Anyone else out there NOT going to watch the Olympics?

I know this seems unpatriotic, and I am truly glad that every 4 years all the nations of the world get together for this great event.....But.....I just don't ever have any interest in watching it..I don't know why, I just don't.

Am I the only one like this??

Eh, I'll probably catch bits and pieces of some of the events (swimming, basketball, maybe track and field), but it's certainly not something I'll watch a lot of. The Olympics, in general, don't interest me much.

nope i dis like olympic coverage as well. and its every 2 years now not 4, i really dont want to watch some chick jump into a pool, or some guy swim in circles. i really dont like watching a skier or weven better the bobsledding events

I am a human interest story junkie, which is one reason I come to Disboards, so if I can catch the build up story before the race, I get very invested!

Oh, I love the Olympics - it's the only sports I ever watch.

However, I'm so disappointed that they (the networks) feel that we all want to watch basketball (dream team? No thanks - don't we get enough of those guys during the bball season?) or multiple heats of track and field. I'd much rather watch the more obscure sports that we don't ever get to see. IMO, those are the true athletes - the people that work just as hard at their sport but get very little recognition. I just like all the "behind the scenes" stuff and the inspirational stories.

No , I don't watch either, I find them rather (shhhh...) boring. I like to watch at the end of the day or beginning just to see who has won the most metals, but that's it for me. I'd much rather be DISing. In fact, I don't even have to watch the news anymore, I find out all I need to know right here on the DIS. That's right - the DIS is my news source. (is that good or bad?)

I usually get excited about watching the olympics, but I've seen very little advertising for this one. I'd like to watch some of each event, but I won't be glued to the screen.

I might watch snippets, but for the most part I find out what I need or want to know from the Internet or the news.

It bothers me that the US always *has* to win. It's like our world will fall apart if we get silver or bronze. I do watch some parts of it, if I happen to catch it on TV and there's nothing else on. I kind of like figure skating and the curling thing was interesting to watch for a few minutes. I can't really think of any summer sports that I like watching. And I could care less who wins.

I'll watch when I can but it's nothing like the Olympics of the 60's and 70's where we all stayed glued to the TV for the nightly coverage.
Sad but true, as my DS and DD (16yo and 14yo) were watching the trials the last few weeks, they just wondered who would or who wouldn't be caught doping!
I like the human-interest stories that the coverage brings out--there are some incredible athletes in our world. But even if someone wins gold, you have to be cynical in that they may get it stripped once their drug test results comes back.

And a personal opinion: I wish Marion Jones would shut up about how she's being victimized! Me thinks she doth protest too much!!

I won't be watching!! To me the summer ones are BORING!! I like the skiing in the winter one but I really only watch a few minutes. I don't really care about them one way or the other...though I DO care when they pre-empt my favorite shows!!

Never had any real interest in sports, so I have never paid them more than a passing glance (at least not since I was a child and watched Nadia Comenic (sp?) and Olga Korbit)............P

Actually I love the actual Olympic sporting event.......I don't like all the "stories".
