Moderator: If this belongs on the Debate board please move it.

I read a poster on the Restaurant board say that he/she would not be buying anything in the France Pavilion (World Showcase, EPCOT) or for that matter go to see the movie there.

I was wondering if anyone else would be taking their political views to this degee. Will we see Aladdin videos being burned and boo's to Aladdin & Princess Jasmine in the parks bc. they are Arabs?

I have yet to EVER step foot in the China Pavilion for that very reason.

That doesn't make any sense to me, to do that.

No. That does not impact change and will not help our troops in any way.

I frankly don't understand the reasoning behind not visiting the France pavilion in Epcot. It's owned by Disney, all profits go to Disney. So by not going to the France pavilion, you are only hurting Disney. If you want to hurt France, don't visit their country or don't buy products that you know are directly imported from France. I've heard people aren't buying french fries or french toast, which makes absolutely no sense, these products are not from France:rolleyes:

I think that is taking it a little far. It's one thing to rename french fries "Freedom Fries" in a sort of protest, and another to 'boycott' someone JUST because they don't agree with you.

I respect their stance not to want to join the war - I don't think it's the right message to send to Saddam. They have the freedom to state what they want and that's something that the Iraqi residents don't have the choice to do.

I DO believe that once the war is over that everyone should participate in rebuilding, but for certain France shouldn't be extended the generous oil deals that they currently have worked out. While everyone points the finger at us and says we're just doing it for the oil, look at the oil contracts Germany, Russia and France have with Iraq and you tell me they're not doing the same thing - protecting their oil interests.

I won't be visiting the French area for political reasons (Having said that, I don't recall ever spending much time there before anyway-LOL). From business, I personally know some French people and, while I get along with them fine, there are many things about their personalities that I do not care for. I've also been to Montreal and found the French-speaking portion of their population to be extremely rude (not the case with the English-speakers though).

The recent political decisions made by France do not surprise me in the least.

No. Not me. I'll be watching the movie, shopping in the stores, and definately eating in the bakery!

If I were going to WDW, I would definately skip France and Germany. There are other fine restaurants and other shops that I would prefer to spend my money in. Regardless of who the profits go to (items imported from France would benefit the French economy regardless of who owns the pavillion), I think that decreased attendance in certain areas sends a message.

i personally see no reason to "boycott" any of the world showcase countries at Epcot. these are run by DISNEY...not the individual country...

that's just my opinion and feelings on it...i understand that there are other people who disagree...and i respect your decision to do so...

No way. Why would I boycott a THEME PARK PAVILION? The World Showcase is about cultures, not politics. The money goes to Disney, not the country. Many of the employees are Americans, and others are exchange students who have zero, zilch, nothing to do with the government of the country they represent. Why should I deprive myself of learning about French or Chinese Culture just because a bunch of idiots run their respective governments?

It's freaking DISNEY WORLD for crying out loud. I check my politics at the door.

Is anyone else getting visuals of Aladdin, Jasmin, and a bunch of mimes being chased through Epcot by a mob of angry lime green wearing disers holding hot dogs?

.....being chased through Epcot by a mob of angry lime green wearing disers holding hot dogs?

yes ..... Jenzebelle....but it appears evident that the mustard on those dogs won't be French's. :p :teeth:

LOL!!

Did anyone see the SNL news on Saturday? Tina Fey said "Capitol Hill has changed the name of French Fries to Freedom Fries in protest of France's stance against the war. In retaliation to this move, France will now begin calling American Cheese...Idiot Cheese". I about died laughing. :teeth: :teeth:

LOL! Yep, I can see that happening. ;)

edited to add... I was referring to the hot dog thing. :D

This is a very interesting question. One thing I think we all need to remember is that the actions of a government are not related to the opinions of it's citizens. I don't blame a lot of countries for not going along with this. We have a lot of people in Washington right now that are real bullies and could use some diplomacy lessons.

Believe me I'm all for getting Sadam out of power. I wish it could have been done peacefully. It wasn't, so now I fully support our troops and pray this will be over soon.

I won't be boycotting anything.
