Anyone else think the 2021 resort prices are outrageous?

Because renting points isn't a Disney transaction, and very possibly point renters didn't completely read the rental T&C and chose not to get trip insurance.
Plus a pandemic wasn’t part of the fine print. This is new to everyone so we all needed to be patient. I’m sure if this happens again, companies will be able to reimburse much quicker. We had a cruise booked for this July on carnival and it took a month to get our money back which wasn’t bad considering.

This is why we rent DVC points for our stays. This upcoming trip we have 8 nights at AKL and are paying an average of $240/nt (taxes included). But I realize that renting points is not for everyone, but it does deliver for us the most bang for your buck for lodging anyways.

Yes. We did this last year and stayed at Polynesian. Think it was about $330 per night. Unbelievable. We were trying to go really cheap and stay for half that at an all stars resort this time around but can’t find anything under 200 so if a vaccine comes out within the the 10 months, we are going to rent dvc points and stay next fall

We have rented DVC points several times and had great experiences. We last had them rented for March, and for a while we were not sure if we were going to get our money back. We went with a safer Disney package for our November trip. I'm looking forward to renting points again when everything is more stable. Less expensive rooms and no parking fees is awesome!

They're insane- we have a trip planned for the end of August but might change it to May 2021 if the cases don't go down.... at my BF's request lol. My consolation prize if this happens is he'll pay for us to stay at the Riviera 😆 . I was looking at the prices though and it's like 600 a night for those dates! I originally booked using the sun and fun discount for Port Orleans riverside and was then moved to CBR- does anyone know if they would they give me the same discount if I rescheduled over the phone?

We were able to get the Caribbean the week after marathon weekend for 200-250 per night. I did not think that was too bad since Caribbean is a newer hotel.

Not for changing dates. Enjoy Riviera. ;)

The reality is that most Disney guests book vacations much closer in time to their trip than the kinds of people who post here (since even using these boards is much more pre-planning than most guests do). It makes no sense for Disney to start offering discounts until a few months out, when more people have started making their vacation plans and Disney has a better sense of which resorts/room categories are not booking well and need to be discounted. This year is weird because more people are rebooking to 2021, but Disney still has a lot of uncertainty as to how many of those people will actually show up if a vaccine isn't ready in time and Disney still has restrictions (masks, no fireworks/characters etc.) in place. I would expect discounts for 2021 won't be realized until much later this year.

I would place very very good odds on Riviera being discounted considerably for 2021. DVC sales have been sluggish due to resale restrictions and tepid reviews, and so there is still a lot of cash inventory, and the discounts offered on it earlier this year were pretty good (40% off for Visa cardholders; 25% off with Fun & Sun). I actually was tempted to use my 35% from my free dining cancellation to book at riviera this August, but chose to go to the Poly, because I figured discounts next year would be better at Riviera than Poly and I could wait to try Riviera then.

Hmmmmmm okay good to know.... do you have any idea when this might happen? I wanna reschedule asap when/if we decide to move our trip, so I'm wondering if we booked it and then the prices went down later that they would then apply that discount to our stay?

You would be able to modify later to apply the discount, if it is applicable to your resort and room category; otherwise you might need to change room types/resorts to take advantage of a discount. It would not be applied automatically--you have to call and ask for it.

I booked Pop at $185/night for August 2021, which doesn't seem outrageous to me, but that's definitely a value rate. There's no way I'd pay what they're charging for Pop or any other resort during peak dates. Prices are sky high, and we just don't spend enough time at the resort to justify moderate pricing at a value, or $300+/night at a moderate.

Well, just my opinion but watching the new rules for opening (not debating whether in differetn places they're right or not) I see a clear trend toward onsite stays being the best/only option right now. All third party ticket purchase and offsite hotels right now seem pretty much pointless for a true parks visit.
On the contrary, Disney has incentivized local offsite stays, as well. Several non-Disney hotels within the gates get Disney resort-level reservation privileges. I'm staying at one right now. And with the new Magical Express baggage restrictions & other Covid-related limitations to transportation on property, there is extra incentive to stay offsite, since WDW transport isn't what it used to be. And the Disney resort parking fees have the same effect.

Is this the new norm? I can’t see paying almost $300 for a value. Will these prices go down?

I can't decide if I am just old, or if it is just how much things have increased in cost. But in the mid 90's when we became Disney nerds.......Moderates were $90 a night and Wilderness Lodge was $175 a night. Deluxes like Yacht and Beach could be had for $250

Like many have said.....should have bought DVC a long time ago.
