Anyone else HATE rap music?

Some I like, some I hate. Depends on the song.

I agree.

My son and I listen to plenty of rap music. He loves all of it :rolleyes1
Some I like, some I don't.

I enjoy some of it, not all. I don't like the harder stuff, but I love the funk-inspired more pop-ish songs.

As with lots of stuff, it can contain adult content and needs to be understood in context by a mature listener.

Rap certainly doesn't hold a monopoly on adult content, though, so it's silly to hold one's self up as a paragon of moral virtue simply because you don't like rap!

Where's the outrage toward Penthouse, Playboy, Hustler...

Heck, where is the outrage about the "romance" novels found at every drugstore, library, and nursing home? They're basically transcribed porn, but no one seems to have a problem with those. :confused3

Yes, moi! ::yes::

I quickly reach for the off switch if it comes on...

Like any other genre, there is really good and really bad rap music. Personally, I think most of the stuff out today is total garbage, and the best years for rap were the early 90's.

Pick up a Jurassic 5 album and you'll hear intelligent, articulate, and very talented musicians.

I'm not really a big fan of commercialized rap, but there are some really amazing, intelligent, talented hip hop artists out there, and it makes me sad that their positive messages get ignored because of the glamorization of some of the negative messages in rap music.

My feelings exactly. Rap as a genre is fantastic. Some of the messages in mainstream rap is horrible.

I started to listen to talk radio when the stations started adding rap to their mix. While there are some songs that are tolerable and some that are maybe even good, the majority is lousy and I don't want to risk contact with it. ;) I only listen to FM now on weekends when there's nothing better on AM. And then, like Robinrs, I avoid the country stations, too.

Just thought that was good enough to be said a second (or third) time!

I like some rap music...especially if it's done well.

I'm not a racist, and I don't like songs that degrade people because of their race, gender, or looks. But the songs that are degrading aren't intrinsic to rap. Rap can be done without all that....

i'm not a rap fan. very rarely is there ever a rap song that comes out that i like and/or can understand. the last rap song i thought was "ok" was P.Diddy's "Tell Me" and it actually had a plot to the song, not just "pimps and hoes and sex and drugs"

I agree, although the whole song is bleeped out, on some of them.:confused3 Apparantly its OK to say HO in a song by famous rap stars, but if said by Imus it isn't.

Does the rappers use the "ho" word in their songs to exploit a specific group of woman like Imus did?:confused3

I like some rap. I can't stand his ego, but I find Kanye West refreshing. He doesn't rap about hookers and blow all the time. Enimen's "Lose yourself" is a great workout song.

I miss old school Beastie Boys and Public Enemy.

Mhm, Kanye West has a lot of good songs, with a good message behind them too.

You should watch the video for 'Diamonds from Sierra Leone', it's a good rap song, and tries to raise awareness.

I don't like it. I can't stand it when someone pulls up beside me(my windows vibrate) and it is blarring, especially if there is alot of cussing in it.

To each their own, I just don't want to hear it in my vehicle!

I'm a country bumpkin though! :rotfl:

I should probably stop short of saying I hate it. I don't listen to it unless someone who is drives into my time zone and I don't have much choice. I don't understand it and don't feel the slightest bit guilty about not wanting to. I certainly don't consider it music. Let's just say I don't care for it.

On a positive note, sort of... investing in hearing aid company stock should pay off big time in a few years.

What's missing from rap?

The letter "C"!

Seriously, I liked some of the early Rap like Sugarhill Gang, Young MC, etc. before all the Gangsta Rap took over. I have absolutely no interest in that and I don't like it when my kids listen to it. I don't let them buy it or download it on their Ipods, but I'm enough of a realist to know that they listen to it.

When I was younger, I used to love rap/hip hop music. But since the mid 90's when it became almost exclusively gansta rap, I gave up on it. I refuse to listen to anything that spouts off violence and hate.

If any man came up to me and said some of the things that they say in many of those lyrics, he'd be lucky if I didn't kick him in his "brains".

Here's a show I seen not to long ago that explores today's rap music and it's views as well as how it may be affecting those that are exposed to it.

me me me :yay: i hateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee it with a passion... ughhhhh

my brother kills me when i have to listen to his stero i always tell him to turn it down

I have to admit, when rap first became popular in the mid-late 80s I listened to it, but since it became gangsta I've stopped for the most part. I just can't stand it and certain songs (Kanye West's "Gold Digger" come to mind) drive me insane.

However, I DO admit watching and waiting passionately for the next installment of that really bizarre rap video 'novella' (???) when it was out awhile back. That was just so...weird. You couldn't help but watch.:rotfl:
