Anyone else not too crazy about those giant, inflatable, light up lawn decorations?

I think they are fine. In fact we have two of them up now. A Mickey Mouse and a Pooh bear. Tacky or not, I decorate my house to please my kids and my family. My kids love them. My 2 year old gets so excited when she sees them in the front yard. Everybody likes different things I guess. :)

We have three houses a block away that all set up thousands of lights and displays together and it looks like the display at Disney Studios (forget what it is called). It has the requisite Nativity scene, Santa 'flying' between the two garages, etc. Huge display. I suppose it is tacky to some. The kids love it. Personally, I think the tasteful, one color decorations are the most boring, but hey, to each his own. :cool1:

We have had a couple of people stop by and ask where to get the Mickey since you don't seem him very often. I am sort of afraid some day we will come home and he will have 'walked' away.

I think that some of them are cute. As for lights, I remember when everything had to be white for a while. I prefer some color personally but to each their own.

My sister and I have decided we want to be christmas decoration consultants. A job that is sorely needed around here this year.

My personal favorite is this gorgeous huge colonial around the block. The owners have at least 4 inflatable decorations for every holiday. Including St Patricks day. They have icicle lights across the front and candles in every window. Their small front gate is nicely done in white lights and bows. Then they decided to throw in colored lights around the porch. Which wouldn't be bad except these lights blink so much I'm glad I'm not epileptic or I'd have seizures within a block of approaching the house. Then on their porch they have 5 inflatable decorations (santa, the pooh/tigger/eeyore in the sled, santa mouse, rudolph, and the grinch). Oh and if that wasn't enough, there's what appears to be drunken wise men on gorgeous wrought iron bench). They are 3ft bendable dolls that she also decorates for holidays- for fall she had them dressed up and waiting for the school bus. I think they are drunken because they keep falling on each other.
Now to top it all off, the lamp posts have pink and green lightbulbs in them and giant blinking red and green candy canes line the front walk!

There are a lot of tacky crazy displays but they just seem so festive that I can't help but like them. I find myself getting bored in the neighborhoods with endless rows of white lights.

I don't choose to decorate my yard with them, but I don't necessarily see them as tacky or anything. Everyone just has their own taste in holiday decor.

I will say that many of our neighbors have them, but the FUNNIEST is a house down the street that has a MASSIVE one that literally is as tall as their house - we all have small 2 bedroom homes, and this thing takes up the ENTIRE yard, not kidding. It's at least 12 ft tall. That one does make me laugh =)

I think it is dumb too when someone has one and then they have 3 or 4 more. This guy in Fond du Lac WI last year had over 20. Someone sliced them in the middle of the night.

I think they're tacky...my kids, however, think they are awesome and want me to buy one. Eek. I haven't even ventured out to the lit up wicker-type reindeer yet!

I love them! We have a grinch riding in the sleigh pulled by Max. :)

Had to reply. I do not like them. My neighbor unfortunatley LOVES them! I am looking out my den window right now and viewing their blow ups right across my street. She has a Santa with a toy sack, a huge mother dog and her puppy playing with a ball, a gigantic green Grinch with his dog, a monstrous snowman, and a large wide Disney one that has Tigger, Pooh and Eeyore. That makes 5 and hse informed me today that she really wants to get the Snoopy one too. LOL! I really think they are tacky. Especially more then say, 3! LOL! Other then that I am happy to see anyone put up decorations as it puts me in the spirit!

We have two - Mickey as a Dickensian caroler in the front yard next to the walk up to the door (our holiday greeter) and Mickey Santa in the back yard waving to those who drive by (corner lot). Any more than that and I'm afraid I would consider it tacky for us - but since it's Mickey Mouse, two suits us fine! :earboy2:

::yes::

Conformity is not always a good thing - it gets boring.

I warned my neighbors "If it's tacky, and it's Christmas, it's going on my lawn." :rotfl: Hey, it's all in good fun. I don't have an inflatable, and that snoopy one sounds pretty cool!

I don't have any, but I don't see anything tacky about them. I think they're cute-except for the Simpsons and Grinch ones, I don't like them..but I still don;t think they're tacky.

I don't particularly care for them myself, but for anyone else who does, that's fine by me.. :) Different strokes for different folks - right?

As we were coming home last night, we happened to see one of those big snowmen in someone's front yard. We had a lot of wind and snow last night and the snowman was doubled over and appeared to be very interested in the candycane he was holding. DH and I saw it at the same time and for some reason it just struck us both as so funny.

I don't mind them one way or another. I don't have any but we're not decorating outside this year.

I don't mind them but I really don't care for the Simpson ones. I actually have a snowman in my yard. We got it a few years ago when the kids said that they missed making snowmen since we moved to Florida. I do agree that they look really pathetic in the daytime when they are deflated. Ours just looks like a white blob! :earboy2:

I don't care for them. I don't like the plastic stuff either. Just lights for me, but I like colored lights.

We have a 3ft tall inflatable reindeer. We found it on sale for $6 and the kids loved it. Now we have the white lights around the house, lining our lawn and porch... very classy. With the reindeer tucked off in a corner of our yard. But I love the tacky "griswald-esque" houses just because of how happy it makes my kids. Really I'm shocked at some of the attitudes here and how people are so negative about what is just an expression of Christmas spirit. Its not like its up year round or affects your home value or anything. And BTW my neighbor directly across the street, and one 2 houses down have displays that could rival Clark Griswald anyday. Just makes me smile.
