In NY, near White Plains, a 10-year old girl got up in the night, went into her parents bedroom and told them there was a strange man with two dogs in her room. They thought she had had a nightmare and sent her back to bed! She came in an half-hour later with the same story, and again they sent her back to bed. Only when they woke up the next day to dog tracks throughout their house did they realize they had been robbed!

I think they were very lucky that it was limited to robbery. But, I just can't understand. If my DD ever has come into our room with anything like a "monster under my bed," my DH and I get up and turn on lights to show her everything is okay. And, ever since the Elizabeth Smart case, if it was a "man" sighted, not an imaginary monster, I would be up in 1 second. Is it just me, or was the reaction of these parents a little off?
