We just got home on 12/11. We had a fabulous time until the day we woke up to leave. Me, DH and DD5 were miserable. They began throwing up and I wanted to but someone had to pack! Poor DD puked in the GF gardens, on the ME bus (twice), the plane, and then the car. We felt terrible!!!!! We all ran fevers that night and then felt better the next day.
The strange part is that twin DDs1 or the grandparents never caught it and they were around us the entire time.
Just wondering if any of you have gotten it too. I mentioned it on my FB and so many people have told me that someone in their family got it in Disney too. I know someone that just returned and has a DS with the same thing too. Is Disney just a big germ fest these days?? The bathrooms were pretty clean, at least.

We had that problem last year (we were there 12/12 to 12/20/09) but it hit us in waves. DS was sick on day 2, DH on day 5, and me on day 7. Neither of my girls, who were with us the whole time, nor my mom who joined us for the last few days of the trip, caught it.

I think it is just that season; germs abound anywhere that people gather, and a whole lot of people gather at Disney. It seems like every year around Dec/Jan these threads start popping up, and they die out right about when the weather starts to warm up in the spring.

We were at the AKV from 11/13 to 11/20 and we all got sick. DH was sick 48 hours after we arrived (he thought he ate bad soup at Le Cellier, LOL). 5 days later I got it, then both our sons within 24 hours. It was horrible, lots of vomiting, wretching, diarrhea, ....yay fun!

Then, we had 6 people staying at our house for T-giving and EVERY one of them caught the darn bug. My parents said that was the sickest they've ever been.

I guess we were due. That was our 4th trip to WDW but the first time we got sick.

On our trip last Feb. we were all perfectly healthy until the ride home. I vomitted constantly from Florida to Virginia and after that it improved a little. thank goodness I had a box of small garbage bags (we bring them on long car rides because DD occasionally gets car sick). I puked on the side of the road about 10 minutes outside of Disney and then it was non stop. I threw up in my hair (the wind was blowing) and had to wash my hair in a gas station bathroom. I also brushed my teeth in many many gas station bathrooms. The "highlight" of the trip home was when I had to change my clothes in a gas station bathroom because I had vomitted so hard that I pee'ed my pants:scared1:! I was also running a slight fever and was completely exhausted. DH wanted to stop at a hotel for the night but, I just wanted to get home and into my own bed.

There are just so many many people from all different places crammed together, it's inevitable that there are lots of germs to catch there.

I also think that things spread around more there because people who are sick tend to go out and about more at Disney than they would if they were at home. Someone with a child with a high fever and strep throat or vomiting would surely keep their child in bed if they were at home, but at Disney I think many people (understandably) want to salvage their vacation so they take the sick child out while the child is still contagious.

We usually come home with nasty colds but luckily no stomach illness yet!

yup. New years eve while I was at disneyland I came down with stomach flu. We spent 30 minutes trying to find a bathroom because I could tell I was going to throw up but none of the workers knew which bathrooms were open or how to get to them because so many things were blocked off in the park. I guess the parade or something was about to happen. Finally a worker got me to a bathroom and I threw up right outside of it. I was soooo close. The line was literally a mile long for the bathroom and they completely shut it down because of me  They even called an ambulance and wanted to take me to the hospital???

Then the day we were leaving the whole rest of my family caught it.

I don't plan on going to disney any more during the winter season.

I came home with a nasty cold, and it made my last two days there awful. I was getting fairly upset at rude people in the park while we were there - at one point, I was just walking and an ADULT woman turned her head right when I got to her and coughed hard right into my face. Didn't even try to cover her mouth! Lots of people doing this - adults, not kids - guess they weren't looking around to see if anyone was walking near them AT DISNEY WORLD. I was appalled at the lack of sick-manners I saw; when I got ill (from all these dirty people), I carted around a pack of tissues and hand sanitizer and used them constantly, but it was too late for me. Once someone coughs DIRECTLY INTO YOUR FACE, you really have no hope even if you use hand sanitizer and load up on vitamin C.

So I came home sick as a dog (had an emergency on our plane on the way home, too, and it got us into our very-busy airport faster, but was sad), and my beau followed suit. Neither one of us are completely over it yet, and we got home almost two weeks ago.

