Anyone else catch a stomach bug from Mickey??

Poor DD puked in the GF gardens, on the ME bus (twice), the plane, and then the car. We felt terrible!!!!! We all ran fevers that night and then felt better the next day.
Is Disney just a big germ fest these days?? The bathrooms were pretty clean, at least.

yes it is. because when sick people go on public transport, they spread the germs. and so it goes, like a circle.....

Unfortunately, the stomach bug does not limit itself to the months of Dec-Mar. My DD got was sick with it for 2 days during our trip last July. She did not come down with it until 4 days into our trip...so I'm pretty sure she caught it there. I, too, am very diligent about handwashing, etc, but in the summer months, you are packed so tightly in the crowds (literally touching shoulder to shoulder with strangers) that just breathing can make you sick. Luckily, we were there for 2 weeks, so most of our trip was enjoyable.

I agree, being sick at Disney is NOT fun.

True..But we see the most posts about it during those months..I have been here since July 2001, and every year it is the same deal, you could set your watch by it.I am sorry for anyone whose trip gets ruined by illness, I usually come down with colds every time I fly, I have been fortunate enough not to the last 3 trips.

I always catch some kind of slight cold once I get back from Disney, nothing while I was there. Except in 2007 I actually did get the stomach bug and I was in the room for 2 days.

But, to the PP who expect people to reschedule flights and check into hotels when sick.....not always possible. I have a job I cannot be fired from with VERY limited vacation time, and in no way would that be in the budget.

I've flown home from Mexico very ill.. as long as you give yourself plenty of time, prepare for the worst yet hope for the best, and are very careful, it can be done. Sometimes there is no alternative.

I'm not calling you out specifically...but if you are sick and vomiting...it's really a CHOICE for you to stay or go? I don't know about you - but if I have a stomach bug, the last thing I would want to do, and even physically could do would be to travel. How do you even manage that in an airplane/through security/an airport.

Cost would not be an issue. And like I said before, would have NOTHING to do with others - my selfish response is that I could NEVER pack up and leave vacation, go on a bus, etc. while vomiting.

Physically, I could not do it. We're not millionaires by any means - but financially, I would figure it out.

I realized on the plane going that I was starting a cold. By last Tuesday, in the freezing cold, it had hit hard and retreated back to the room at noon. I was much better the following day. On Friday morning when we were scheduled to check out and fly home at 7 PM, my son awoke with a t 99.2 temp. A little Tylenol helped and it didn't go up again until just before we got to the airport. We spent most of the day outside, but it wasn't something I would change flights for. At school, they don't even consider a temperature a fever until it is 99.5. Thank goodness, DS had the common sense to get a 101.2 temp and throw up after we got home!;). Had that hit on Friday morning, I probably would have changed plans and flights. He was really fine and it was just about congestion, but I couldn't see bringing a vomiting child on a plane.

Just my additional .02 on avoidance sicne many have mentioned hand washing, wipes and sanitizer gels, and sanitizing hotel rooms and restaurant tables...the other piece of it while traveling is that your body's defenses are typically down - you're running yourself more ragged and you're probably not getting the same nutrition you get at home. So add proper rest and proper nutrition to the hand washing and sanitizing if you feel at risk.

DD and I got it. OMG it was nasty-- I feel like it's the most voilently ill I've ever been in my life. I thought we were extra extra extra careful about handwashing and I thought we used what seemed like a year's supply of Wet Ones. We still got it. Thankfully DS3mos didn't get it. I told DH that if DS got it, we were heading to the hospital IMMEDIATELY.

I was so sick going through the airport, and I even puked on the plane. It was awful. I even took home a few barf bags for the car ride.

(*For the record: I was very mindful of others, I did clean up after myself with the Wet Ones, and I could NOT have not gotten on the airplane, I didn't have a choice, we had to get home and that was that.)

We just got home on 12/11. We had a fabulous time until the day we woke up to leave. Me, DH and DD5 were miserable. They began throwing up and I wanted to but someone had to pack! Poor DD puked in the GF gardens, on the ME bus (twice), the plane, and then the car. We felt terrible!!!!! We all ran fevers that night and then felt better the next day.
The strange part is that twin DDs1 or the grandparents never caught it and they were around us the entire time.
Just wondering if any of you have gotten it too. I mentioned it on my FB and so many people have told me that someone in their family got it in Disney too. I know someone that just returned and has a DS with the same thing too. Is Disney just a big germ fest these days?? The bathrooms were pretty clean, at least.

