and scared to go? I have never been on a cruise before. I saw an add for the disney cruise line dvd, which of course I just signed up to get, and I started looking at the website about the ship and the rooms, etc. It freaks me out!! I don't know if I could handle it. I'm not claustrophobic, but I am not fond of water...I didn't like flying over it for 4 hrs on the way to Hawaii, and the whole Titanic thing comes into my head. Plus taking elevators in the middle of the ship, going down floor after floor. I just don't know if I'd enjoy myself. Anyone else? How do I get over this? I would really like to take my kids on a Disney cruise sometime.

When we weren't on deck and busy doing other things, I would completely forget that we were on the water. I don't have a fear of the water though. Well I have a fear of going in deep water where there are woman eating sharks, but I always felt secure on the ship.

Neveer been on one, but I'm not scared to go either....I keep telling my DH none to quietly that I want to go on one, but so far it's a no go. (I think he is secretly afraid he'll get sea sick, cause he got sick on a little boat when he was little)

Me.

Not scared. Just seems like a lot of money. However I will spend it at WDW, with no qualms. :confused3

As a veteran of 14 cruises, I will tell you 2 things: First, what you are feeling is perfectly natural and second, relax, you are going to have the time of your life! When you see how big the ship really is, it will ease some of your fears. The ships are like floating mini cities. Try this, your first day at sea, schedule a spa treatment and let them take care of you.

Why don't you start asking any questions you want, and we will try and answer them for you. No question is too small!:)

I'm with the OP on this one. I jost don't think we'd like it. We really considered an Alaskan cruise last year. Got the brochures from several different cruise lines, the works. DH and I took a good hard look and at them and decided it just wasn't for us. Can't explain it.

I'v e been on a couple of cruises and I never felt in any danger. It's not for everybody, but it is different, relaxing, and scenic. Your nautical mileage may vary.:boat:

I'm afraid I would get sick and be miserable. There's no way to get off the darned thing and all that money would literally go down the toilet. It's not even just the possibility of seasickness either, these ships seem to be breeding grounds for stomach viruses.

I think I'll stick with DVC.

Me too! We could take a Royal Carribean cruise out of Baltimore for about the cost of a week at WDW, but really just want to do a Disney Cruise and it's about 3x that. Everytime I price it all, going to WDW always just seems like the better option.

Yeah, Disney's cruise line is way overpriced. I saw all the ads for the new Mexico cruises and checked what they were asking. Starts at $3K for two people for a week!
For that kind of money, I'd better have Mickey cleaning my cabin every day!

We spent half that on our weeklong NCL cruise to Alaska in 2004, and Alaska cruises are on the pricey side.

There are lots of other lines that are less expensive; one could try a 3-day cruise in the Bahamas for a lot less to see if cruising's fun. (And I think it is.)

Which Alaska cruise did you take, and how did you like it? I would like to try that someday as well, hopefully.

We have been on two DCL Cruises now and are totally addicted! I felt the same way as the OP before booking the first one though. My DH had always wanted to go on one and I finally caved. I talked with a friend who worked on the Wonder for awhile and he went over the safety stuff with me. The cruises are a lot of money though, so I don't know when we are going to get back:mad:

Me three! I really want to go on another cruise so I started pricing DCL. Oh my... I could not believe how much a family of four would of been. We could do 2 vacations a year at WDW for the price of one week long cruise. I think we will stick with Carnival or Royal Caribbean for our cruises!

I've never been on one and have no desire to go. I'm not afraid, I just don't think I'd enjoy it. I love boating on a lake, but I'm not into just sitting around the pool laying in the sun and I don't like swimming or water sports. I'm much more of a 'doer' - I like to stay very busy and 'relaxing' vacations just aren't my thing. My relaxation limit is about 20 - 30 minutes tops and then I'm ready to go and DO something. Which probably goes a long way towards explaining my Disney obsession - so much to do!

:wave2:

Norwalk virus, freak storms, disappearing passengers, TITANIC!!!... just some of the many reasons I'll never go on a cruise. :crazy2:

We took the Norwegian Spirit on a roundtrip from Seattle. We visited Skagway, Ketchikan, Juneau and Tracy Arm Fjord to visit Sawyer glacier. It was awesome. We saw tons of wildlife, including humpback whales. The scenery is gorgeous.

We liked Norwegian, because they have "Freestyle" cruising, which means you don't have to go to dinner at a set time every night with the same people. The atmosphere was more informal than other cruise lines; you didn't have to get dressed up if you didn't want to.

There is a lot to do on a cruise ship, but maybe an itinerary without sea days would be good for you.

I've never been on a cruise and I have no desire to go on one. I don't like the idea of being stuck on a boat on a big body of water.

I've been on DCL 5x's. I've started planning wdw a few times and ended up planning dcl instead. I just love DCL! My first cruise I was a little anxious. I am a little clausterphobic and was a little scared being totally away from land...but that didn't last long at all. It is so much fun, there is so much going on.... Now there isn't anything else I'd rather do. My mom can't swim, deathly afraid of water...I took her a few years ago and she loved it! I didn't think I'd get her on that boat...but I managed to and she's still talking about it to everyone 4 years later:laughing: I am looking at maybe trying a Royal Caribbean just to compare and try something different too. Disney just spoils us so much. The thought of much smaller staterooms, and having to tender at their personal islands... I just dont know if I should try another line geeze:rotfl2: I do love DCL and they definitely have something for everyone. I love how they split the pools and beaches in sections... kids, family, adult only. Then you can avoid the kiddos if you want/need to ;) It is just so awesome! They are pricey, but like everything you just have to do your homework:thumbsup2 I try to cruise at the cheapest times possible, I don't get the travel insurance, I don't get transfers etc.

Good luck and if you do decide to cruise, just relax, kick back and enjoy yourself. It is a wonderful vacation!
