So after all these years of having boring summers, I can say that this summer has not been boring or leisurely. In fact its been so busy that I am beyond tired and school starts in 2 weeks.

Here's what we did:

Bought dd a used car and taught her to drive
Bough a new mattress and new sofa
Thought about selling our house so we had realtor out, painted, cleaned and
decluttered, had carpet cleaned and spruced up loft and spare bedroom. Still need to get to the tree trimming.
Took 4 trips to Goodwill, still have extra furniture to donate
Took kids to doctor
Took myself to doctor
Took kids to dentist
Took myself to dentist
Took DS to orthodontist
Got my mammogram
Went to 2 birthday parties
Went to a baby shower
Did a one night stay at a local hotel resort
Went to Flagstaff for a weekend getaway
Got DD17's senior photos done
Back to school shopping started but not finished
Both kids got haircuts

Whew! I'm exhausted. Here's whats still to come in the next 2 weeks.

Dh's and my 20th anniversary
Both kids school registration days ( on different days)
Another baby shower
Tree trimming
Open DS his own debit checking account
Open DD a Roth IRA
Start some college applications with DD
Shop for new insurance (we are paying way too much!)

Well, I thought I'd been having a busy Summer. Then I saw your list :worship:

Wow...
I never thought to jot down all of my crap but I'm SURE it'd look similar, at least in length

And I'm just talking about a WEEK.:headache:

I'll just say I'm a single parent taking care of an elderly autistic uncle, a 21 yo college student on break, 5 cats and a full time job.

My boss starts every sentence with "I know you have a full plate but can you...." :rolleyes1 They FIRED my entire staff so I do the work of five full time workers.

Nuff said...

OP, I need to do all of things you've mentioned, I swear. Unfortunately, my darn job keeps getting in the way. Grrrr....

I actually have a ton of stuff to do but cannot get the time off.

No list, but I have had exactly 2, yes 2 full weekends in my own home since Memorial Day. Between holidays, a tae kwon do tourney, a death in the family, and my sister about to have her first baby, we have been gone almost every weekend. Our family is about 2.5 hours away, and we have been there more this summer than ever. Getting ready to pack a suitcase after dinner for me and the kids for when she goes into labor. She is being induced next Friday if she doesn't go into labor before then. She is at her check up appt. right now. I hope she at least waits until Monday. I really want to go to the mall on Saturday. :rotfl: I thought things would slow down when school got out, but it's just gotten crazier! :scared:

Op here. The reason I started this to compile a list is because I have felt so overwhelmed this summer and I couldn't really put my finger on why. I started thinking about everything we've done and then I realized why.

I remember the summers of years past dealing with boredom and trying to keep my kids busy with trips to the zoo, pizza parlor, movies, library etc. Trying to think of anything new or different we could do. Those days are over now that they are teens. I have been shuttling them to do stuff with their friends, birthday parties and appointments.

Looks like everyone is busy! It just finally caught up to me with the ages of my kids.

Yes, we had a crazy busy summer, but other than a few random things coming up in the next few weeks, our crazy busy part is done. :)

DS aged out of Babe Ruth baseball last summer and it has been so nice not having to run here, there and everywhere almost every night for a game. :cool1:

Somewhat. We started with our WDW trip shortly after school got out. June otherwise wasn't too unusual, but DH was stressing out about getting a tractor restored for BIL by county fair time.

Then June 30 (luckily while the kids were in town at the dentist), we had a storm come through that included an EF-1 tornado- not necessarily at our house but nearby. We had multiple trees down all over the yard (2.5 acres). That first night we cleared the driveway for the semi, and our July 4 was spent picking up with help from parents...DD12 and especially DD15 have been a huge help spending days dragging out branches with the 4 wheeler, loading up the cart with little stuff, harrowing out the rough spots where they were uprooted...it is almost all done. DH did get that tractor done too in the meantime!

Now, just when DH thinks he can relax, my dad's farm tenant called to talk to DH about the farm buildings (parents live in town now). We had been kind of planning to demolish the house this summer. The storm took off half of the barn roof and it's leaning toward a garage, so now we need to take that down too. The corn crib needs to be burned, so now we also have 3 buildings to demolish with more urgency now that the barn is unstable.