Yes! My little girl twice, oddly at the end of our trip both times. One time we had stayed at Disney and went to Nickelodeon for the last day and the poor kid couldnt do anything there.

http://http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2620419Sorry but I had to pull up this thread again....on the first page OP goes on about child getting sick. Then in Transportation forum goes on and on about how ME didn't get them home...turns out she got down there to check bags 15 MINUTES BEFORE ME TO LEAVE! So ME bumps families off the bus....well today there is a post by this poor person who missed ME at GF the same day OP got families bumped by their own stupidity.

Here is link to OP's original ME not getting them home...followed by other families story and link. Sad that someone blames MICKEY and DISNEY for their own issues.

I was at Disney World with my dad Dec 2-6. By the 3rd day he had a little sniffle, but nothing bad. After we were home a couple of days he was flat in bed with broncitis. Don't know if we caught it at WDW, or if just being out in the cold all of the time cause him to have a weak immune system.

At least he wasn't throwing up!

First of all, that thread was closed b/c of people like you. You do not know my full story. I have used ME twice before. I read all the paperwork and I did EVERYTHING I was supposed to do to catch my bus! The line for the bags was unusually long and I was assured we had plenty of time to catch our bus, twice. How can you be so outright rude to someone you do not even know?? You can comment, it is a free world but to personally bash someone is just wrong. Yes, I am confused as to why we missed our bus and I took the bus that RAC and ME told me to take. It was supposed to leave 30 mins after mine but it was early and they sent another right after it. I was told it was an extremely busy morning and not the norm. I have learned my lesson and would have my bags down several hours before my bus leaves if I use ME again.
I would never want to expose anyone to an illness. My daughter sat as far from others on the bus and plane as possible. I had no plan for this and I had no idea what to do. I am so sorry I am not perfect. You must be a perfect person!

Gong way off-topic here.

The thing is, when you post comments about how you knew you were taking another family's spot on the bus, but you were late (with an inferred oh well?) then you have to expect people to react negatively.

I'm not sure why you are still confused as to how you missed your bus. You need to be at the bus stop, with your bags already checked in, at least 15 minutes prior to your pick up time. You and your bags had to be checked in with RAC at least 3 hours prior to your flight. Due to long lines, you missed the cut off. Not Disney's fault. With something that important you really need to build in a lot of cushion time, just in case of things like long lines.

When you refuse to own up to your own part in your bad vacation, and instead post things like "Magical Express did not get us home!" you are going to get negative responses. Magical Express actually went above and beyond letting you on a bus you did not belong on. Once you miss your correct bus, they have no obligation to put you on another. You should be greatful for how DME helped you out, not posting rants about them.

OMG I cannot believe you are on Disboards and posted about this!! What are the chances!!!!

WE are the family you booted off of Magical Express just after 11am on Saturday December 11th. I happened to just post our story (on Transportation board) and someone linked me to your post.

Your family had like 8-10 people and at least ten MASSIVE suitcases. You knew you were booting us and the 2 other families. You looked right at us and said something about "long lines". We had waited in a long line too, to check our luggage. we just planned ahead appropriately

I cannot believe you happen to be on this board. what are the chances? You didn't give a rat's butt that you booted us. you didn't think about the chain reaction you'd started?

And no other bus arrived!! How can you claim one did when you were merrily on your way? After 30 minutes we politely insisted that the GF get us a taxi immediately and pay for it, which they did.

My complaint was with the ME driver, who should have made you take a taxi. You misread the instructions! Haven't you figured that out yet? You have to check your luggage EARLIER than the ME time. they are separate. think of all the security screening luggage goes through.

wow, I cannot believe this family is on disboards too. and based on my limited exposure to you and your huge over-packing clan, I am not in the least surprised you are posting that Mickey made your child sick.

For the record, we loved all of the parks and the Cast Members are so great!!!!! We did experience problems with the resort monorail all week and of course the Magic Express slap-down. But the parks are so great, my kids had a blast!!!!

I feel for you....this OP was selfish and thoughtless. She booted people off the bus....exposed the bus to the illness her child and family had...exposed the airline travelers to the illness they had. Then has the nerve to come here and whine and complain about getting sick at Disney and saying MAGICAL EXPRESS DIDN'T GET US HOME!

Dawnmommy---you have more class and manners than this OP could ever have. Glad YOU made it home safely and well! Hope your next trip is better and you get TONS of pixie dust....you deserve it!! Happy New Year to YOU and your family!!!!!
