anyone else having a small thanksgiving?

SO and I were planning on it just being the two of us, as his mom and step dad were going to his eldest daughter's, and even though we were included we didn't really want to go there. But that got cancelled, so SO and I and one out of 3 of his brothers will be with his mom and step dad at their house. I LOVE turkey. It is my favorite meal (with all the fixings). I think we are going down very early in the day (only an hour and a half drive south) or the night before (if neither of us has to work the night shift) because SO is installing their new dishwasher for them. Then it is back home early because I have to get up for work sooooo early the next day. The trials of working in fine jewelry, although I expect it to be my biggest day of the year!!! :smooth:

Small Thanksgiving number 11 coming up here. Just me and DS. I usually get one of the little 3 pound Butterball turkey breasts and do everything else on a smaller scale. It works for us.

We're going out for Thanksgiving dinner but we intend to cook a turkey so we'll have some around the house for a few days.:D

Just the two of us again. Our extended family lives in Florida or Mass, and DH is in retail so we can't travel at this time of year. I usually buy a turkey breast and then make all the fixings. We love the leftovers!

Just mom and I this year. I make all the sides in small portions and bring them to her house. I'll bake a loaf of bread. If she's feeling well enough she'll bake a pie and put a turkey in to roast. If she's having a bad day, I'll do that part when I get there. I love getting to make what I like, but I miss the days when my dad was alive and my brother and SIL lived nearby. I make sure to enjoy every holiday, my mom is 86 and I realize I probably won't have her here for many more.

This is our first holiday in Italy, so we will be staying home this year. We made friends with another couple during our stay in the hotel while waiting for a house, so since they are in the same boat as we, it has been decided that rather than have both of us cook seperate meals, we would just combine them. Better than being alone. Culture shock is bad enough without holiday depression. Oh, we plan on doing a huge meal with desserts, etc. I hear my dad is planning to fly in next Thursday if he can get a flight (military). Wish mom could come too, but she has to work. She gets to spend the holiday with my brother and his son.

Yep...just 3 of us. We're going out for the first time this year.... to a casino Thanksgiving buffet :) Should be good.

:) Same for us, only it will be just my Mom (85), my older sister and myself. The family has got much smaller as the years go by. My older brother and his wife have 3 daughters, two of them live on the East Coast and the youngest is still with them, but they alternate between us and my SIL's family over Christmas.
The 3 of us usually go out, it saves on doing dishes!;)

:earsgirl: Yes my family, I use to cook a big meal up till 3 yrs. ago, when me, my dd, my Granddaughter, decided to go on Thanksgiving to do volunteer work @the Homeless shelter, so this is what we do, we serve them Thanksgiving Dinner!
O h, by the way GD, is only 10 yrs. old, and this is her third year. She loves it, and learns alot from it.

We do it every year! Dh is a cop and always has to work. Both families live 5 hours away, so it's usually just dh, dd , and I. I do the whole meal with all of the fixings! It is a waste of food, but we do put a pretty good dent in it by the time it's time to throw it away. I really like cooking everything though because it's still Thanksgiving, even if it is just three of us! We have friends over for dessert (they are usually ready to escape her parents by that time!) so I make three desserts, too! I LOVE cooking!

Erin :D

We gave up on traveling a few years ago. Neither of our families live nearby and all the driving did not make for a relaxing time. It is so much nicer to sleep in our own bed and have a nice quiet Thanksgiving.

DH, DS & myself may go to Wright's CHICKEN farm

Ooh! Fun! I didn't know that Wright's did Thanksgiving. Have a ball :)

DH and I always do Thanksgiving and XMas just the 2 of us. Our 2 families put so much pressure on us when we were first together that we decided that this was the ONLY way that we could have peace at the holidays. Even alternating years didn't work:rolleyes: Someone was always complaining. We usually spend an overnight at a local resort/casino for Xmas. We go out to lunch at a nice restaurant for Thanksgiving :)

We have a small Thanksgiving every year. Just me, DW and the kids. We watch the parade in the morning and put up the Christmas Tree after dinner.

i'm glad to see that we aren't the only ones considering staying home for thanksgiving!!

normally we make the 2 hour trek to my parent's house for thanksgiving. but my sister and her hubby aren't coming this year (they live 9 hours away)...and we have our dog. normally it's not a problem to take our dog with us, but my parents have 8 dalmatians in their house...and that's just way too much dog. we tried to get them to come to us, but they can't leave their dogs for that long...mom told me the other day that she's alright if we don't come. all she wants is Christmas! and that's no argument anyway! :)

so it's looking like it will be just DH and me. we'll take advantage of having a nice long weekend together...we'll just get a small turkey and have all the fixins! and that means we'll get a head start on the Christmas decorations!! :teeth:

This year my dh and I are staying put. It's too hard to try to drive 8 or more hours either way to get home to family and then have to drive back in a day or two. We will stay home this year. If my husband doesn't have duty that day we will probably work a shelter in the morning and then my dh's soldiers who haven't went home will come over and I make a big dinner for them. It should be about 7 people total.

this year it'll just be me and dh, my parents and my sister. :) we volunteered to have thanksgiving in our apartment and my family took me up on it. :p
