My two girls and I have only had one cruise, last April. And even though I said it was a once in a lifetime thing we are now totally hooked. We are trying to decide what to do for Fall 2017.

Choice 1: 8 Night out of NY includes Nassau, CC, and DW inside cabin $4705 (which I know is more than last year's opening day price by about $1000). We would be able to take the train to NY.

Choice 2: 11 Night WBTA porthole cabin $3649 (the airfare and night in the hotel will make the prices at least even if not a bit more for this one).

Girls will be 11 and 16. Thoughts? Looking at excursions did NOT help.

We booked the 8 night one out of New York. I have never been to NYC and have wanted to go forever so we will do some stuff in the city before or after which is a bonus for us. The day at WDW is a bonus since we haven't been since 2014 and we LOVED CC last time. That is what made the itinerary a winner for us. We couldn't do the WBTA though since my kids will still be in school and that is a long time to pull them out and we felt the flights might be too expensive. NYC is a short and cheap flight.

If I wasn't worried about missing school the 11 days would be tempting but ultimately I am really excited about this trip's itinerary. (Except Nassau, not sure what we will do there. I have never been but everyone I know who has was not impressed.)

Personally, for us, we'd rather spend the money and get the extra nights and visit foreign ports. Nassau (especially) and CC can be missed or done another time -- you have to decide what's more convenient and worth your time. Barcelona is a terrific city ;)

Have you looked at the cost on one-way airfare to Europe?

Some airlines don't ding you for one ways - I'd recommend checking out some of the smaller carriers. We flew on Condor last year and were not dinged, and United didn't ding us for using points on a one way either if that is an option for you.

Until a few days ago I was sure that we were going to book the WBTA. After putting together a spreadsheet comparing different cruises, we decided on the 7-night out of NYC. For us, cost would be pretty similar, but I wasn't crazy about flying to Barcelona with a 4 and 2 year old and dealing with transportation to the port, etc. Driving to NY will be easier and cheaper for us.

Since your girls are older, I think either one would be great! (sorry that wasn't much help)

School isn't an issue as I homeschool and we can take vacation whenever or take school with us. I do want to do a EBTA after my oldest graduates and then do a week or two in England. We've lived in Germany and experienced a lot of the rest of Europe. My girls haven't been to NYC so that's actually a factor in favor of that one. It's such a difficult choice!

See that is what happens....you get hooked....and I'm sure the next one will not be your last. :) We loved our Trans-Atlantic cruise, our kids were 7 at the time, but we enjoyed it a whole lot. Either one will be great, but the longer on the ship the better for us.

I know! I think we'll do the 8 day this year and then hopefully a 7 day in 2018 followed by the EBTA in 2019 with time in England after. I just hate the idea of being jet lagged at the start of the trip and I suffer terribly going either way. My husband was complaining but I told him once the kids are out of the house it will be too late to travel with them. Sure we'll have more money then but I don't want to travel alone and he prefers road trips and visiting family.

I have another thread just on that now! The TA offered me one. I'm seriously thinking of it.

We had one for our last sailing. We booked one again for Oct 8 sailing. From looking at pics of all of them online4 of the 6 rooms have a pretty good view. The other two still let in light.

I couldn't see any secret verandah or secret porthole rooms available this morning. TAs are fun for older kids nd the sea days are relaxing with pleantu of activities. We did the 15 day Eastern last May and loved it. My fourteen year old cannot miss school for another but I am taking my twelve year old on the Western in Sept. 2017. If you have a choice, do the TA, hands down.

My tween daughter and I are doing the 11 day TA. We did the 15 day Eastern TA last May and loved it. No comparison IMHO. I will book flights one way on points or fly to the UK on Westjet one way and catch a European flight over.

If you have already spent time in Europe, maybe the nyc one. Dcl does not leave out of nyc every year.

I was all for having a TA on my bucket list. Until I read about the recent WBTA and the weather. It's really put me off. I would opt for NY! I have been on a cruise where the Atlantic was choppy and holy moly it was not a pleasant experience.
