It's a rare occasion here, but schools are closed due to snow! There's about 1/2 and inch on my road. :rotfl: It'll all be gone by noon or so.

Oh well, a three-day weekend for me! :hyper:

School was cancelled here for 1 inch. My husband said the back roads were pretty slippery.

The schools around here are closed, but we homeschool so we are going on with school today and will take the day when the weather is nicer.

It is still snowing some but they are calling it to stop before too long. Our road looks wet but the driveway has some snow on it. I'll hear from DH afterwhile how it all is.

Yes, Hi TammyNC, I'm in Burlington as well. My son has been out sledding & snowboarding in some back yards, but my very creative 4 y/o dd came downstairs in her swimsuit and asked me to fill the big tub with warm water so she could swim. Me I've begged my DH to let me plan our next trip to WDW. He said "Sure, for 2 years from now":( Hmmm, I'll have to work on that.

There were some schools with delays...rumor is they couldn't get the busses started (because of the cold) but we havent had snow since monday. And the three inches we got was snowday material. Has to be more like 6-7 inches here. We did have a closure not long before x-mas for just an inch or 2 of snow, but that was because the accidents an ice of the week before were still fresh in everyone's mind.

Schools have been closed since Tuesday here in Portland, OR due to heavy snow and ice. Well, heavy for this area of the country. several inches of snow and then two nights where we had freezing rain, so then there was an inch or so of ice on top of the snow. Scary stuff. It's all thawing out now---I'm going STIR crazy in the house! DH keeps taking my trusty Subaru to work, so I'm stuck here. The news just showed the roof collapsing on one of the popular chain stores here (Fred Meyer- do they have these elsewhere---it's one of those grocery/clothes/hardware/home/everything under the sun type of stores. The roof had so much ice and snow on it, it collapsed. Luckily they had evacuted the store a few hours beforehand. And the airport finally opened up today too! I think it's been closed for 2 1/2 days. Ugh! Us West-Coasters are NOT used to this kind of a thing! :earseek:

Alice Hello from another stir crazy Oregonian!! We live about 45 minutes from Portland out Hwy 30..and I work at a travel agency on 185th in Tansabourne. If your ever out my way stop in (were in the ONLY travel agency out there) and we can have a "mini" meet that the others are always talking about!!
This storm has had HUGE financial impacts on us here in Oregon. I myself havent been able to work at all this week. Thats 40 hours of lost income! (plus I had alreday been off for the Christmas break because we were slow at work)
The kids have had an extended Christmas break as well. They were out all week with "snow days". To add insult to injury they could only play out in it for the first couple of days last week becuase the ice came in and made it WAY to dangerous to play. So we have a foot of snow and an inch of ice! A couple days ago a friend with a big SUV and heavy duty snow chains came and got us and brought us up to there house for dinner. Other than that I am housebound and going nuts!! BUT I AM caught up on All My Children now!! Heres hoping for a thaw!!!

I'm a few hours east of you in the Tri-Cities. We have been home since Wednesday (were delayed on Tuesday and should have been on Monday) It sounds absolutely awful in Portland and I hope you thaw out soon. We have about a foot and a half or so of snow on the ground and a bit of ice this morning with still some freezing rain predicted for the weekend. Depending on when we make up the third of our snow day (two already planed in the school calendar), it could mess up of Disney Vacation! Oh well, better safe than sorry.

Yes school was closed in Chattanooga. The mountains had all the snow and ice. The valley got nothing.

It IS a small world after all! I used to live in Portland and The Dalles, Oregon way back in the late 1970's ( I was just a kid). Thinking about it makes me miss Burgerville USA and Taco Time.

:wave2: Hi my fellow Great NorthWesterners! Good to know there are more of us on these boards!

Mmmmm....Burgerville......(in my best Homer Simpson voice)....my DH ventured out the other night and only Round Table was open...I had requested Burgerville first! Their Walla Walla onion rings in the summer are to DIE for...

Still going stir crazy...luckily this storm has only financially impacted our family about $50----could have been worse. I don't work outside the home and DH works for Portland Public Schools and he gets paid for snow days. Plus he went in yesterday and today anyway (he works in the District Office). I watch a friend's baby a few days a week, so I missed a couple of days, and that's the $50. Oh well. I know other's are impacted quite negatively by this weather and I feel for ya! I hope that everything continues to thaw this weekend and things will be back to their normal selves by Monday.

If I ever need a travel agent I will look ya up bubbleprincess!
