Anyone else have bugs in the jacuzzi jets?

We filled up the tub, no bugs, sat, turned on the jets and jacuzzied, and when we stood up there were about 40 little black bugs in there that I can only guess had sought the dark wetness of the jets. Has this happened to anyone else, or was it because they were painting our building and the paint drove them in? The supervisor tried to say it was because the love bugs had started, but they weren't there the night before when they hadn't started painting! It was very upsetting, and I'd love to hear if it happened to anyone else and what reason they were told.

Thanks :)

Never had any problem like that! Which resort was this at?

I'm not sure about the love bugs as an explanation but I did see one of the baseball players down in FL for spring training complaining about them!

This was at OKW. The painting was a huge disruption and I wondered if it caused the bugs in the spa too :(

Pixie,

This is why I included a section on my HOW TO JACUZZI 101 on my webpage which suggested that you pre-clean your jacuzzi before you use it. If you had done this and the bugs still appeared the first time you used it after the cleaning cycle, you could assume that they entered while you were there and not were left over from a previous guest.

Tommy, why would you assume I did not preclean my jacuzzi? I *always* do that, for one thing because we don't like sitting in blue water. My message also did state that we used it the night before the painting with *no* bugs, so yes the whole point of my message was that we already knew they were "not left over," and are trying to find out if it was the painting or "just love bug season" that caused the problem.

Cheers :)

we generally go in the love bugs season - May and September and this has never been a problem. Were the love bugs coming in the room?

How do you clean the jacuzzi? I don't want to have this problem on our trip !!!

We were there the last week of September and the hatch was on!! Yet we never noticed any love bugs in the jacuzzi jets. My "2 little swans" even took a jacuzzi bath and there weren't any!!

I offered advice on how to clean the jets on my How to Jacuzzi page of my website. Basically, run the tub full of water, at least over the jet ports, and then put in a little (LITTLE) automatic dishwasher detergent, or Calgone, and run the jets for a few minutes. That circulates the water and flushes out the tubes that you cannot see. It's all explained in How To Jacuzzi.

This just confirms what I thought that the supervisor's "love bug" excuse was not true. Since paint is the only variable, I would have to blame it on the paint! The actual supervisor has been out sick, but her assistant called me a couple of days ago and claimed that they "should have" told us a check-in about the painting (only one building at a time is painted, so why did they have to stick us in it?). Also when we had the other problems like the guy smoking on our (non-smoking) balcony, and them all making a ton of noise and peeking in our condo on Valentine's morning (!!!), he claims if the people I talked to had told him, he "would have" told the painters to back off for the length of our stay. Not that it helps now. We did not have the full use of our unit, either the balcony or the inside when they were waking us up, peeking, etc., so I feel it was a loss of points, not to mention time and enjoyment. BTW, the air conditioning was also broken when we arrived, wasting 2 hours of time we wanted to go out waiting to see if it could be fixed or if we'd have to move. Although they claimed there was nowhere to move us to that night. I didn't want to unpack, then repack and move the next day, but if they had advised me of the painting during the rest of our stay, I would have done it!
