Anyone else hate to cook?

I enjoy cooking and baking at times and other times I really don't want to, sometime it's a chore and the nights we really don't feel like cooking it is something that is "pick something up" kind of nights. I agree about the clean up. I do try to do that while cooking or while something is baking in the oven or on the stove or setting up in the fridge but sometimes that's not possible, it's just a task not really fun to do and how is it that the sink empties only to get full again :sad2:

I try to find new recipes every now and then to add to our binder to keep things interesting as well as pull from recipes we haven't made in a while. This past weekend we made two new recipes that were a hit from the in-laws: a 2 ingredient pumpkin spice cake (spice cake mix and pumpkin puree, glaze was pumpkin pie spice, powdered sugar and apple cider) which was so good and was very easy and a chicken noodle casserole which was also very easy to make and yummy for a cold crisp evening.

I do know people who live to cook for other people and I must confess it's usually too much food. I also know a few people who proclaim to be a great cook and I taste their food and it's either entirely too salty, bland or just so so. TBH rarely have I personally tasted food from someone who loudly talks about how great of a cook they are does the food actually wow me away but that's just my experience. I will say exception to that is a person in my husband's family owns a bbq joint where he smokes his own meat, makes his own stuff and dang is it good. He would say he's good at smoking meat and his business was born out of a garage hobby. Now that's his job.

I like to cook when I want to not because I have to. Making dinner for myself every night not so fun. Deciding to try something new & fun that I enjoy.

I am also more of a baker than a cook. Cookies, breads, cakes, etc.
I'd say my husband enjoys baking more than cooking. I've found some recipes for us to make over time a bit more than he has but I can tell he actually gets into the baking stuff more than the cooking stuff. He made this spice rum cake a few years back that was divine..and a bit boozy too ;)

I do like to cook, but dislike the constant treadmill of planning, shopping, etc. that has to be done over and over in order to do it regularly. If food magically appeared, I'd cook it. I LOVED cooking when I was a kid. I'd look through the cupboards to see what mom had bought, change up her menu, etc. I don't even mind the cleanup,

I would eat out or order in for every single meal of my life if I could. While I love to eat I absolutely hate cooking. Mostly because when I get home it's usually late and I'm so tired.

I don’t think you’re missing a cooking gene! I rarely cook anymore and I would consider myself a very good cook. When I turned 12, my mother turned the chore of cooking for the family 7 days a week over to me. So, I’ve been cooking for 50 years now. We’ve been empty nesters for a couple of years now and I’m really enjoying not having to make large meals everyday. Honestly, you’re not missing a thing ….. do something you love with all the time you are not wasting on food preparation.
When you were 12 you did all the cooking for your family 7 days a week?! My daughter just turned 12

My issue is the planning. I don't mind cooking a meal but I hate deciding what to make. If my husband tells me what he wants, I'm okay with making it but I cannot choose a meal. When we decide to go out to eat, I also have trouble deciding. I only want veto power.

this is me! I hate deciding. I like when my son meal plans and cooks. He’s 14 and has been cooking since he was 12. He cooks occasionally. I would love it if he cooked a few times a week.

:confused3 The activity of cooking or baking I can take-or-leave. I absolutely LOVE :lovestrucproducing a well-prepared, good looking and tasting dish that pleases whoever I'm serving it to. I loathe meal planning and hate grocery shopping. :scared:

I started doing a lot of the cooking for my family at about 12 too. Just four days a week though. My mom taught piano lessons in our home 4 afternoons a week. My older sister and brother weren't interested and I was, so even though I was the youngest I was the one cooking.

Unfortunately, genetics greatly enter into the mix. Yes, agree. I know people who have lived to be100+ smoking and drinking and I do neither and have autoimmune disorders. Not fair. 8-(
I agree. The whole cholesterol and such blood numbers that they say you should eat better, I believe has very little to do with reducing said numbers. Exercise changes those because for most people I believe they are high just from genetics. Your body produces cholesterol and exercise is the way to reduce it.

The cooking itself I usually enjoy. I agree with others, it's the meal planning that I dislike. It doesn't help that we have a wide variety of food preferences - from vegetarian to carnivore - in our house, and add in some food allergies, some pickiness, there are a very limited number of things that work for us. I guess in some ways that makes it easier, but I think it mostly just makes it boring. I used to like trying new things frequently, but now I don't want to put in all that effort knowing half the household probably won't even try it.

That's why I bulk cook. I'll throw 40 pork chops on the grill and into the freezer with bundles and bundles of asparagus pre cooked. I'll cook up a whole bag of potatoes cubed and/or sliced up in the air fryer and toss them in a bag in the freezer to pull out and give a quick reheat in the air fryer or take to work.

I use to have more time on weekends but I'm driving and picking up my daughter from school and taking her back every weekend now. Saturdays is running to the store to stock her up for the week. And running to the store isn't just a quick thing living in the middle of nowhere so that's half the day. She lives with mom who is usually working weekends and my place sucks so I get to hang out and watch movies with her on Saturday so I'm not home to cook when I did most of my bulk cooking.

Funny story, I was out tending the grill when a young girl comes by selling electric rates through the neighborhood. She says, "wow, you having a party?" Ah no, this is all for me. I had 2 sirloins going on the grill along with 8 burgers, 4 sausage patties, package of pork chops, couple chicken breast, small pan of mushrooms and a dozen ears of corn going and one nice Ribeye which was the meal for that night.

DH and I are retired and I really do hate to cook now. I always have been a "from scratch" cook and put a good hot breakfast and dinner on the table every night. But now, we have so many dietary recommendations at our age that I'd rather have a bowl of canned soup and call it a day. DH looks forward to dinner, so I do it, but not fun when it's all too much fat, too many calories, too much sugar, etc., etc.
Why bother. Out of sight, out of mind. Sigh.
I've gotten to the point of the prep/cook/ serve/ clean up = 4 days. Time to eat, 15 mins. Let's do hotdogs instead. I'm looking at you Thanksgiving.

Now baking, you chop, you zest, you mix, you shape, you bake and clean up = 4 days But then you have cookies for weeks to eat.

For DH and I, I tend to make about three meals a week and then leftovers.

I hate cooking, not a fan of baking and when I do either of these, it seems to take so long that by the time the food is ready to eat, I don't want it. However, in my family, we're pretty indifferent towards most food. My husband has told me he is fine with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches everyday. My daughter would eat Ramen with chicken and peas everyday if she had her choice.

Another one here who hates to cook. I don't like thinking about what to make, I don't like preparing it and I don't like the time it takes to cook it. I make the worst tomato soup and grilled cheese because I'm too impatient to stand around the stove watching it. I have too many other things that I could be doing. Needless to say, it always turns out burnt. I know how to cook enough that I was able to keep my kids alive but now that they've moved out, I could careless about eating dinner.

This exactly. One vegetarian. One meat and potatoes, almost no fruit or veg. One no fruit, few veg. One mostly white carbs, salad, fruit and chicken. Makes me crazy. I don’t mind cooking; I hate getting dinner on the table. I like trying new things, but who wants to put a lot of effort into a meal people are just going to complain about? Or sit there politely, get up from the table and within 30 minutes be making a Mac and cheese cup?

My older DD’s are away at college. I still have a high schooler at home. I had her write me a list of dinners (things I’ve made) she would eat. She did it and posted it on the fridge. There are 10-12 meals. I mostly stick to those.
