Anyone else think this is weird (and I know I'm probably being a fuddy duddy)

So I was reading another disney email from allears and noted the grad school nights at MK. I saw one of the "stars" from MTV's "Jersey Shore" was going to be the celebrity guest DJ. I know I sound old, but I guess I was surprised Disney would have someone like that at their event.

Okay, someone can play the old timey music now. :rotfl2:

The music they play at those things isn't my style (and it isn't supposed to be), but the "celeb" DJ certainly is popular and recognizable among the people who'd be at that event. So it makes sense.

Well from one Fuddy duddy to the next. I understand where you are coming from but they need to bring in the crowd and the $$$$ so they just don't think the same way we do.

They look at their target audience, and make decisions based on that. So, while I may not "get it", that doesn't matter - I'm not who it's intended for.

And who would you suggest for older teens? Dora? Hannah Montana?

Disney has to look at their audience and she is there as a celebrity not a teacher or being held up as someone to become. It is a party and most actors, musicians since the start of entertainment are not the best role models but they are entertaining.

DJ Pauly D had this career before becoming famous on Jersey Shore, unlike most of the others who are floating on their 15 minutes of fame and like The Situation - making the most of it (I read what he made last year in endorsements, appearances, ads, etc - I couldn't believe it).

LOL and for many, that's why they're so entertaining - they're not great role models :)

You mean the same Disney, that brought us none other than the bong-smoking Miley Cyrus and currently in rehab Demi Lovato? Clearly they don't care. :sad2:

I'm with you OP. They don't have to go to the bottom of the barrel to keep older teens happy. I wonder how long it will be before they have Lil Wayne, Lil Kim and Nicki Manaj parading arounding the parks. I l enjoy hip hop, but it's not what I expect at disney

I understand, but I have a feeling Disney didn't know these things about these two when they hired them. OTOH, they know exactly what they are getting with this guy!

Clearly my foot.

Have you been to see Lights, Motors, Action! recently? In case you haven't, they have removed the Lindsey Lohan reference from the Herbie skit. So, IMO, Disney IS taking stock of the situation....slowly perhaps.

I'm not sure the entertainers are even that important. My son is really into music but doesn't embrace a lot of pop groups. The headliner when he went to grad night was a band he had no interest in, but he still had a ball at the event. Ironically, he rode Expedition Everest on the same train as the band and was on MTV!

I'm totally with you, OP. I cringe every time I hear people like the Kardashians and the Jersey Shore "cast" referred to as "stars". It really just doesn't take much to become a star these days...:confused3 :sad2:

OP, if you're a fuddy duddy then so am I! I cannot stand that show! I've seen parts of a few episodes and they're ridiculous. I'm only a couple of years older than "Snookie" and I think omg look at the crap that preoccupies her life! I sure wish I had her money, though. But that show is so popular around here with high schoolers and even with some of the 20somethings I know. I know Disney wants the popular celebrities, but shame on Disney for choosing this bunch who have nothing to offer except for being drunks and raunch-seekers.
