I was reading some other boards and saw that on September 10th, everyone is suppose to boycott gas.... Is anyone doing this??

My questions is, will it make it better or worse??

Haven't heard that one yet. I do remember hearing about doing this type of thing last year on a specific date. Didn't notice it making a difference then.

IF there is any gas to NOT buy!!

All the stations around my house were closed while I was on my way in to work at 11pm. No gas.

It's surreal. I'm still on "standby," so I'm just sitting waiting in case I have to go down south.

If there is any gas...

Yeah, I heard that one and also the one about not buying Exxon or Mobile but I don't think any of them work so I don't participate =) They've been attempted in the past, as well.

Not going to work, one reason is all the dates are different. I have heard yesterday (9/1) and today (9/2) along with now with the 10th.

The fact is a gas stike does nothing. All it does is shift purchases from one day to another....if people dont buy on the 10th, they'll simply buy on the 9th or the 11th. To be effective people who have to stop buying gas for an extended period of time and we all know that's not going to happen anytime soon.

pah-leeze, people can't agree on anything already, people could never get something like this to work.

If the price is this high for long... No word of mouth strike will be needed.

I thought the "gas strike" was 9/1....

This is one of those ideas that seems to be based on something besides thought. A strike is only effective if you stick with it.... so if you just buy gas on 9/9 or 9/12 no one notices...

As for the gas shortages... most of them are self induced (unless you live in one of the affected areas where there is no power to PUMP the gas)....WE hear there is a shortage, we all race to fill up, the gas station had no idea that their volume was going to double, the gas station runs out. Happened all over Atlanta Wed... Thursday we had gas again...

However, not buying gas for an extended period of time isn't going to hurt the oil companies .. it's going to hurt the gas station owners. They have no control over the prices they set for gasoline. You think they're happy about selling it for so much and hearing people complain? They make a small amount on the gas they provide.

Well, I talked to one woman who flat out told me that "we are making a lot today" They filled the tank planning to charge in the mid 2 range, but when the "crisis" hit raised it to over $3. Now the next tank they won't make as much and I looked her in the eye and said "you will never make another penny off of me"

I know this is happening, but to have the store staff celebrating was a bit much LOL!

No. This is ludicrous, and has no impact whatsoever on the price of gas.
