Anyone else getting calls (possibly scam) from RCI and II?

I don't usually answer the phone unless I recognize the caller. But, we are having construction some work done by various vendors so I did. Sigh.

Yesterday I received a call about "my timeshare with RCI". I responded that I do not have a timeshare with RCI and hung up.

Today I received a call (showing a business number), purporting to be about "my account with II and my unused bonus weeks." I responded that I don't have an account with II. She rambled on about DVC being part of II and as part of my account I get bonus weeks that I haven't used. I told her DVC is not a part of II but is a trading affiliate. She made a few more statements that were incorrect regarding DVC. I ended the call by saying I use all my DVC points personally, I do not have an II account and I'm on the Do Not Call list so she should not call me again.

I didn't do not give her time to make the "ask" but wondering if this was real or just another scam.

Any insight on here?

It’s a scam. The II talk was about the bonus weeks available, which are not something you can rent out. They ask for a “listing fee” and promise huge returns. This scam is well known on TUG.

They got your contact information from public sources.

Thanks for confirming scam!
Yes, I'm getting the Medicare calls - there's one area code I just won't answer a call from. I can't believe the phone networks can't eliminate robo callers.

I’m really glad my phone sends unknown callers directly to voice mail. Most don’t bother to leave a message, but even if they do I can tell quickly whether it’s worth listening to or just warrants a quick Delete.

I had the most entertaining and insulting experience with one of these scam calls recently, I couldn't hardly even tell the story to my daughter afterwards. I as well don't usually answer unknown phone numbers but I had a medical issue this year and was answering every call as not to miss the important ones.

This woman with RCI inquired if I owned a timeshare, I simply said, "well I would guess you already know the answer to that or you wouldn't be soliciting me, recorded deeds are public record" she rattled off how I had 6 weeks of unused accommodations she would rent out for me and I would make thousands of dollars. I said "thank you for reaching out to me but I wouldn't be interested in renting out any of my accommodations, if these 6 weeks exist, I would use them for myself" knowing this was a scam most likely but trying to remain professional and end the call. She continues aggressively to belittle me for not even knowing they existed in the first place. I said" you are getting a little personal for a solicitation call, my timeshares are really none of your business, may I ask if you have any timeshares of your own"

this woman turns full on nasty says "Baby girl, I'm not stupid enough to own a timeshare!" I was taken back by her conduct, I would've hung up but I had to admit I was interested in her particular sales technique at this point. So I say "did you just call me baby girl and refer to me as stupid, that doesn't sound like a corporate training technique I'm familiar with in sales"

We go back and forth for a few minutes, me trying not to laugh, her insisting I am so dumb I should really let her help me out. Finally, I say "listen, I can't imagine this is an easy job you've accepted here, have you ever thought about maybe buying yourself a little timeshare so you can get away and relax from this overly stressful work you do every day" (hehehe)

To which she replies I go to WDW all the time you DVC owners aren't the only ones who go to WDW anyone can go, as a matter of fact I'm an annual passholder I go all the time. I immediately see this window of opportunity and jump right thru it

I say "OH really AP holder huh why do you buy that annual pass" she falls for it hook, line and sinker and says, because after my kids and I go a few times it's basically paid for itself.

To which I reply "Exactly, welcome to the world of DVC, we do the same thing, go enough times and the timeshare has paid for itself, you do the same thing only on a smaller scale" I offer her my guides name and number if she wants to see about getting herself a contract to try it out. She declines. I ask "Why would you decline you could rent out your RCI weeks for thousands of dollars to offset the cost of the contract."

To which she hangs up on me.

Masterful!

OTOH I feel sorry for her and others who have to work for/as a scammer.

Received similar calls this week. Here’s a vm transcript:
“Good morning and happy Friday this is Daniel Jones with resort services I'm just giving you a quick call in regards to your vacation club ownership and the RCI or interval international membership I hope this message finds you well we tried to give you a couple calls here in the past few days with updates with no return calls as of yet as we wanted to reach out to you one last time if you can please give us a call back here as soon as possible I'm a is currently about 1130 Eastern time I'm on Friday thank you and we'll talk to you guys soon if you do wish for taking off the list just give us a quick call back and we'll update that for you thank you…”

I would not interact in any way, especially stating that you are a member of (whatever timeshare) or give them any more info. Hang up and call the number of the timeshare you own if you feel it might have been ligit. I always reverse check phone numbers and do not answer if I am not 100% sure who it is. I've been hacked in the past and once they get your info they are determined to trick you in any way they can. Good luck.
