Anyone else NOT care about Capatin EO?

I saw it several times as a teenager... mainly to get out of the heat!! It seemed very cheesy to me even then...not well done. At least HISTA is well done, film quality wise. So no, I have no plans to go see Captain EO at all. My DH has very strong feelings about him, and would never go again. DS 9would like to see it, having started to like his music after his death. But I'm not going in with him, so maybe his sister will want to go... probably not... haha I'll take the shorter line at Space any day!

Molly, you can still see HISTA at WDW! I can't remember at the moment which park it's in. DHS? My DS for years went through a HISTA obsession and we had to see it everysingletime. This was after the Peter Pan phase and Star Tours phase.

Oh you never saw it, Molly? You never wore the attractive purple 3D glasses? Well, I wouldn't say that the music in EO was good - it wasn't even as good as MJ's best songs - but it was an odd little space age tale, and I think MJ is wearing a jazzy little silver space suit at one point (if I remember corectly), and seeing his face that close up - before he got all that surgery - is kind of weird. Plus, Anjelica Huston is in it with long, scary, twisty fingernails and there is an annoying but oddly ugly-cute creature that flies around MJ and makes for an ideal stuffed animal in the store that sells the Ewoks and other Star Tours stuff. Plus, it was directed by Francis Ford Coppola. So it is worth one viewing, for sure!

Yes, the timing is a bit odd. I have a feeling that DLR would have whipped out Captain EO in July or as soon after MJ's death as they could, but they had red tape to cut through and then they had to examine the film and do whatever with it. I think this is probably the soonest they could get it out.

YES! LOL..it is such a corny hoot..and Michael, with that little breathy voice acting all tough guy...my daughter was totally afraid of the spider lady..I loved the music and stuff..3 D was pretty new then and we all loved it. My GS really loves Michael's music..he watches Number Ones and does Thriller..he was sad when he died..of course, he doesn't know all the other stuff..he just likes his music. I don't know how long they'll play EO but hopefully he can see it. I don't think he'll be going back until early next year.
When we are there in May and October I won't miss it. I really thought HISTA was just ''eh'', and way too loud.
OH..they had the EO suit on display at the Expo..he was a pretty tiny guy...

I just got back from the parks. I knew going into this day trip that I didn't want to see EO, but was hopeful that everyone ELSE seeing EO would make the rest of the park quite pleasant, and I was right! The park opened at 10 today, and by 10:30 there was already a 45 minute line for EO, and it just grew from there, but rides like Space, Indy, and even Peter Pan were only 15-20 minutes ALL DAY because of the EO madness. As I was leaving, I noticed that park security had stopped a man dressed as Michael Jackson outside of the gates and told him he could not enter because he was wearing a costume and was obviously older than 9 years old Other than that, it was pretty uneventful. There were a lot of people with EO shirts pins (they were selling them in most of the stores), so obviously a lot of people were interested in the premiere - just not me

Now that's what I'm hoping for!

I was wondering when this type of thread would surface... everyone has thier own opinion and for me.. i'm not God so therefore I shall not judge any man. This is for entertainment purposes wether you like him or not. Pirates are known to lie, cheat, steal, rape, and hold boats hostage but we still love Pirates of the Carribean. Kudos to Disney for not judging and just having this be about entertainment, and for those that love it are having fun. Those that don't it's only your opinion and your entitled to that.

You are absolutely right about that!! As much as I love POTC (it is one of my top 2 favorite rides at DLR), I have always thought it was odd how Disney took unsavory historical characters and kind of kind of almost glorified them and made them to be 'fun' pirates, when, in reality, pirates are not good people no matter how you slice it. Yes, I realize that the scenes in POTC show the burning village and the drunkenness and the misogynistic treatment of women, etc., but it is not such a hard pill to swallow with a little bit of Disney sugar sprinkled on it, if you know what I mean!! The old time pirates were known for raping, pillaging, buring down villages, drunkenness and overall debauchery, and the modern day pirates are killers, thieves and hijackers, etc. And yet, when riding on POTC, the pirates - in spite of their dastardly deeds - almost just seem like a rowdy, mischievous bunch of fraternity guys!!

For that matter, even though it doesn't bother me at all, I am sure there are other folks out there who have trouble with the concept of Haunted Mansion and find anything 'otherworldy' or supernatural to be satanic and evil, and those people probably don't like that the 999 ghosts & spirits, etc. are made palatable and fun. If you watch a movie like "Amityville Horror," it is amusing to then go into Haunted Mansion and see a friendly haunted house!!

That's interesting. I thought it was only the new and improved Star Tours that they were working on. So you are saying EO was in the works even before Michael Jackson died? We didn't hear really anything definite about it here on the DIS until after he passed (other than the 'will they ever bring back Captain EO'-type of threads), from what I recall, and the word was that there were some bugs that had to be worked out and red tape to cut through - along with some editing of some kind. So it appears as though it was a move by Disney to get EO up and running, when, in actuality, it was their plan to revive it all along, even before MJ's death. Very interesting. Thanks for that info!

See my other post on Opening Day EO feedback, but it really had no impact on the park on Tuesday. It was day 4 of my trip and by mid-afternoon, the line for EO was only a 20 minute wait. I didn't notice any difference in overall crowds as compared to Monday.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Something DISNEY *GASP!* related?! Hahahah. At least HISTA was better than this. We should sign a petition. If they wanted to bring back an old attraction they should of brought back the People Mover!
