HW is right about it being Disney policy to help a guest find the answer to their question, even if you (the CM) don't know it. And everyone keeps harping about her reading a map. If the woman couldn't tell her where a restaurant is, do you think she could explain where a map is?
I know that WDW and most hotels around here hire lots of non-English-speaking people for housekeeping. I have no problem with that; I can always pick up the phone and speak to someone else if I need something from them. However, WDW custodial CMs' jobs are about half custodial and half guest interaction. They even advertise it as such if you've ever applied for a job there. Custodial gets more directional questions than any other position. IMO, the onstage ones should speak English.
You know I looked into working at Eurodisney way back when it opened. They required that you pass a French language test before you were hired for any position.
Now I'm forgetting if OP said that this was a custodial person, or perhaps it was just someone walking to/from their workplace. So, i guess if you don't know, then don't assume.
Yes, CMs get abused. And guests can be abused. That's why everyone should remember to give a little benefit of the doubt (to an extent; I just can't forgive people for ruining my day just because someone ruined theirs). CMs should spread the magic; guests shoud spread the magic, just like we should all do in our lives every day. NOW CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG???!!!!
