mine started 3 months ago..

I get a dull upper right quad discomfort. Never really painful.. Maybe a few times a day it will hurt. But mostly it is a dull ache.

Been to the doctor and GI doctor 4 times so far. Have all the tests they asked for. I did have H-plyori and been treated for that. I go back in one week for follow test for that. But the ultra sound and stool and blood and all the tests have come back with nothing. I do not have celiaic disease, my liver is fine, no gallstones or ulscers. Next step is the upper GI scope. I am holding off no that till first of may as our disney vacation is in 2 weeks.

Anyway, it is not horrible. but enough to be aware of daily. does not keep me from working or such. It has not gotten better or gotten worse either in the 3 months..

Anyone else ever go thru this without answers from the MDs

I have stomach problems.

It seems to only increase with the intake of fried foods, especially corn oils.

The doctor says I have a corn allergy.

My partner has stomach issues ... she's seeing a gastro for the first time, and done a whole bunch of tests (all normal) and he finally just said she has a "functional" stomach problem ("functional" is the new codeword for 'we have no clue what the heck is going on'). Basically, it is an acid reflux sort of condition that makes her life suck unless she takes super-high doses of prilosec (much higher doses than are healthy). He has a few new ideas for her, including a course of low-dose tricyclic antidepressants (I guess these can often help regulate muscle contractions in the stomach/upper intestines ... :confused3 ).

Anyway, I feel for ya ...

A question: does your pain seem to have any relationship to what/how much/how often you eat? Like are there any types of foods that seem to make it worse? Does eating a large meal make it worse? Also, have you tried any acid blockers or acid reducers? I'm wondering if it is acid-related, or whether it is something else entirely. Also .. have you had an upper GI yet? Have they checked you for something like a hernia?

Because of my partner's woes, I've been reading a TON about various stomach problems (I keep thinking maybe she has something unusual going on, so I read EVERYTHING I can get my hands on!), so maybe I can help with some ideas.

LOL, you sound like my husband! Doctors drive him nuts!!!! I've had some stomach problems on and off for a while now and they ended up telling me it's reflux and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Good luck finding out!!!!

Yeah, doctors can be *really* frustrating lol! Actually, what is sort of interesting is that her doctor was pretty upfront about the issue -- he explained that years ago, what they now call Irritable Bowel Syndrome was called a "functional bowel problem" -- i.e., they knew nothing about it. Now they are much more (though not enough) knowledgeable about it and have been able to develop some medications for it (though they don't apparently work very well :sad2: ). Her doc said that he thinks the kind of functional problem she has is actually related to IBS, and that someday they will understand the mechanisms behind it. He also thinks that this kind of functional (reflux-related) problem and IBS are probably related (lots of people, just like you, have both). Interesting stuff, but a big pain in the butt (literally!!)

Interesting thread. I was having some weird stuff going on that sounds similar to the OP with the same non-results from the doctors.
My doctor finally has said that it's possible this is more skeletal than digestive. He was able to see area around the ribs that he believes might be arthitic changes and felt I might be feeling the affects of that.
It could be because Advil/ibuproffen type meds seem to ease the discomfort.

Good luck. I hope you figure it out!

After dealing with a bad stomach since 1998, my doctor just told me last month that I have a "functional' disorder. Sometimes they call it a motility disorder or "non-ulcer dyspepsia." Basically it is IBS of the stomach!! When they can find NO bad things in your stomach, it is due to poor motility. My doctor told me that my food probably doesn't leave my stomach as quickly as it should, at times, and this causes all kinds of discomfort. You can test for that too--delayed gastric emptying tests--but he really said there was no point as he can't "cure" it. He said that many, many, many people have this condition and they live to 100 with it!!;) . I, too, live on Prilosec because it keeps my stomach from feeling like it's churning.

Anyway, that's where I am now. OP it is best to get it all checked out but don't be surprised if they find nothing.

I have been having problems for some time...

I THOUGHT I had an ovarian cyst - I was getting classic pains - BUT also at the same time as those pains I would get this feeling like having a balloon under my right rib - pressure, feeling of fullness, slight rib aches. The "ovarian" pain comes and goes- this feeling of fullness pretty much stays with me - just more noticable at times - but always feels like SOMETHING is in there - kwim?

I finally went to the ER on Monday - had a full abdmoinal and pelvic CT with contrast and they found NOTHING! Nothing funky going on with my ovaries- nothing with my kidneys, nothing wit h my liver - nothing at all! (Had my gallbladder taken out years ago so knew it wasn't that)

I've been having stomach problems since last October. I've been on Protonix since November. I recently had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. They found three benign polyps in my stomach. I have a follow up appointment next week.

I have to be very careful in what I eat. I won't eat anything was a sauce, no salad dressing, nothing spicy or greasy. I gave up all carbonated beverages and all beverages with caffeine. I basically eat very bland, high fiber foods and drink nothing but plain water. Boring! I am doing better, but would really like to someday go back to eating like other people.

OP, I feel for you and hope you get an answer soon!

I want to chime in on my upper right quad pain problem that I had for 18 months, that 4 docs couldn't figure out. I had every test in the book and the last test...an ERCP, a scope down the throat to look at the tube that connects the pancreas and the stomach. It revealed that the tube called a Sphinctor, was so tiny that the necessary fluids that you need to digest food weren't getting thru, thus causing tons of pain at any given time, middle of the night, daytime, whenever and it lasted anywhere from 20 minutes to 4 hours. It was not in conjunction with any food I had eaten as we had experimented with that. So they opened the tube in a procedure called a Sphinctorotomy and the pain disappeared. My doc said it "wasn't forever" since scar tissue grows over but it can have lasting effects for many years. I am now 3 years out. It was a "miracle" for me as the pain was so bad that I told him that I would rather birth my 5 year old at his size now with no drugs then to have that pain.:scared: (BTW, I have a very high pain tolerance)

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask!!

OP I can feel your pain and the pain of everyone "not" finding anything wrong with you. You are not crazy, but like the old saying says..."the queaky wheel gets the oil" and the more persistant you are the harder they will look.

Just my story and suggestions.

Good luck!!!

PS..I forgot to mention that when the pain happens that you need to have blood work ASAP since the condition I told about sky-rockets your liver enzyme levels and for some reason that is the "tell-tale sign". If you wait too long then it won't show. I had tons of blood work to 'catch' it and failed until one last ER visit as the pain was happening.
