Anyone else not too crazy about those giant, inflatable, light up lawn decorations?

Ugh! I absolutely hate them! I know it is to each his own and all of that, but still! The worst thing is when I see this otherwise very beautifully decorated house and BAM! Right in the middle of the classy decorations is a tacky inflatable decoration. It is like an eye sore to me and kind of takes away from the beauty of the other decorations. But it isn't my business what people put in their yards anyway, so I get over it.

We have three :rolleyes1 And our front yard is not that big. And our neighbors have three, too. So within maybe 100 feet, there are six. They are pretty popular in our sub, too. In the mile or so drive from the main road to my house, I drive by a dozen or so (not counting the six between my neighbor and I). I like them at night. Guess I'm tacky. :D

We have a spider for Halloween, too, but we aren't going to use it anymore. Instead we have a mini-'graveyard' with an animated tree. We don't, however, put up any stings of lights except at Christmas. Despite the fact that we enjoy holidays by over-decorating (in apparantly many) people's opinions, we draw the line at strings of lights for any holiday other than Christmas.

I live in the country....have a HUGE front yard and I LOVE driving up our long driveway to see a lit up Santa waving at me ::yes::

but I never see a nativity scene anymore

I've seen an inflatable nativity scene. :teeth: It has Mary, Joseph, & Baby Jesus.

They don't bother me. I like some more than others. I like the Mickey one, the Pooh one and the Grinch one but I do not like the Simpson one!!

We just inherited one from my sister because my 13 year old nephew thought it was tacky! So we have an igloo with a Snowman on top! My DDs were so excited. They LOVE them. They are so easy to set up and my DH doesn't like to decorate so I can do it myself!

It's just like the Sports Illustrated blurb every week: "This week's sign that the apocolypse is upon us." :)

I don't have one but I like them just fine. My neighbor has a giant snowman but it keeps blowing over and deflating. I like the tacky overdone houses best, it's fun to drive by them and see everything lit up, the 'tasteful' houses are just boring. *yawn*

I am not a fan of them - but hey - not in my yard, so I dont't care.
Our neighbor has one... she hates it but her kids love it, so she gave in:)

A couple of people on our street have the giant inflatable snowmen. The problem is, they're either flat on their backs, or drilling their carrots into the ground.

The snowmen, not the neighbours. :upsidedow

They are all over my neighborhood. Some are very nice. One of my neighbors who owns a couple of car dealerships has several of these inflatables plus (i) a topiary horse hooked up to a santa sleigh with an inflatable santa in the sleigh, (ii) a herd of reindeer frames with lights, (iii) a topiary longhorn (like Bevo for UT) with a Santa sleigh attached and stuff Santa in the back, and (iv) in addition to normal lights, an American flag in lights on the side of their house. It is a huge house and actually looks fairly nice.

There is another house in the neighborhood that used to have Rosewell type aliens (they have a great Halloween display) pulling a sleigh. They have cut back this year to tasteful flying saucer decorations in the tree and no aliens.

Someone came into home depot the other day when I was there and bought a 12' tall blow up snowman. Said his wife hated them so he thought he would pull a joke on her. I can only imagine her surprise when she came home to find that in their yard. :flower:

I think they are tacky, tacky, tacky. But it's their yard and they are free to put up what they like for Christmas. And I think the beautifully decorated houses are just that...beautiful! Not boring at all. My DH is less forgiving; when he sees stuff like that he says "If it wasn't for bad taste, some people would have no taste at all". I think someone should tell him this about his clothes!

CLC Tiger Pom Mom :cheer2:

I don't personally care for them. I have a friend that bought a huge Snowman and a Santa ($40 bucks a peice at Costco)
Some stupid jerk took a sharp object and slit them down the middle so she had to throw them out. What a waste of money. :earseek:

I don't care for them. My mom can't stand them but she said she saw one the other day that made her laugh- it was the "Bumble" from Rudolph.

I don't like them, but I think they're better than the lifesize, plastic, light-up nativity scenes. Those things are creepy.

Not as surprised as my daughter was last year when she came home from college and found a giant Santa in her bedroom!

Our neighbor set it up as a surprise while I was picking her up at the airport.

Omigosh I despise them, I think they are horrid, ugly and stupid. I always fool around with the kids when we drive by and say "Where is our bb gun?"

Giant, inflatable, light up lawn decorations give me nightmares!

 My neighbor has a big ole HOMER in his yard!!!
