Can't believe the cost of airfare! Last two times went went to Disney, it cost under $250pp. Now it's over $600.... REALLY?!?!

Anyone having this pain?

I've been looking at the next 60 days and the flight are better $$. We're not going until august..

We sweat out the airfare every year but this year does seem to be the worst. We're going in August too. Leaving out of Long Island.

Yes, I am just sick about it. We aren't going till November, but the prices just go up and up. I thought it was bad when it was $432 pp and now it's in the $490's. We aren't going over Thanksgiving, but our return date is a week before the holiday. I don't now if that will keep prices high or if they will likely go back down.

Us too! When we went to Disney in 2012 our family of 4 flew for just over $500. Tickets for DH and I to fly in November are pricing at $560 for just the two of us. We had hoped SW would have some great fares but all of their flights have a layover and the minimum travel time is just under 6 hours. Once you factor in getting to the airport early, etc it doesn't make sense to fly because our drive is 9 hours. I'm hoping to get some better fares around the 8 week mark but, worst case scenario, we'll drive.

Yep I'm seeing higher prices at the moment, but I'm going to wait it out a little longer since one of my trips isn't until Oct. However my July trip is also kinda crazy, I won't actually know if it's even on until after the next two weeks because of qualifications for a tournament so I'm hoping the 6 week rule kicks in. If not then I'll reevaluate then.

I was checking the airlines directly and even found a flight I wanted to book. However when I went to check out the price didn't include all the fees and taxes so I cancelled. Today I went on Expedia and found about the same price but it included the fees and taxes, so that was a savings. Of course, this doesn't include baggage fees.

Good luck to everyone at finding a good fare.

We bought our August airfare back in November, about 2 weeks after the Jetblue schedule opened up. We paid $400 pp for our non-stop return flights....and thought that was horrible (same time period in 2012 was $863 for 4 of us, and last year's August flights were $1000 for 3).

Same tickets now? $858 per person  .

The strange thing is, both planes are less than half full. I can't understand, with our travel dates being less than 100 days away, while the prices aren't going down to something at least halfway reasonable so they can fill the empty seats.

I'm feeling the same way. I hate playing this game. I found a nonstop flight for the way home at a reasonable price with SW (126pp) so I booked it but I'm worried about the flight to Disney. Right now it's at 168 and since I have to buy 5 tickets I really do not want to pay that. We won't fly again in the next year so a credit would be waisted. I can't decide whether to hold out and pray for a deal in June for their anniversary or to bite the bullet and pay it. Driving is not an option with the school schedules. Right now it's just going up and up and it's scaring me. I really want a nonstop flight so that limits my options a little.

Yes!!! Totally feeling the pain  . We are also going in August and air fares have been ridiculous. We go every year and it has always been under $250 as well. The cheapest I got was $300, but I have to travel 2 1/2 hrs to an airport out of state :(.

I also feel your pain OP and others. We are taking our children to Disney for our 30th anniversary. Two will fly out of Midway, Chicago, and two out of Birmingham, Alabama, but that might change. My husband and I are driving. I have been checking but obviously not enough. Originally the two flights out of Chicago were going to be flying out late Tuesday afternoon the 25th. The most reasonable fare was the last flight at 9:15 pm arriving after midnight. I knew that getting in that late would make for two crabby sons on Wednesday morning. So I booked Monday the 24th leaving late afternoon. Now the return prices on the 30th were $450. They will be driving back with us (back to Indiana) on Sunday. We'll be driving straight thru since our youngest is still in high school. There is only one reasonable flight out of Birmingham on Tuesday, $193. Return flights are $350. These prices are crazy. Airfare is going to cost more than the Disney trip. Good luck Everyone!!!!!

Do you expect that your wages at your work remain frozen year after year? Why would you think the same of airfare?
Every year prices of items, and that includes airfares, go up. It's the fact of life that inflation has to be taken into account with airfares. I'm sure the room rate at a Disney hotel, or the points required to stay added DVC resort will continue to increase over time. He expectation that prices will remain the same on airfare year after year is unrealistic. Since the airlines don't really let on when their airfares will be going on sale, it's hard to purchase them at sale prices versus regular prices.

You are right....I don't expect air fares not going up. But going from $245 to $732 is a bit too much.

Heartburn served up AIRLINE STYLE!
But...as a "Side benefit"...think of all the extra Rapid Reward points we'll be earning! (At least for SWA "cash" purchases!) :rolleyes1

we book AT or SWA. Re our upcoming trip to MCO(Wednesday arrival with a Saturday departure), our flight down nearly tripled from the rate I paid 3+ months ago. Flight coming back have only increased $30 pp.

what's odd is I have always been able to find weekday flights even a few weeks ahead of time at great rates from PIT to MCO in the summer.:confused3Not so this year for dates I've checked recently for a friend.

For October trip, our flights have also nearly tripled.:scratchin I did notice though that the last flights of the day/connecting flights did tend to be just a few bucks more than I originally paid for our earliest in/latest out flights. If you haven't priced out a connection, it may save you some big $$$s, good luck!

I haven't had a raise in years. Honestly I don't know anyone in my area that has had a raise in years. I expect things to go up in price, but airline prices have tripled what I paid for flights for our trip last October. I blame that on the southwest AirTran take over, which happened here last November. With AT, there were usually 7-10 flights per day from my city to Orlando. With southwest there is 1, and the airport here is a large international airport. I am hoping eventually southwest will add flights, and maybe that will help.

I keep track of our WDW flight costs year-over-year (yeah, I'm geeky like that ;)) and this year (Nov) is by far the highest we will pay for airfare going back over the last 8 years. We've paid $250-$290 RT per person (including early bird check in on SW) for the last few years so paying nearly $400 this year definitely caused some sticker shock :scared1:

We are traveling the week of Christmas so I booked out flight as soon as JetBlue released the dates and got $336(3 people) each way. I think is good since the ticket are now $1029 round trip. I was on the computer the moment of the release of dates and they only listed 4 seats at the price we got ($112 pp). I feel very lucky or we would not be traveling.
