We have a woods view room booked for our Christmas trip to Wilderness Lodge, and I'm thinking that I shouldn't request a specific area, room, etc. within the view that I've booked. I hear lots of people asking about where to request. However, if we happened to get upgraded somehow, wouldn't you be more likely to receive an upgrade without a request? I don't think the hotel would want to move someone who requested (north side, 4th floor, room # whatever, etc.). I wouldn't want to mess with someone who knew that specifically what they wanted.
I also think it's more fun to be surprised when you get there. Sure it's great to get what you want, and I understand why many of you request. All I request is non-smoking. But, I always book a room view where I know I will be happy with even the worst of the rooms in that category. Who else just thinks it's more fun to not request and be surprised?