Family camp is in just over two weeks as well.

As you can see, a lot of this is on DH. Sometimes it doesn't pay to have a super capable handy husband because everybody else wants him too.

I remember very busy summers when mine was growin up 2 weeks out camping an boatin home a week then right back out camping an boating. Trying to clean house while home catch up laundry and do the yard work. Plus all the dr an dentist visits oh an don't forget the orthodontist. I was always so exhausted by then end of summer.

OHHHHHHH an all weeksnds was taken up out on private runs that involved no kids so I had to get sitter out to camp an back home somehow, Then there was the summers after we stopped camping an boating an just DH an I went out of town every weekend packing was always different some weekends hotel some in private homes some camping some 30 miles from home some 500 or more but we had to be there.

Now that the brood is all grown dh is retired I wonder how I ever did everything I did.

School starts back in 2 weeks? Geez, ours don't go back until some time in September. When did school end for you?

I was just thinking about how quickly this summer has passed, school here starts August 14.

Among our summer highlights so far: My DIL's had major health issues and I spent a couple of weeks away from home trying to help them get set up.

This past weekend I took DS to Baltimore to see a specialist at Johns Hopkins. He was diagnosed with a different genetic disorder than he was previously diagnosed with (not Marfan syndrome but Ehler-Danos-I don't even know how to pronounce this and NO ONE has heard of it), so still trying to wrap my head around that.

My parents, sister and her children are coming in 10 days and I have to get the house ready for invasion by a very active 2-year-old.:scared1:

It sounds like you've had your hands full with helping your kids get ready for adulthood. I feel your pain, DS is entering his senior year and I feel overwhelmed with the thought of college for him.

School ended the Thursday before Memorial Day.... May 22nd. Its Arizona so we get out in May and go back in early August.

My summer to do list has a lot of the same stuff as OP's. Once school got out I had to get DS ready for a school trip to France. Then I spent 3 weeks working on my flowerbeds (raking, weeding, transplanting), planting deck containers and deep cleaning my house (including shampooing carpets) because I had 2 sets of company come at the end of June.

After a 10 day vacation in Sedona and the Grand Canyon I went into action getting my teens situated for the summer - bank accounts opened, doctor, orthodontist & dentist appointments, shopped for & bought a used car for DS, haircuts, getting summer reading books. Shopped for new insurance (home & car). I still have to do my doctor appointment and mammogram, DS's senior portraits, and back to school shopping.

I THOUGHT I had a whole month and a half of summer vacation left. I am a Pre School aid at a PreK through 8th grade school. The rest of the school starts in August but PreK doesn't start until after Labor Day. Then last week my principal called and asked me to switch to teaching Middle School English (my actual certification). So now I am up to my eyeballs in planning, and taking a couple of classes for my certification. I report back to school on August 11th. My summer is so over!

I've never understood why Arizona chooses to do this! I so wish we could have gone back after labor day. August is one of the hottest months! :confused3

About the ED - I know one of the gals who is or used to be one of the moderators on the coping and compassion board has ED. Can the National Marfan Assoc. give you more information about ED? I know they are one of the connective tissue diseases. My sis passed away from Marfans. Its good you went to JH and got the correct diagnosis. Wishing you ds all the best.

I guess I don't really think of doctor and dental appointments as overwhelmingly busy. Not to mention birthday parties and showers. Aren't those supposed to be fun?

Just curious, do you have a job? Just asking because most of what you listed seems like normal "life" stuff not list worthy "I'm so busy!"

It's been busy. Seems like every weekend is either a car show, a road rally or a race weekend. We did the Detroit Grand Prix in June, Road America in Wisconsin 3 weeks later and the Mid Ohio race is 2 weeks away. Business is booming so it's hard to keep up.

That's really helpful, I'll have a look at coping and compassion.

Speaking for myself only, what jumps out at me is how diverse the list is. I know I always get worn out when I have a giant to-do list with nothing that overlaps each other.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. I assume that the OP works and those things on top of that make for a busy summer.
