Flying out early in the morning. I am not the best flyer as it is and this just frightens the beejebies out of me. With all this talk about terorist threats I am almost considering canceling our trip. My DH and kids of course think I am crazy but I know I will be a nervous wreak on the flight. Any ideas on ways to calm down. Considering the early flight don't think I should ask for that inflight mixed drink  . I am almost considering calling my physician and asking for a script for a mild sedative for the flight. Anyone else out there ever done that before? Well off to change up the packed bags a little. We had planned on each of us carrying on a bag but now will just carry on one between the four of us with just essentials. :sad2:

I leave on Sunday, and was pretty freaked out at first. Just remember that the flights that were threatened were international flights with specific airlines. Domestic flights are at an orange alert (while UK-US flights are at red). The part that's really going to affect us is the security check-in with the extra restrictions. Plan on getting to the airport a little earlier, and pay special attention to the restrictions. If you're not the best flyer to begin with, call your physician to see what he/she says or recommends. My mom and aunt who are flying with me both have anti-anxiety medications just because flying makes them anxious to begin with. There are anti-anxiety drugs that shouldn't make you feel "loopy" or intoxicated (so better than drinking on the plane).

It shouldn't be a long flight from Austin, so just remember where you're going to be when you get through all the plane stuff - Disney!

Best wishes for the flight and enjoy your trip!

Relax, enjoy the flight and trip at the World. As for safety, just remember that the security measures are as about as high as they can be at the moment, I would feel quite comfortable. And for the meds, I have read here on the boards that that works for some folks, give the dc a call.

Enjoy.

If someone walked up to me right now and handed me a ticket to go to WDW,you can bet I would would take it. Of course, I'm not happy about what occured, but I AM very satisfied with MI6 and whatever other law enforcement agencies discovered this plot before anyone was hurt.
Living on a planet with people who think that it is noble to use planes as weapons, use innocent people as shields and that everyone who doesn't believe the way they do needs to be dead makes every trip to a public area a risk. Any public transportation system or large gathering is a potential target for these lunatics. I'm not going to stop flying or stop going to places because of them, however.

If you feel you need to, call the MD and get something to calm your nerves, but I think this is probably the safest time to fly since flights started again after 9-11.

I accept all Tickets that will not be used and can be traded for a flights from... to Orlando.
I live in NY and was here for......
Live your life :thumbsup2

First of all DAN- Hi! How are you! I MISS YOU! :lovestruc

To the OP, I feel your pain.I leave in a few weeks. I'm always nervous about flying this just adds to the stress. It will be ok. The most I will allow myself to worry about is if they're gona" let me take my hair gel and my cell phone and ipod! Priorities, ya know! ;)

 Chris.

Doing fine. If you were looking for me on the old board, gave that up a month or so ago, not my kind of place anymore. I enjoy here, answering where I can, learning along the way. Enjoy that trip, right around the corner. :cool1:

Again, I must say everyone, enjoy your flights, it will be just fine. :thumbsup2

You can take your hair gel, and ipod and cellphone - you just have to have them in your checked baggage.

Ask your doctor for a prescription for Zanax and go, go, go. I would in a heartbeat!!!!!!!!

that is good to know. thanks! Even though the whole point to having my ipod is to use it during the flight  These people really know how to mess things up. Its better to be safe.

Can you not bring a cell phone on the plane in carry-on? I was planning on taking it with me b/c I am meeting the rest of my party at MCO and am terrified of missing them. I was only planning on taking the phone, my wallet and a book.

I hadn't heard anything about iPods and cell phones not being allowed in carryon. Is this a new development?

I'm flying to Orlando out of Newark tomorrow. I'm totally bummed. I'm going to have to take an extra half day off of work to wait in security lines. I've heard at Newark the lines were about 5 hours long this morning. I'm praying it will be at least a little bit better by tomorrow.

The last I heard (about 15 minutes ago) was on international no electronics or liquids or gels. On domestic no liquids or gels.

We are flying tomorrow morning bright and early from CT to OH. (attending my nieces wedding  )

I am not so much nervous about the plane...as I am the increased time in the terminals and security w/ 2 chilren. Also not being able to bring liquids on board. My dd is almost 4 so doesn't count as "a baby" but she would normally pound a couple of drinks before they offer anything up the aisle! She especially likes to drink during the take-off & landing.

So, I've lightened by carry-on on some stuff which is now being checked...and I'm adding in more "I Spy" books, coloring books, etc to pass the time in the airport as well as the flight.

I agree, I would talk to your Dr about something you could take. Good luck!

I've seen at least one report that said that juices would be allowed for "small children," but I would check with the airport your flying from.

I have calmed a small bit since this morning and just trying to look forward to arriving in Orlando and starting our vacation. My doctor did call me in a prescription for alprazalom. I have never taken it before so I hope it helps. My kids our getting me excited about the trip and we our doing the last minute running around getting things ready.
Southwest airlines "A" boarding passes our printed and ready to go. Trying to decide what really is most "important" to place in carry on bag. Documents such as hotel confirmations, disney tickets, car rental papers, etc. of course. Cleaned out my purse of hand lotions and lip glosses. Also had a bottle of nail polish remover I took out and hair spray. Off now to pick up prescriptions and last minute items at pharmacy. Thanks again guys.

I was scared this morning about our flight in a week and a half after the news. I was considering canceling our trip to WDW. But after reading the Dis about all of this horrible stuff and doing some serious thinking, I decided to do that would be crazy! That would be letting them do what they actually want to do. Terrorize us. Besides, now with heightend security, this is the perfect time to fly for the next few weeks!!!! So I have to go to the airport earlier, that's ok! I know that they are going to be on extra alert, my loved ones and I will be safe. I am going to Disney World!!!!!! :cool1: pixiedust: pixiedust:

HELP....does anyone know anything about IPOD's. DH is flying to the Netherlands on Sunday and we have all his fav's downloaded into his IPOD for his travel.

ANYONE!!!

Oh, OP, naaa, DH is not the least bit worried. We flew tons after 911 and so we had long lines..big deal..we will just have to deal with it.

And like another Poster said, if someone handed me a ticket for Orlando...YOU CAN BET...I would be racing to the Airport ASAP!!!
