Anyone else job-hunting?

I'm one of those that falls into the looking category as well as the "I still am employed now" category. I worked in print media, and they cut from 6 days a week to 2 about 4 months ago. When that happened, they cut my pay by about 1/3. I've been trying to find something else, but I'm having a hard time. We live in a town of 10k people, so it is tough. My wife is currently working 2 jobs, and I am working the full time plus trying to sell stuff around the house on ebay. I also keep all chores (dishes, yard, laundry, cleaning, etc.) around the house done. But I'm definitely looking for something else. Problem is my degree is I History, and there's not a lot of options unless you want to teach.

Hi @Artygal90, I also work for a performing arts organization (local symphony orchestra). I am not looking for a job, but our son is doing so. He just graduated with a fine arts degree in gaming & animation. The two main challenges he's facing are: 1. most employers want 2-5 years experience and 2. he doesn't want to live in California. That eliminates probably 50% of his options.

This is a budget issue for us because eventually we will need to help him move and get set up in a new location. But for now, he's applying to a lot of places and I'm praying a lot. :)
My niece's husband was running into the no experience problem. He has an associates degree in video/audio production. He was getting interviews but no call backs. He started volunteering at a local mega church. He ran their sound board when they broadcast their services. They said they would hire him when a job came open but the pay was really low. Eventually he got a job that paid at another company.

i don't know. Last time I was in Target, they had a computer application kiosk :)[/QUOTE]

Yes, I have seen those. They've actually had those for years, at least in CT. That said, I do not believe you could apply for a position while at Target and literally walk out same day being hired. If someone has had this happen, I'd like to hear about it. ☺

I'm in the employed but looking. I actually like what I do in my company and like the people I work with, but we haven't had a decent raise since I started (10+ years ago). (Four months after I got hired they instituted a raise freeze for corporate folks.) I get a magazine that relates to my department, and every year they put out a "salary" edition - my salary doesn't even come close to the least expensive position (including less tenured and smaller companies/non profits.) Life is getting too expensive for me to not look elsewhere. :(
