All of a sudden today, I can't open email or post on my facebook status when I am using Firefox on my laptop. I can do both using Internet Exploder(oops, sorry Explorer;)) I just updated Firefox, thinking that might be the problem, but no dice. Is anyone else having that problem or have any idea what could be causing it?

I can open my email and post on facebook. . .but there is definitely something wrong with Firefox and the plug in I need for Roboform. . .it usually starts at some point after I go on facebook. . .have to click the page and wait a while before my mouse will work again. . .very annoying! I'm wondering if Chrome would be better. :confused3

There is a new update version as of YESTERDAY. It must have auto-installed incorrectly on your computer, or when you updated it, it didn't install right.

That's why I always set Firefox to alert me of a new update, but never to auto-install. [BI][/B] do the new install myself. I never do those updates which are usually PATCHES installed on top of the old version.

Try uninstalling ALL of Firefox, then downloading & installing the latest version. 3.6.13, I think.

If it is still a problem, simply reinstall the last version, 3.6.12. You know that one was working correctly. You don't have to install the latest version out.

How do I uninstall it? and then how do I find the old version to download?

I HATEHATEHATE IE, so I need to get this working.

TIA

Okay, since you want to go back to the old version, the quickest & EASIEST way is to do a System Restore back to a couple days ago. Before the new installation of Firefox. I started noticing alerts yesterday, so for those who have Firefox auto-install updates, pick a day before yesterday.

A System Restore changes only operating system stuff, like the new Firefox settings. The things it will NOT change are: document files, email, personal files, stuff like that. If you had bookmarked new favorites in Internet Explorer, from the day you pick to restore, you do lose them, unless you back up your Favorites file and then replace it later. But, that's about it.

You can always UNDO the System Restore. (Then you'd be back to the mess you have now.) For anyone not very computer savvy, it their best friend. :thumbsup2

To do a System Restore:
Go to START -> Programs ->
Accessories -> System Tools ->
System Restore

Then pick a date like last Wed, what ever is BOLDED around then. (Remember you can always UNDO it, or even Undo and pick an earlier date if necessary.)

It will reboot you to an earlier time and you should have the older version of Firefox in place. :surfweb:

Once your computer is back on:
Open Firefox.
Click on the Help in the grey bar at the top.
Click About Mozilla Firefox. It should tell you you have version 3.6.12 (or earlier.) Close the box.

Immediately click on Tools
Click Options, then Advanced.
Click the Update.
Make sure the button for "Automatically download & install the latest update is NOT checked."

You'll get a little grey box pop-up once a day, :headache: then a bigger grey box asking you to install the newer version again. Simply click, "Remind me later."

It will keep doing this every day. :headache: But, sooner or later, it will give you a different updated version -probably the one that fixes this Facebook problem. Which is why I don't want you to turn off the daily alerts. Later on, you will probably be able to install whatever update that fixes this problem.

One time I was so lazy getting around to install the latest version, I missed a whole version update! So there is no problem if you don't install this new one. :thumbsup2

Imzadi, You helped me before and I just wanted to send another heartfelt thanks from the Disers!!! You are so kind to help people out!

Heck, so many people have me on their Ignore List, I have to keep the few people who will talk to me around & posting. :teeth: ;)

You're Welcome. Glad I could help. :goodvibes

I'm not having any problems, but I didn't install the update.

I know I have trouble with my aol email with firefox. it will all sudden start showing up blank emails all sudden. If simple log out and log back in and it works it self out.

Another that could be causing it is add-on be add blocking thing that use for fire fox too.

My update installed just fine yesterday. No problems with FB or email or anything like that. All runs nice and smooth for me.

Hi Imzadi,

Wonder can walk me through on how to take gamevance and playsushi text links off my add-on on Firefox. I have tried everything that I know to take the darn things off. That includes google the problem and that darn links still on the add-ons.

You can pm if want to with instructions. I would be grateful. I have pretty advance computers skills put I can't figure out this one.

Thanks

Ugh, this is a school laptop and it won't let me do a system restore. That would probably have been the easiest way to do this.

So, I see where I can remove the Firefox program in my control panel. Do I do that and then go download Firefox again?

Yes, but find Firefox first. Usually you have to download it into a folder on your computer, then install while you are off-line. Off course, if you have I.E. explorer, it doesn't matter, you can still surf online to the Mozilla site and get it. I just like having the stuff ready before doing stuff to my computer, in case I can't get online once I've uninstalled Firefox.

You can try uninstalling, then installing the latest version, 3.6.13. Usually it's the patch that's screws things up.

Then, if that doesn't work, uninstall again. :headache: And install the 3.6.12 version.

I found this link for the gamevance. Try the Method 2 or Method 3 directions. This is for Windows Vista.

For the playsushi, it seems to be a bit trickier as it can hide in different places. So you have to try each one until one of them works.

Try one at a time. I listed them as least invasive to more complex. You don't have to do all of them at once. You can take a break, come back another time.

1. With Firefox running choose “Tools” on the above menu
2. On the drop down menu choose “Add-ons”
3. When the Add-Ons window comes up, select “Extensions”
4. The nasty little ******* was called “PlaySushi TextLinks” select it and hit “DISABLE”
5. Restart Firefox
6. Repeat Steps 1-4, but this time select “Uninstall” and then restart, it should be gone

Initially I tried to UNINSTALL it right away, but it wouldn’t work. It makes sense that it has to be disabled / shut down before it can be removed.

If that doesn't work, try:

1. Go to My Computer
2. Go to you Add/remove Programs
3. Then find playsushi or playsushi textlinks
4. Uninstall then reboot

Last, try:

1. Go to My Computer
2. Go to you Disk Drive that holds your Program Files. usually it is the C: drive
3. Then find the folder "Program Files"
4. Find the folder that has “sushi” in it
5. There will be an uninstaller
6. Uninstall then reboot

Good luck!

Thank You Thank You I had try these tomorrow when well rested.

Glad I read this thread. I haven't been able to use Firefox the past two days etiher and thought I had some major virus that Norton wasn't detecting:confused3 I'm going to try Imzadi's recommendation to uninstall and then reinstall. Wish me luck, cuz I can't imagine it'll be as easy for me as it looks on paper:laughing: I would never be considered tech-savvy, lol.

Okay, about to try this. I am just scared about my bookmarks. I exported them to a file, but just worry that won't work when I get them ready. I have a LOT of boomarks.

ETA: Nevermind....figured out how to export the favorites to IE, so I know I have them now.

So that didn't work. I uninstalled and reinstalled 3.6.13, but have the same problem. I can't find the old version anywhere, even when I do a search for Firefox 3.6.12. I hope I am not stuck using IE to check email at home:guilty:
