I got an e-mail from AT&T a couple of weeks ago saying my $5 bundle discount for DSL was being stopped after my march-april bill cycle, which i believe is this month. I was going to call them today (my billing end date was yesterday) to see if there is any way to keep my bill from going up. Anyone else called or e-mailed for more info on this? Did you have any luck getting a discount or lower bill?

Not an AT&T customer, but curious - you're paying for March/April NOW? It's only January! At any rate, go ahead and call. Tell them you can't afford the increase and ask what they can do for you.

They will give you a bundle rate again, but they usually want a 12 month commitment.

What I hate about ATT is how inconsistent they are. I call one time and its x amount and I call another person the same day and it's y. Also, they have all these great deals that you should be able to sign up for online and when I try it always tells me this function can not be completed, please call . . . and they never honor the internet price until I threaten to cancel.

I shouldn't complain too much thought. I just cancelled my phone and kept the internet and the guy gave it to me $5 less/mo than they previously told me!

lol, yes, apparently, i thought it was weird too. apparently home phone and internet are prepaid, while wireless is postpaid. pretty confusing, if you ask me!

everything on ours had stayed the same except for the TV. At the time the guy told me "this is not a promotional rate and will stay this rate". The bill jumped $30 a month. DH called last month and we are now getting all the HD and movie channels for $5 less than our original plan. Plus we got a $70 "loyal customer" credit.:thumbsup2 They told us that this is a promotional rate (6 months) but to just call back and they'll have a new plan. It's a pain to keep calling back but at least we're getting good rates.

Definitely call.

att is full of contradictions/imcompetence....switched to dry loop dsl 3 months ago and it's been a train wreck in billing ever since...only keep them for the unlimited internet on the iphone....any changes means paying for usage...

well, i didn't get a discount, but the woman went over my entire bill and eliminated my non-published number fee (everyone's got the # anyway, no sense in hiding it, lol), so no longer paying $5.50 a month for that cancels out the $5 increase.

AT&T's billing is bad, but then again so is Verizon's, and all the rest of the companies that still sting from the legacy of being a regulated RBOC. Don't think for a minute, though, that it is incompetence. I audited the operations of five companies that now find themselves under the AT&T and Verizon umbrellas, and never would you have found more competent American workers. They do an incredibly fantastic job given how overly complex the systems were required to be, due to regulation.

What they really need to do is rip everything out and start from scratch, both with regard to billing and all the tie-ins between billing and provisioning (the tie-ins being the major block to progress, because it means that everything has to changeover all at once). Got a couple of dozen BILLION dollars to spare? And you know that if they ever do do that, we are going to pay for it. It seems to me that the screwed up billing is better than paying the price for making it better.

kind of reminds me of the situation our gov't is in right now...
