Anyone else not watching one minute of olympic coverage?

I've watched bits and pieces. I think I turned it on and watched most of a curling match, not because I love curling, but because I was trying to figure out 1.) exactly what the rules were, and 2.)why is it a sport. I lasted maybe 15 minutes before I fell asleep.

Sorry if I offended any curlers out there. ;)

I haven't watched any of the olympics - for some reason this year I have no interest in it.

I love real sports like MENS hockey and such.
But the olympics are nothing more than exhibitions for non-sporting events, and very boring.
Like figure skating, any time you have judges determining who is best it instantly is not a sport. It may a competition of some sort, but it is not a sport. Ice dancing......................come on. :duck:

me too - we don't have cable so, I'm frustrated by the Readers Digest Condensed version that the network airs...

I lived in Paris during the '84 Los Angeles Olympics and in Canada during the Sidney olympics - Both countries did an awesome job presenting an International Athletic Event It seemed that every event was represented from start to finish including medal ceremonies regardless of where their athletes finished. Seeing the Olympics from another country's POV was wonderful and spoiled me when I returned to the states....

I'm a believer of suspending regular network programing for 2 weeks and give us everything...With VCRs DVRs etc... we can record at various times of the day...

Haven't watched 1 minute of the winter Olympics. I was amazed at how overhyped the games were as were the American athletes. From the looks of the promos you'd think USA was going to sweep the medals in practically every event. Sort of made it a non-issue to watch. Talk about spoilers! (In retrospect, NBC and McD's and others probably should have hired a better grade of psychic to advise them on the outcome of the Olympics. They might have saved a lot of $$ in promos. )

Nope, haven't watched. I've never been into the Olympics much...I do watch some of the summer events (swimming and diving), but that's about it.

Not watching a minute of it here either. I hate that regular shows just show repeats during this time, so I tivo'd a bunch of stuff over the last few weeks so we would have something to watch. I am soooooo ready for regular programming to return.

Ouch ! I dare you to do even only 30 seconds of Ice dancing and you might realise that these people are real athletes ! ;) ( Said in a nice way , just for the sake of discussion !)

Oh no no no, I didn't say they weren't athletes. You have to a great athlete to perform in these exhibitions. I said it was not a sport.
A sport has clearcut winneres and losers based on their performance whether it individual or team.
A skier jumps the farthest, a runner runs the fastest, a hockey team wins
3-2. But a gymnast or figure skater among others are judged by other people on how well they did. That is sooo subjective and arbitary.
Playing college hockey I know what conditioning is, a few of my teammates played on the 80 olympic team. And one of those ice dancers wouldn't last 30 seconds .

I usaually never watch sports on TV , but Olympics are another thing. We are very lucky with our coverage here in Canada. I can follow it in french on Radio-Canada and in English on CBC. It is trully and all day , live coverage, and while, obviously it follows closely canadian athletes , we do get to see everybody compete .

So when I wake up in the morning , with breakfast , it is live coverage , At lunch , most food court and sports restaurants have Tv set up and everybody watches.

I feel like the Olypics have as much Drama as Lost or desperate housewives , and it one of the few times when the world trully comes togetheres ( corny , I know !).

Last sunday afternoon , while watching coverage , i check on NBC to see if they were showing a different event and...it was quite different because it was NASCAR racing !...in the middle of the most important sport event in the world ! People would have been prtesting in the streets here !

So , anyway , do watch the closing ceremonies. They will be directed by one of the directors from Cirque du Soleil who just did the show CORTEO , the new traveling show ! It should be very good !

Could care less about them this time around. I think having them here in 2002 really did me in for caring for them! I hated having them here! I have been known to watch hockey when nothing else is on for a few minutes but I've been too busy trying to pack for my trip to really care! I just want my regular shows back too! I think they should be on sports stations and nothing else.

Hadn't been watching until last night. I always love watching womens figure skating and last night was really good. Sasha Cohen and all the other American skaters did great. :thumbsup2

I just have such an appreciation for anyone who can spin around in a gazillion tiny circles on one leg on the ice and manage to make it look easy and graceful.

Now I can't wait till Thursday night's Long Program.
