Anyone else have children sick with this?Update and vent.

that's how my dd12 felt last week, then her throat started to hurt the next day and it was really red - she had strep.

Hope you're son feels better soon.

Not in our house. Sorry your son is sick this week. :( It's finally nice enough to send them outside to burn some energy off!

Yes, DS did last summer. He wound up being hospitalized with a kidney infection. If it continues, ask your doc to do a CBC. That should be able to tell you if it is a bacterial or viral infection.

My younger DD had the same thing a few weeks back, extreme fever and cranky attitude (she's 2 - no surprise) and after 4 days the fever finally broke and she was fine.

It sounds like all of the symptoms of an ear infection.

My dd age 10 had the high fever last week Wed, Thurs and it broke finally on Friday. Her fever went as high as 104.8 and she said she felt fine. But she was tired. She slept alot. She had no other symptoms at all. This week it turned into a cold. I do think it is something just going around.

My little girl has been really achy, tired, itchy for the last 3 days. She's also had a low grade fever off and on. I figured it was an allergic reaction to something.

Yep. My dd, 10, had it in WDW in Dec. Niiiice trip for us! It took about 4 days for her to feel normal again. Sure did cut down on park time tho.

My son had the exact same symptoms beginning Monday. I got a call from the school nurse and had to pick him up, his fever was 102.4. She said strep throat is going around.

The next day he complained of a mild sore throat, so I took him in to be seen at his pediatrician, and he was positive for strep!

She said that the strep that is going around right now doesn't really cause a severe sore throat, and the throat doesn't look that red upon examination.

Ripleysmom! :earseek: Did he have any other symptoms, like bathroom problems or anything? Everything seems normal here in that regard.

Yup, my 20 month old had it for a week last month. No other symptoms but a fever. It got up to 104 one night. I took her to the doctor 3 times in that week (she is prone to ear infections), but her ears were fine each time. It had to run its course and finally after a week the fever broke. It will pass.

Yep, it was terrible!! High fever, headache, aches, went through all our little grands a few weeks back. Each went to the dr as a precaution and all the ped came up with was viral. Unfortunately there was no miracle pill...just motrin and tylenol. Liquids and pop cycles when they feel up to it. It lasted 4 or 5 days.

There is also another one w/V&D going around here too. My 16yo Gson (who never gets sick) and I caught it. It was the sickest I've been in years and years and I thought my time had come !! My DH forced me to go to the dr and he ran bld work and stool testing (sorry, I know, TMI) Again, it was just viral. Hope everyone feels better soon ^i^.

Can you take him to the ER or a walk in medical place just to see if there's an obvious reason for the fever?

My kids seem to run fevers ocassionally with no underlying cause. I usually take them to the doctor and rarely do I get a satisfactory answer to what is actually causing the fever.

Hope your son feels better real soon crb.....

My dd had this same thing about 3 weeks ago. Her only symtpoms were fever - 103-103.3 for 5 straight days - and she had some chills. She would get dizzy when she stood up with some headaches, but I think that was from laying around for so long. I took her to the dr. and was told it was a virus, let it run its course. I called back after the fourth day of 103 fever and was told to bring her in the next day if it didn't go down below 102. The next day it was 102 and still took several days to get back to normal. She ended up being sick for a total of 8 days. It is so hard watching them feel so miserable. Hope your son feels better.

By the way, I alternated motrin and tylenol because the motrin was only lasting about 3-4 hours and the fever would be back up to 103.

For the teenage kids, ask the doctor or ER staff if it could possibly be mono - it takes a blood test to confirm. The fever, aches, even the sore throats are all symptoms - particularly if the kids are really tired.

Good luck!!!

Ds had this before Christmas. Lasted 8 days! High fever that came down with Advil/Tylenol. No other symptoms. Doc said just a virus. (I hate that answer. ;))
