Right, but the article itself comes from a different source. I am seeing it getting picked up on several of the Disney blogs.

To be fair DIS has a pretty limited list of websites that are NOT blocked. WDWNT used to be on the blocked list, now it isn't despite having some of the same issues. Basically it's popular, occasionally breaks news, and isn't the worst offender. ITM often goes way overboard.

While not thrill rides, I always loved that little strip of Fantasyland at DW in the 70s and 80s that had Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and Snow White's Scary Adventures - the latter of which would seem to fit into the Villian's Land style - it was family friendly but a little darker and focused on the villain. I was only 3 years old when I first hit MK in 1971 when it opened, and for those early years until I was about 9-10, I loved both rides and did find them a little scary. The train tunnel and devil room on Mr. Toad's, and the witch in Snow White popping up throughout were scary enough to give me a little fear thrill but not enough to scar me or keep me off the rides.

I can't say I'm much of a Villain fan, but wouldn't mind the addition - though I'd be more into the theming than the rides. I'm not a roller coaster fan, so I'd be fine with some mild coasters, boat rides, etc - but with very deep, intense theming everywhere keeping with the mood. And as another poster mentioned, I would hope for it to be immensely popular, to keep more people in that section while I enjoy lighter crowds in the rest of MK.

A rumor kicked off this past weekend about the upcoming Villains Land coming to Magic Kingdom. The rumor comes via TouringPlans‘ Len Testa. In short, Testa says that the initial plans for Villains Land have been “scrapped”, and that Imagineers have been asked to go back to the drawing board for “bigger, bolder ideas”.

The South Florida Water Management District released updated permits for Villains Land yesterday, I think (https://blogmickey.com/2026/02/analysis-villains-land-attraction-buildings-larger-permit-changes/):

• The "E-Ticket" dark ride building is now around 11,000 s.f. (13%) larger than the original permit plans
• The second ride's building is around 10,000 s.f. (18%) larger than the original permits

What I do like about Villains Land is that it will not be based on a single IP - it will be nice to see a mix of things and these Villains being neighbors.

You could liken that to what Universal does to their horror characters. The “Universal Monsters” so to speak.

So this is a BM article but the sourcing is from The Wrap, about the proposed changes, in much greater detail: Emperor's New Groove coaster, but family friendly (intensity much closer to Slinky Dog instead of say... Velocicoaster), Maleficient boat ride, possibly using Pirates Shanghai tech, and then one other smaller ride and a dinner show.

Weird thing is that this doesn't exactly scream "Bigger and Better" to me, it just sounds different. The expectation was already that this would have two high level attractions, one of them being a coaster (rumored around Maleficent but that could just be assumptions based on the concept art). Pirates tech was due to come here eventually. This actually shares some similarities to the initial Galaxy's Edge plans, which also had three rides and a dinner show.

Yep this sounds like a downgrade to me. Not an upgrade. Another short kiddie coaster is not an e ticket level ride.

At the end of the day… most of the audience coming to Disney aren’t looking for Universal-level intensity on attractions…

True, but maybe a ride or two wouldn’t hurt. Guardians of The Galaxy seems to keep a decent wait time.

But plenty are. Magic kingdom needs one more thrill coaster so families with teens can enjoy themselves as well rather then have them whine with boredom. You would think disney would want their main park to appeal to everyone. The dark ride was for those who dont like thrill rides giving everyone something. Plus when disney does thrill rides its not exactly terrifying in any case. Tron, cosmic rewind, everest arent exactly universal scary.

Yeah, I don't think that MK really needs an extreme roller-coaster in it - TRON is about as intense as it needs to be. I don't think Space/Big Thunder are really in the same class as TRON, and I don't mind if the Villains coaster (whatever it turns out to be) is on that level, but I wouldn't want to see a Velocicoaster type of thing. The theming is more important anyway.

I vaguely remember this coming up in the past. I think he wants an attraction on the level of Velocicoaster, so no, that's not enough.

I think they should be shooting for something like Guardians. TRON is about the same, but it's so fast and short you can barely appreciate the theming. Good show is going to be more important than sheer thrills - Guardians offers a good balance of both.
