Well, we were all excited yesterday doing the 7 more sleeps happy dance and then I had to go and check the weather channel. Not one, but two possible tropical storms/hurricanes heading to Florida by Saturday when we're flying out of Buffalo:scared1: Now we're playing the waiting game and making back-up plans - if Southwest posts a weather warning by mid-week, we'll try and get a flight sooner to get there and ride it out rather than lose precious vacation days waiting in an airport. If we can't get an earlier flight, we'll take a credit (or refund if it's a weather delay) and just drive down and try and beat the weather there. Guess I better pack and be prepared sooner! Anyone else keeping a weathered eye on the horizon??????

Looks like Ana is pulling to the WNW passing south of Orlando and Bill passing north pulling to the NW.

Take a look here.

We're cruising on the Disney Wonder on Thursday (we fly down Wednesday morning). Needless to say, I'll be packing rain gear and gravol! :lmao: They seem to think that Ana will dissipate as it crosses Hispanola. As for Bill, they are now suggesting that it has the potential to cause some trouble for the Canadian Maritimes....GREAT! That's what I get for worrying about it so early on - here I was thinking that the trip might be affected, and now it might nail us at home instead!! Fingers crossed that they both stay far, far away!!:thumbsup2

We'll be arriving at WDW on Thursday morning.

We are leaving next Monday! Yaaaaaay!
Not too worried about the weather. We have gone for the past two years in August and there are always tropical storm/hurricanes warnings.
As for cruising, they don't sail the ships in to the storm, they will make adjustments and sail around it.
Nothing will keep me away from Disney!

I refuse to get addicted to the hurricane watch website. Which is not to say I don't want to know, but I don't want to know :rotfl2:

I am watching because I was hoping to get a few extra days out of our vacation (a la stranded because of a snow storm - summer version!). :rotfl: Come on Bill...turn my 3 day into a 7 day! :woohoo::lmao:...without causing any damage, of course!

That's a good way to look at it :rotfl2: So, where is "Canada's ocean playground"? :confused3

A few years ago we were in Disney for Hurricane Jeannie. We flew down the day before it hit and after we landed we went to grocery store to pick up some water and a bit of food as we knew we'd be restricted to our rooms if the storm did hit us. We then headed to the Nickelodeon hotel for the night and the storm began overnight. When we woke up, the winds were howling and heavy rain. We watched TV all day and never lost power. The city was under curfew until 5pm that day. We were scheduled to check into Beach Club, so at 5pm the storm had passed and there was cleanup going on, so we scooted over to Beach Club to check in. The park I believe was closed for that day, but open the next. So as long as you can get down to Orlando, don't worry about what will happen. Disney will do everything to keep you safe, and since Orlando so far inland, the brunt of the storm will be minimal versus when it hits right off the ocean. It was actually quite an interesting experience for us and the kids can say they survived a Level 1 Hurricane!

Nova Scotia - which may be "Bill's Ocean Playground" by next weekend/the week after!:laughing: Still WAY too far away to even think about getting worried about that potential scenario, but I am enjoying the possible irony of it all - follow it for how it will affect our vacation, and then have it follow us home. Go figure!

We always travel during hurricane season. Last summer our flight was delayed to Myrtle Beach by 3 hours because of one. We've gone to Miami while a hurricane was supposed to hit. It ended up turning & hit the lower keys, we got some bad weather, but that was it. I'm not downplaying the devastation they can cause, but you're inland, just be prepared in case your flight is delayed or you have to spend some indoor time while on your holiday.

Try not to stress. It's going to happen. When was the last time there were no hurricanes during hurricane season?

Pack your ponchos & be prepared for some rain. They usually don't last long.

I had to laugh when I read this - I think our friends were there at the same time. Where we live, there are strong winds (max thus far clocked at 214 km/hr) that come down off of the mountains into our area. Winds that clock from 119-153 km/hr are obviously not that big of a deal for us - that would be a regular thing whenever the winds pick up. The friend took his son (age 9-10) outside during the hurricane and told him that they were in the middle of a hurricane. The son's response? A very unimpressed "oh yeah - huh". :lmao: Now the poor kid probably thinks that hurricanes are absolutely nothing to get worked up about...ever!:rotfl2: I hope they eventually explained to him the concept of the categorization of hurricanes, and that a 5 might be a "tad" worse than a 1 (even for us!!:)).
:goodvibes

Now that would be a dedicated hurricane - to get it at WDW then have it follow you home :rotfl2: I'm sure it won't happen :thumbsup2

The Maritimes are on our bucket list of places to see - the region looks gorgeous in everything I've seen :goodvibes So, you're in the Atlantic ocean playground and we're in the Pacific ocean playground - seems to me we should both have some palm trees, darnit :rotfl2:

Um...guess I should go pick up our ponchos today.

I can't believe that those were the first two storms named of 09. Looks like it's going to be a quiet year for tropical storms/hurricanes!! Sweet!!! :cool1:
