Anyone else not make room requests?

We have a woods view room booked for our Christmas trip to Wilderness Lodge, and I'm thinking that I shouldn't request a specific area, room, etc. within the view that I've booked. I hear lots of people asking about where to request. However, if we happened to get upgraded somehow, wouldn't you be more likely to receive an upgrade without a request? I don't think the hotel would want to move someone who requested (north side, 4th floor, room # whatever, etc.). I wouldn't want to mess with someone who knew that specifically what they wanted.

I also think it's more fun to be surprised when you get there. Sure it's great to get what you want, and I understand why many of you request. All I request is non-smoking. But, I always book a room view where I know I will be happy with even the worst of the rooms in that category. Who else just thinks it's more fun to not request and be surprised?

I'm like you, but my rationale is that if I don't ask for something, I can't be disappointed. I think way too many people get their hopes up that they will get exactly what they want and then, when they don't, they start their vacation out disappointed.

If you reserve a room type that you can be satisfied with, then I think you'll be happy and can only be pleasantly surprised if you get something nicer. The folks that reserve a standard view and then are upset that they don't get preferred (whatever), are just asking for disappointment.

You're not alone! We don't make room requests either for reasons mentioned above by Sandi.

I request non-smoking since it is a medical necessity for DS#2, but other than that, I see what they give me. If I don't like it, I may (very nicely) ask for something else. But I've never been disappointed.

Last year we booked woods view at WL. I asked if it happened to be overlooking the otter pond on whatever side. The CM said no, but she had two rooms that were, would I like two queens or the the bunk beds? We saw woods, otter pond, fireworks, monorail, and Cinderella's Castle. I've booked standard views at AKL were the CM checking us in, said he had a better room--deluxe savannah.

I think not having requests is the way to go. We just book the bare minimum of what we'd be happy with and cross our fingers.

I make requests at some places- at the Polynesian, for instance, I always request a room with a balcony, since some of the buildings don't have them on 2nd floor rooms. Most of the time, though, it is a lot more fun to leave it up to chance! I've found some of my favorite locations this way.

We only requested a Lagoon View non smoking room at the Poly for next weekend.
We are at the Poly - that is choice enough! :)

I agree that it is more fun to be surprised. I only ask for Non Smoking because of my DS. Other than that surprise me! We stayed at POP in January and we were put in the 70's section facing the lake. I loved it because it was so quiet. My kids were disappointed because we weren't near a pool. This September we are staying at POP again. I keep asking my kids if they want me to request a certain section and they all say NO!! We want to be surprised! I think it adds to the whole Disney experience! Can't wait to see where we are put this time!

I have never sent in a request ahead of time, but most of the time when I check in I will request a room close to the parking lot, since I always have a rental car. Once at ASMU I requested a specific part of a specific building, because I had stayed there before and really liked the area (the CM got me just the right room!)

At off-site places I don't think I've ever made a room request, except non-smoking.

We don't make any requests except for non-smoking. I don't really care what the view is outside my room, it's still better than the view from my office, which overlooks a rather bleak and dreary parking lot. We don't care whether we're close to a main building or a bus stop, because we love walking through the resort and people-watching. We're Disney veterans and no longer rush around while we're on vacation. We've never had a room that we've been unhappy with for any reason!

First time at AKL on Sept. 5, booked standard room and asked for non-smoking and roll-in shower......stupid arthritic knees can't bend enough to get into a bathtub.......
But whatever they give us will be fine....I'm just happy to GO SOMEWHERE!!!!
