OP - this is exactly the place to post! Air it here, rather than somewhere that sis can overhear.
(although, my niece found me quite by accident here on the DISBoards. thank heavens I haven't posted anything I wouldn't want her to know about!)
For the record I am not a cook. It's just too much hard work and manual labor for me. My excuse being my body just isn't conducive to it. Arthritic hands and such. I'd hate it if I was mocked for that. With a helper I'm fine. My mom taught me all the recipes and I've a fair hand at improvising. But leave me to cook the entire meal myself and Mr. Microwave becomes my best friend.
I adore pre-packaged stuff I can easily improvise around. The local supermarket has some great dinner entree specials every week. Just add my own vegetables and I've got a good meal. I can do pot roast that way much better than cooking it myself.
I did try a beef roast one Christmas. Made a nice doorstop.
Today I'm going for the pre-cooked spiral ham. My sibs are bringing the sides. Including the SIL above who always manages to find time to make her family Italian Wedding Soup. (I live for that soup come Christmas.) Takes her days to make it. Meanwhile my Maryland Crab soup is basically a concoction of canned elements (vegetable beef soup, stewed tomatoes, crab meat and Old Bay Seasoning with a can of beer for flavoring).
