Anyone else noticing a change in the way teens are dressing lately?

Actually, IZOD doesn't cost as much as LaCoste. Back in the 80s (& before) it was all the same but I believe they split and an alligator shirt now (which is the LaCoste) si the expensive brand compared to IZOD.
You beat me to it---I was going to say the same thing. Izod and LaCoste are no longer one and the same and LaCoste's prices are outrageous!

Just a few days ago my DS16 asked to get his haircut. I literally fell out of the chair. It took me all of 15 seconds to put my flip flops on and off we went before he changed his mind. On the drive to the barbershop, I started to think about how and why he wanted a haircut. I had myself all worked up for nothing. He chose a stylish clean cut....he cut off the curls that poked out from under this baseball cap...which I loved but it was getting kinda long.

Then he asked to go shopping which he hates with a passion. We went in A&F and of course he found some polos. Then we went into American Eagle, Old Navy and Hollister and he found some more polos and a few lightweight long sleeve dress shirts that he rolls the sleeves up some. DS actually bought a pink polo. DS is dressing "preppy" and it is expensive but I do like the look. Before his "new look" he dressed in shorts, t-shirt and flip flops sporting a baseball cap.

I swear this is not my child!

when I was in my double digits for jeans (I lost about 70 pounds in the last year or so) I did well with the boyfriend bootcut style that Tommy Hilfiger has. Pretty much any other brand made me look muffin like and had major gaps in the back. A lot of the low cut jeans are cut for straight shaped people, so I've been through a lot of brands to see which works for "real shaped women" ;)

Oh and I admit, to help me lose the weight, I got a belly button ring, so I need a lower rise now that doesn't cut into the ring :p That's why they are more comfy for me and why I had to seek them out!

My problem is my hips. I need to lose about 15-20lbs but I'll never be smaller than an 8-10 because of my bones. Stupid bones. I'll try Lucky. Thanks.

I LOVE PINK AND GREEN!

I love the preppy look. I bought some plaid bermudas for my son the other day and he wore them with a polo to school. Some kid teased him about wearing his "boxers" to school. I think my DS was a little self-conscious until he saw this cool-looking kid at the mall wearing some. Now, he thinks he's hot stuff, lol.
Lori P. :)

LOL I bought some for my son too! They are pink and blue plaid IZOD ones. I also bought him a pink polo to match them. He looked adorable. I had him wear them on a day I was at school. I told him only tough boys can wear pink!
He was fine.
I got the shorts on sale at JCP for only $14.00.

We live an hour south of Bir. I know Birmingham would be ahead of our area, but Alabama in general is behind some other areas in catching onto trends. We are from Florida. As an ex. when we go to Fla, we hear songs playing on the radio, that all the kids are listening to, can come back here and noone has heard them yet, and won't hear them here for about 2 months. By the time they are playing on the radio here, they are old news there. And we listen to Birmingham and Montgomery stations because of our central location. We also shop in Birmingham. My cousin in Tampa told me about 1 1/2 years ago that her son was ditching the skater look and "prepping up". It doesn't bother me that my state isn't a trend setter, everything gets here eventually. I have a pug. Just as spoiled as a kid. DOn't ya just love'em.

I've noticed hair getting longer and clothes getting less baggy on the boys. I see some wearing shorts that I would call culottes which I think looks kind of silly but other than that, I think that the styles have improved.

Girls haven't changed much around here that I've noticed. They really do look just like we did at their age.

:rotfl: Had to laugh as I just bought my 12yo DD a pink polo and she was probably no different than your son about wearing it at first! :rotfl: I may have to check out Penney's for some plaid shorts too. She wants a pair and we haven't found them yet.

I can understand that. I'm really short, so for my height I still look like I am "hippy" and probably could never look petite if I tried. Oh well ;)

Good luck with Lucky's. They have many styles to try out. Only downside is they are a wee bit expensive

Me too! I love the long tanks, and camis that are coming in. I love the lace on the bottom of the tanks for the 'sexy' look. It goes to show you can be sexy without showing skin. Now if the rise of the jeans would come up above my thong I'll be a happy camper!
Noooo!
I'm a below petite height adult. And I have loved the shorter shirts and lower rise of pants. The fit "normal" on me. I have noticed in my local stores that "longer" length shirts have taken the place of normal length. I don't want longer length shirts because if they get any longer, they'll be down to my knees! And with "normal" rise in pants, I always end up with loads of fabric bulging out in the front or I have to pull my pants up to my chest. :(
I also hope that the shorter pants don't go out anytime soon. I love not having to hem all my pants! And I don't like longer length shorts either! They "cut" my legs in half! So I look even shorter than I already am. And I don't wear jeans or pants in 90 degree weather!
Belts also tend to cut me in half. So I can't wear them over long shirts.

Also, I hate polos! I always have. Even when the were so fashionable in the 80's. I'm not a prep. :)

It is such a curse to be so short and so curvy. :sad2:

Showed DD some Bass bucks the other day and she was not impressed.

I'd be impressed! I love Bass. If what you are talking about is the card that they stamp when you spend $10 at the store, I just learned on my last trip that this has been terminated. You can still use what money you have accumulated, but they won't give stamps anymore.

I'm not talking about bringing back mom jeans! I would just like to go into a store besides the Gap and buy some jeans that I can wear without muffin topping or showing off my thong. It seems that every other brand of jeans out there has a 1/4 inch rise. That barely covers my um... I don't see why manufacturers can't make a mix of rises.

I had a high school flashback when my niece asked for Vans for her birthday.

I work at an elementary school, and I have noticed that the little girls are really into the super short jean skirts with the footless leggings underneath. I know that style is pretty much out for the middle and high school girls already, but the younger ones are still into it.

I'm just glad they are wearing the leggings underneath because those skirts are SHORT!

I have an almost 17 year old and she is really into the longer camisoles with the lace trim, the longer halter tops and the polo shirts. She still likes the low rise jeans though because they fit her the best. It is so nice to not see everyones stomach hanging out anymore.

If y'all are looking for low-rise jeans that actually offer some coverage in the back, try Ruehl. There aren't a lot of stores, but if there's one near you, their jeans are worth the trip! A lot of their styles are fairly low rise in the front, but tend to rise an inch or so higher in the back, so there are no plumber impersonations with or without a belt.
