Anyone else using upcoming Disney trip as motivation to lose weight?

Mind if I join in? We are not going back until September 2010 so that is my long term goal. I also hated the way I looked in my pictures when we got back after this past trip.

I would like to lose at least 60 pounds but each year it gets harder and harder. I do the low carb thing and do so well and then we go off and I gain it all back.

We just bought a treadmill last week so I am walking on it for an hour every night. My husband is going to enlarge some of our trip photos of the castle and stuff and hang them on the wall as motivation as I am walking. We also put a tv with a DVD player in there and all I watch on it is my Disney Parks DVD's. I want to look completely different when we go back.

I just found this thread & I'm trying to lose 20lbs by our trip Aug 31st. I've lost 11.5. 8.5 more to go. I've just got to keep my motivation up.

To mabenoab: I've found if you eat more on one day & less on another & do the same with exercise, kick your butt one day & take it easier the next, you tend to get off the plateau. Assuming of course you are having a physical plateau & not a motivation plateau (like I'm currently experiencing:mad: )

Thanks for the input, esterhead! I think you're absolutely right...when I have a day when I have a little (note: little) something I don't usually, I do notice a break. Someone else had mentioned that eating too little can actually impede weight loss...though I have to admit finding that hard to believe! :goodvibes

Some things I found helpful when my motivation started to wane: have someone take a candid photo of you...this works for me every time! or post a picture of a bathing suit on the fridge...or take an outfit that no longer fits out of the back of the closet, and hang it on the door so you have to look at it. Good luck to you all...just keep at it, and the weight will ***e off!!

Oh my goodness, someone sure better not take a photo of me! Just the thought of seeing me right now in a photo may just give me the motivation I need. Yikes!:thumbsup2

I started WW online in April and lost 24 lbs before my trip (and managed to lose another 1.5 in Disney!!)

I didn't want to be tired walking around with all the extra weight I gained after surgery last November...Now I am using my cruise next July as motivation for the other 30lbs I want to drop!

I started my diet (calories) about 5 1/2 weeks ago. I'm happy to report that I lost 15 lbs! I wanted to lose 10, and then have 5 as a cushion for DDP. Now I can eat my way through Disney!

Of course I may have to go back to eating out of a box (Lean Cuisine) when we go home but it will be soooooo worth it!

Okay, I want to join you guys! Our trip is in September and I want to lose 25 lbs. before I go. I've been going to the gym 3 times per week doing cardio and weights each time but I haven't changed my eating habits so I've only really maintained being a size 10. I just ordered Nutrisystems but it wont get here until next week. My question is, if I do lose a fair amount of weight before we go, will I gain a fair amount back doing the DDP while we're there? We'll be there 10 days.

Mrs Grumpy: I love your idea of putting up WDW photos by the treadmill...thats motivating! And not only will you lose weight, but you'll also be building your walking endurance for your next trip! :woohoo:

DisneyMomx7...Way to go!! 15lbs down...You are doing so great! LOL!! about your -5 buffer so you can eat your way through Disney...that is too funny, but enjoy every bite!

luvmyhusband (love your screenname!): That is exactly why we didn't opt for the DDP, I knew if I had the meals coming to me, I wouldn't miss even one appetizer or one desert. Good luck to you!

You all are so motivating and inspiring! We leave in 6 days for our trip, and even though I didn't exactly meet my weight goal, the new diet combined with my workouts have made me a much smaller woman! I'm fitting in clothes I haven't worn in 2 years, and I know I'll be able to keep up with my kids next week. These boards, and the Journal boards in the Community forums have been so inspiring and supportive. Good luck to all!!

I actually came back about 3 pounds lighter and we were on the dining plan. All the walking and the heat kept the weight off I think.

The last time I went through a weight loss challenge with myself was for our Disney cruise January 2006. Now I am discovered sparkpeople.com which has turned out to be a Godsend for me. I am losing weight safely and I discovered our local swimming pool for water jogging. Only 7 lbs. to go.

Just posting! Im back from Las Vegas we had a blast! It was great to feel comfortable in a bikini!! and i bought this great mini skirt dress in BEBE that I loved but since I have been back I have gained 5 pounds!!! Im miserable right now but Im posting here to get my act straight. I mean I knew I was going to gain weight because I have been drinking and eating bad because of our trip and one to many 4th of JUly parties!!! 4th of July on a wed only meant a 4th of July party the sat before (30th) another one on the actual 4th and another one on the 7th!!! :confused3 Everyone was having bbq's and I think I stuffed and I know I drank my face off at each one :lmao:

Anyway time to get back on track so Im posting here! I actually just book my next trip to disney (May 14 2008) so I have that to motivate me along with a Trip to Aruba in October and my friend's wedding in nov.

Congratulations to everyone that is keeping it up and losing the weight!!! Im so happy for you all!:cloud9: No one has posted in awhile..Hoping you are all keeping up with the good habits...I think I need to post more often look what happened when I didnt!!!!!!!!!

Before I got on the dis site. I was so excited The Firm just releases new workout dvds with mini hand weights..so i ordered that hopefully they will arrive soon and motivate me!!!

I am so glad I found this Thread!!! me and DGF are goin to the World in Sept 2008 but we have started now to lose weight and to get in shape. we are both overweight by atleast 80 pounds each. :scared1: :scared1...we have both battled with this most of our adult lives. We have started eating better, she is doing the low carb thing, but I do Lean Cusine. we started walking in the evenings....but we have slacked off for a week, so we need to start back. We are moving next month to a better apt complex. :cool1: :cool1: that has a work-out room :goodvibes already my tighter close fit fine now I have not really weighed myself..I do want to get an IPOD for my walks because I get bored. So wish us luck!!

Good Luck!! Take it Slow!!! and be consistent!!! that is usually what works for me

We are LMO429....I know myself..i and dont expect anything great over night...it didnt take one week to get this way and it wont take one week to take it away

Help! You guys have been so motivating to me, I've lost and kept off 10 lbs so far this summer. Our trip is the last week of August,, how do I get my boyfriend to start walking or working out with me until then?
He is not the kind that goes out of his way to exercise usually, and I just know that all the walking at Disney is going to kill him,,,plus if he did lose a little weight I know he'd feel so good about himself.

Thanks! And keep up the good work! :grouphug:

Hmmm...You cant force someone to want to make healthy decisions...they have to want to do it for themselves...just invite him everytime you go but dont force him to do anything or he will rebel.

What sports does he like? Maybe if he likes baseball you could co outside and have a catch...Or ride your bikes together that may be more appealing to your boyfriend than just walking.

Fab thread!
I'm now at my WW 'goal weight' and going to WDW in a week's time...the trick will be not to put any back on!!! I think I might buy some scales from Walmart to keep track - lol!! When we went to Orlando 2 years ago I found it quite hard to eat the amount of fruit/veg that I do at home...and with a carb mad DH and fussy DS it wasn't easy! BUT I'm determined to stay the same!!! Tips on healthy places to eat would be appreciated!!:coffee:

Thank you so much for the advice! I definately don't want him to even think that I'm forcing him. It has to be his decision. We enjoy a lot of the same things like baseball and swimming, which would be great active activities to do together. :goodvibes

I've lost about 36 pounds since January and want to lose at least 25 more, buy the scale is kind of stuck. Don't think it's going to happen, but I'm happy with the progress I made so far.

Going the Disney was really a good motivator because I didn't want any fat pictures either. I'll have to go every year now!
