What are they kidding??? A gift card that can not be used on food?? They better re-think their marketing.... the economy is still in the toilet

Until the offer comes out on Monday we really don't know for sure if it can be used for food or not. Some cm's aren't giving out any information and some are saying it isn't available for food but we all know that not all cm's know what is going on.

The other option is to use the gift card, if not applicable towards food, for payment towards a future Disney vacation.

When they offered a similar deal this year, I don't think it could be used on food either. Obviously it worked for them, or they wouldn't be doing it again.

We had the option of booking with a Gift Card and we opted not to, but now I can see how it would have been beneficial, because I don't think it expired which means we could have used it during future trips. I don't remember the actual terms though, because we didn't end up getting one. We booked an AP passholders package instead.

I suppose it's better than no deal. However, if I were going to stay in a Disney resort I'd prefer the extra money off instead of a gift card to be used for food or merchandise. There's only so many stuffed animals one can purchase.

We got the giftcard with the b4g3 in March of this year and we could use it anywhere. We paid a few tips at TS places with it :thumbsup2.

And I agree with the pp about waiting to see what the official anouncement is. Until it is officially announced, comparing prices and guessing what does or doesn't count doesn't do much good and makes a lot of people cranky. I'm not too worried about it since my TA is all over it and will let me know that night if the new offer did me any good or not. I told her to email me and say GIFTCARD if we got it or not ;). Even if it can only be used for merchandise, that means I can use it for gifts for my kids for Christmas NEXT year :lmao:.

I hope everyone who can use the code enjoys it!

It's better than nothing at all. Man, I am the ultimate cheapskate and even I am happy with this new deal even if it IS only for merchandise.

When I booked the 4/3 deal earlier this year, as a part of the deal it came with a $200 gift card. The card was able to be used towards any room charges (we only spent about $50 on souvenirs on that trip, the rest was food, Pirate Adventure, and Neverland Club). I would bet that it will be like the deal was this year. We will find out when the official offer is announced though. :thumbsup2

It's better than no discount at all. It doesn't really help with our travel dates, but luckily we got the 20/30/40 PIN and I was able to apply that to my ressie. I sure many people will benefit from the new discount.

Maybe the giftcard can be used towards food. We just have to wait for the details to be release tomorrow :surfweb:

It doesn't do anything for me. I have 3 nights at Pop with the AP 40% off, then move to my DVC resort for 6 nights.

It's not the best deal they have ever had. Most people will stay Mod or Value and the savings isn't that great. 35% room discount or free dining is way better. But if your travel dates are in that time frame that may be your only discount unless you get a PIN. Guess we have to take what we can get.

There was some confusion on a few previous promotions.
There was a gift card promotion, where the card could be used most anywhere.
And there was also a merchandise card promotion, where the money specifically had to be for merchandise.
Usually when it's a gift card, it can be used like any gift card purchased at the counter and used most anywhere.

True but if you don't buy merchandise anymore its a horrible deal. We spent at grand total of $8 on souvieniers last trip b/c DH HAD to have the Buzz Lightyear badge when he maxed his score out. Once you have been multiple times, see the same standard stuff everywhere and discover charector premiere outlets, your spending inside the parks really decline.

But from what I've read on the promotion this one can be used for food. :confused3

At the time I made that post, we didn't know if it would be good for food or not. Now that we know it can, it instantly became a better deal.

Actually, for those staying mod, in reg season the 35% discount on a standard view room would only be about $300. Even less (around $260 I think) during value season. So, the GC is better by $200+ there. Dining for 2 adults and 1 child for 5 days (on the reg plan) is $475. For 2 adults and 2 children, it is $530. So, the GC is comparable.

The can be said for value with a 30% discount. That discount during the value season should be around $123, whereas the GC is $300. Free dining evens out with the GC for 1 adults and 1 or 2 kids in a value, but free dining is a much better deal if you have more than 1 adult.

We only have the 20-30-40 code, so these deals become even better for us.

I currently have a 5+2 at POP. To change to get the gift card would mean paying more out front but when we got there and got the card it would mean paying $92 less. Now there is a change fee of $50 so I would only be ahead $42. I don't think it is worth the aggravation. Last Jan. we got 4+3 + $200 gift card, which was a much sweeter deal.

We switched our ressie at Pop yesterday. We are within the 45 days and already paid. By switching to this deal we pay more up front than our 30% off room reservation, so they waived then change fee. They do not figure in the gift card into the package total. So although we pay less overall, because of the $300 gift card, we paid more upfront so we were not charged the change fee.

It looks like you are going in Jan/Feb. You might want to check your numbers to see if a split reservation would be better. We saved more by booking a 5 day package with gc and then a 2 day room only reservation using the 30% general public room code. We can use the tickets from the package for the whole week. Our overall plan is exactly the same, only no ddp for last 2 days which works out better for us - cheaper for us to pay oop for the last 2 days. We will use the gift card for 2nd night of room only ressie, oop food for last 2 days, and ddp tips. :cool1:

Has anyone recieved a pin code email since Monday, Dec 21, when they introduced that new offer? We are going in Aug with the deluxe meal plan so it really doesn't work at all for us. Heres hoping for more pin codes to be sent.:confused3
