trying to get the remainder of my Aug vaca days cleared but the boss hasnt decided yet what she's taking. Until she does my (3) 1/2 days stay in limbo. Anyone else w/a boss who hasnt decided what what they're doing?

Going back to doc mid Aug - he may just need to tell me that I have to take a 5day wknd to recupe from surgery

wow, that stinks....we have to pick our vacation in Sept for the following year (once you pick it there is no changes either) and you pick in seniority order so the senior guy picks his 5 weeks...then the next..etc....3 people can take the same week and luckily my seniority makes me number 3 so I get whatever 5 weeks I want. I take 3 in the summer one in june one in july and one in august and then thanksgiving week and christmas week.

We pretty much pick ours on a "first come, first served" basis. If I am the first to want the second week of July, for example, no one else will get it, not even my boss. The only thing that can mess up any plans is if there is a staffing shortage, and even then they will try to work with you (maybe ask you to shave a day of the beginning or end of the vacation, but only if it's not going to mess up airline reservations, etc.).

We pick ours whenever we feel like it. I can tell my boss I'd like to take a day off next week and it's done. For some of the long vacations, I'll tell him a couple weeks ahead, but for short ones (a day or half a day) it's whenever.

Typically after and before Thanksgiving or Christmas we'll have only a couple or 3 people staying at work. The rest all on vacation (that's 18 people out of 21 people)

DH is in the military... we don't always know if he gets leave until the day before he is scheduled to be off!

We have first come, first serve here. However, no vacation is safe from cancellation...if something big happens and you are needed, vacation can be revoked.

I just need one day in September. I have that weekend as a long weekend already and what I want to do will just take one other day.
It has to be approved by my manager and her boss before it's accepted. So far, no news.

Being the 1 who approves vacations-- I try to get them back to people within 1 week. We have a first come policy. Usually though I get the requests about 2-3 weeks ahead of time so there isn't a lot of wiggle room on waiting to approve or deny. This is for 8 employees, being a smaller group it works for us.
