Anyone else upset with new posting rules?

I'm sad at the changes because that is where I started my DVC journey. My 1st trip I posted in the R/T board looking for a member to rent from and had a fantastic experience. After that trip we purchased 200 points and we usually use all of them easily. One year our plans changed and I posted that I had points to rent and easily rented them within a few days to another member here. A smooth transaction as a renter and as an owner. I've been here awhile but I'm sure I NEVER post 50 times in a 6 month period. I guess if I need/want to rent my points in the future I'll have to use another site to do so. I liked the community here that's why I chose to use this site.

Oh well. I have all my points allocated for trips we're taking so I probably won't need it anytime soon so I'll figure it out when we do.

We have only used the rent trade points twice in the 12 years we have owned, but I always considered it a nice benefit of this site. Now that the new rules have killed the rent trade board the site seems less valuable somehow.

Even if people wanted to keep their thread post counts up to use it doesn't that seem like it would lead to a lot of trivial meaningless posts going out by people just trying to qualify for the privalege of using the rent trade board?

Either relax the rules a bit, or get rid of it entirely.

The R/T board has basically been nueterd by these new rules. Whether this consequence was intentional or not, it has happened. Although I think these newest rules went overboard, I always agreed some rules were needed to keep the board from being an unrestricted free for all. But now I am starting to realize that the R/T board really isn't sustainable if they try try and force people to be "contributing members", especially at the level they are asking. I think DIS is going to have to decide if they even want the R/T board, because I don't think its going to work this way. Having less potential rentees/customers visiting the site because there are so few rental posting available helps nobody on DIS, including the sponsers.

I am a newer member and have not rented out my points, not sure I ever will but 1 thing I did notice on the rent trade board is A LOT of responses for the rent ads were from people with under 10 posts themselves which does not make me feel very confident renting to them, quite a few with 1 or 2 posts. Anyone else feel this way?

Posts may be on any of the many DIS boards, with the following exceptions:

Smilie only posts, posts like "Thanks for The Info", "Great Idea" etc, and other posts that do not contribute to the subject of the threads. Posts to the Availability board will not count, because those posts are deleted by the system when they are tallied.

Also posts on the "test" board like "testing" or Posting to get to 10 (for PMing) and other posts specifically to boost post count will not count towards the requirement.

Phorsenuf has 486 non-Rent/Trade posts over the last 6 months, yes, that meet the Rent/Trade requirement.

Other than sending a PM to a moderator, how do users find their post count "over the last 6 months" ?

Use the DIS board search feature. Enter your user name, and search for all posts within the last 6 months. Be sure to subtract any posts that are made to the Rent/Trade board. Also review the posting dates to make sure they are spread fairly evenly over the previous 6 months.

In response to comments and suggestions about the Rent/Trade policy, another option is now available.

For those who have not been able to actively participate by posting on the DIS over the past 6 months, we have another option allowing purchase of the ability to have a thread post on the DVC Rent/Trade Board. Details may be found at http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-vacation-club/dvcforumplan.htm .

Existing DISboard members already registered for at least 6 months may purchase the ability to submit threads. Those registered less than 6 months are also able purchase the same ability. A special logo will be added in your board profile identifying you as having purchased this option.

so now I am going to pay $24.95 to rent points from someone on DIS????

When I can just go to another board and rent them for free??

Huh? I dont get it:happytv:

Correct me if I'm wrong, Doc, but I think it's only for if you're posting points to rent. Not if you're looking to rent somebody else's points. It's only to initiate the thread for Points for Rent.

I think this is great Doc! I was getting worried that the R/T Board was going to go the way of the dinosaur soon because of the lack of available points.

I'm glad you've kept it free for the contributing members, but also cover your costs from the ones who don't. Best of both worlds! What's better is it's a very reasonable price. Thanks DIS!

Nope - as aggiemullins correctly explained, this only applies to those wanting to offer to rent their points to others and who haven't posted enough in the last 6 months to qualify. It just provides another option to those DVC members.

Posters who are looking to rent from a DVC Member can still simply respond to a "Points for Rent" or "Reservation for Rent" post just like they have always been able to do.

For those willing to actively participate on DIS with an average of 2 posts per week spread over the last 6 months, there is still no cost to have a thread validated on the board. This just gives another ooption to those unable to meet that requirement.

Also, for those who didn't take the time to read Doc's link, the fees ($24.95, $49.95, and $199.95) are ANNUAL fees -- not fees per transaction.

Doc, I presume the purchase of one of these options does NOT carry with it any kind of recommendation of that poster by the DIS, nor any kind of assurances from the DIS...right?

In other words, all rental transactions would continue to be strictly between the two parties -- owner and renter.

Correct, Jim. I would also strongly suggest that potential renters exercise due diligence when dealing with any rental and especially anyone with minimal participation on the DIS.

This option is not an endorsement of any poster by the DIS, it simply provides an option for those unable to meet the posting requirement.

We are going to close this thread, and allow comments here.

Thanks.
