got hit pretty good. Mike got hit by the big counterweight. It looked worse than it was. I think they're both going to be OK."

The counterweight, which is made of concrete, weighed an estimated 3,000 pounds

He said his son looked more scared than anything while Detjan, his business partner, was worse off.

"Mike looked like he was beat up pretty good because that block had hit him a couple of times," the father said, "but there were no broken bones and he is going to be fine."

The Roloff family, which is made up of little and average-sized people, has gained much media attention as the stars of a television series that documents their lives.

I love the show! As for the house, I guess it shows you that they are a real family and feel they have nothing to hide. I have noticed it messy but I don't think I have ever really paid attention to how messy, I am to interested in the people. I do think their farm is beautiful and I want it!..LOL

OMG! I hope they are both okay.

I love this show and was happy to see the family finally have a nice vacation in Hawaii.
