We are going October 22-29 and I have everything in place- EXCEPT- airline tixs. Still looking for a good price. Am I making a big mistake? Southwest keeps dinging me -- but never for my city. Whats the general opinion.?Lowest I have right now is $79. each way from Air tran, ( but you have to pay $12. each to book adv. seating and also pay for bags. I am so weiry to wait but also don't want to miss a big deal down the road. Need someone to push me over the edge! Thanks to all:scared1:

Have you checked out farecast? It actually is now Bing.com.

They have a "fare-predictor" and part is similar to Kayak, where you can get fares, but they also project the likelihood of what will happen in the next 7 days with airfares.

I have my own opinions on $$ for luggage, but since we live in an area that is currently not served by SW airlines, luggage fees just need to be included in any airline estimates. Now - on the other hand, I would never pay $!2 for advance seat assignments, HOWEVER, our DD is 15 YO, and has flown places by herself, so not necessary for her to sit by either DH or me.

Use sunshine rewards...use a coupon per person and book the flights as two one way tickets, rather than roundtrip. You'll need enough email addresses to get a coupon for each person twice. That saved my family of 4 $200 total and that was enough to go ahead and book the flights. $388 total for all 4 of us from Indy, direct flights for December. It just keeps letting you put coupons in up to the number of people you have booked.

Thanks so much to both of you. I, too, have my opinions about luggage and I do prefer to fly Southwest. What is sunshine? Is it a website? Do the airlines except these coupons?

Sunshine rewards are available for airtran travel through December 18th. It is a special code you can have sent to your email to save $50 per person ($25 each direction of travel). The link is http://airtran.com/sunshine/ and just keep listing emails until you have enough codes.

.... but I don't leave until early December.

I don't have AirTran or Southwest in my airport.....just JetBlue and Continental are my choices.

I'm hoping for a Fall "fare war" to get a good deal. :goodvibes

DO SUNSHINE!!!

I am so thankful for someone else telling me about the 50.00 off (25.00 each way per person) each ticket. That covers our luggage easily.

but only for our return flight. I booked our flight down with Airtran for $79pp and used (3) of the $25 coupons - i.e. one coupon for each of us (best deal I could find flying out of Memphis).

I'm hoping prices will start to dip just a bit more and then I'll go ahead and book those.

I'm still waiting too. We're going Oct. 25-31. I've been watching the DING fares like a hawk. I have our tickets for our flight home, but haven't booked them to get down there. The cheapest I've seen is on Southwest for $78. If I don't see something soon, then I'm just going to book the flight for $78.

First, use the link previously posted to get yourself some AirTran $25 coupons. You will need to send it to two different e-mail addresses for each round trip ticket. This way, you can book your round-trip as two one-ways and save a total of $50. You can still book it as a round-trip, but then you can only use one coupon.

Second, when you are ready to book, go to kayak.com. There, you enter your dates of travel and they will list available flights and airlines. Select the AirTran flight that you want and it will send you to the AirTran website. Now, when you book your flight, you will be able to pre-select your seats and you will not be charged the $6 fee.

If you do these two things, your $79 flight segment will only end up costing you $69 which will include your seat assignments and a checked bag.($79 - $25 coupon + $15 for a checked bag:teacher:)

I did this for my trip in October. Our DTW to MCO leg was listed at $54 and our return was listed at $44. I booked them separately using the above steps and paid a total of $69.20 for a non-stop round trip flight. I also have A+ credits that I've redeemed for upgrade vouchers so now I will be flying business class which includes 2 checked bags for free. AirTran Rocks!:dance3:

You said everything I was going to :goodvibes

I had bought our Sacramento to Orlando tickets for a great price $86 before taxs ect. but we were coming home on a Sunday and prices were higher so I was waiting for a good deal and waiting and waiting finally I gave up last saturday I was going to buy since it was only 23 days till the end of our vacation. Southwest had been so high $250 and more one way so first I checked Bing and then Sidestep and last Southwest and what did I find? Southwest with 2 flights the day we needed $120 before tax ect. (plus I had the $25 gift card from mycokesreward). It did drive me crazy waiting but in the end I got a very cheap round trip. (The reason I waited was I have never paid more than $250 round trip Sacramento to Orlando and we've made 8 trips in 5 years.) It is taking a chance to wait but Southwest hasn't let me down yet. Also the dings never offered me the lowest price, everyday I just put in the dates and kept my fingers crossed.

I'm waiting too. We fly Allegiant and I am checking their web site every day. I need it to be $79 one way otherwise the trip is off. Seriously... if I can't get the low airfare by Oct. 20 (my payment due date) then I will cancel.

There have been very few dings for Orlando. Were flying 9/30-10/5 from Buffalo. I bought back in April when fares were released. Got nonstops for $59.00 each way. They have not been lower once. I never buy that far ahead but an glad I did this time.

We are going Nov 1st - Nov 7th and live in South Jersey very close to Philly. We couldnt find any reasonable flight prices so we looked at flying out of Baltimore. Its a bit more of a drive BUT for the 4 of us, the tickets were $556 round trip thru Southwest....no extra charge for seat assignment and no charge for baggage. I think we made out very well. Check out Baltimore, you may be surprised by the prices compared to Philly

If I booked a flight on Airtran using the 25.00 discount do I also get another 15.00 discount on a checked bag. I already booked and have a reservation number, is it too late to get a checked bag discount. Never thought about the 25.00 discount on each one way ticket, hmmm maybe I'll have to book another flight?

Is anybody having trouble getting the code sent? I need 6 and have entered valid emails from family and some have not received a reply, not even in spam:confused3 I need 2 more:sad2:

I waited til last Saturday to book our additional party member's flight, got it for $99 ea way from MHT to MCO. Not too shabby. Same as I paid for ours in April.

Okay, thanks to all you wonderful DISers, I got my codes. Now do I book each individual flight? I need four tickets and have eight codes. Where do I go from here. Can I book each way with all four of us at the same time and then do it again for the return flight? Sorry, I am rambling-- its late and I am running out of steam. thanks again to all:confused3