During our trip last May, we were all very diligent about using hand sanitizer. My Dad just wouldn't use it, and made fun of how many times we cleaned our hands. Guess who came home from Disney sick? My Dad - the rest of us came home perfectly healthy. The sad thing is that he still hasn't learned his lesson that clean hands go a long way to keeping people well. When you are at Disney, your hands just touch so many railings, and places where a million other hands have also touched - it is hard to not pick up germs.

Both dds got sick last week while we were there. I am getting over it now, after we have been home four days.

While we were there and dds were sick, I was reading on Facebook that several people were sick at home at the same time.

i just got back on saturday from a week long trip with my son...by myself..he's 18 months. huge mistake.

it was a really hard trip and so exhausting. and to top it off, while we were at epcot on the last day i started to feel sick. made it back to the resort and ran up to a CM in the lobby who was an angel - she took me to a more private bathroom and watched my son for me while i proceeded to puke my brains out. she even put us in a cab to the airport instead of me having to ride ME. i flew back to NYC with a screaming toddler while puking. awful!

hey, at least i didn't gain any weight on vacation...lol.

I opened this thread because we are going to disney in feb, and yes i get the whole crowds= illness thing , you guys are really scaring me. so much so that i orderd germacide chlorox wipes and they do kill the stomach flu. i intend to wipe the whole room down. we are traveling with 2 elderly parents so i will do my best to prevent this. i a'm scared out of my mind though hopefully by then it won't be as bad.

Gator75 - I'm with you! I always take Chlorox wipes and wipe down EVERYTHING in the room - remotes, phones, tables, chairs, handles, knobs, etc! EVERYTHING that someone would touch!!

We've gotten sick before too but we can always pinpoint it to sick people on the plane. I love when people take their puking kids onto a plane where everyone else is forced to breathe the same air. We can Clorox all we want at WDW but we can't do much about the plane air.

OP considerately did this...took sick puking kid on plane. There is a thread on this and how she blames ME for not getting her home on time in the transportation forum. They took sick child on plane and had kid puking in gardens at Grand Floridian. Lined up 15 minutes before ME to leave in the RAC line to check bags...then got a family 'kicked' off bus since they were late for their bus and missed it. A family who follow rules and got in line for their assigned bus was placed on a later bus and OP has the nerve to complain about ME. They arrived at the airport and home on time. I am sorry but no sympathy here for OP since she took a sick kid on plane and exposed everyone on the plane, on ME, etc to illness and then comes here and complains how sick people at Disney got her family sick!

Most illnesses have 7 to 10 day incubation periods so unless you are at Disney for a long time chances are you were exposed before you got there. Yes, Disney is a germ fest but so are grocery stores, schools, restaurants, etc where we all go everyday.

Here is link to the thread on ME...

I am normally a very sympathetic person and do feel for OP and family getting sick but don't sympathize when they expose others and are not considerate to others who follow the rules.

These things are part and parcel of traveling as a human being. Surely you wouldn't expect someone to reschedule a flight, or book more nights in a hotel until they feel all better.

True, but I would hope she would be considerate enough to take a taxi to the airport so fewer people were exposed ...exposed whole ME bus to whatever kid had. Know people fly sick but to fly with a kid who has puked numerous times is not fair at all to the child either. I just hope they tried to keep child away from others as much as possible.... stand away from others in lines and waited until all off plane to get off, etc. There are small things to do to lessen exposure to others but we all know this won't happen. I think the thing that irked me most about this whole situation with this OP is that she blamed ME for them not making it home...which is not true as they made it to the airport and they got a family 'kicked off the bus' since they were late. It was own stupidity that caused them to be late and ME and Disney went out of way to get them on the bus. Then rants about kid getting sick at Disney...which is like saying others were sick and got my kid sick...then exposes everyone on bus and airplane to illness. I bet money they didn't tell staff child puked in gardens at GF either! Sorry but that is how I feel. I know sickness and flying come hand in hand and we all have flown ill or will do in the future. It is one thing to fly with a cold but a puking kid who can't make it to bathroom on plane isn't a good idea.....

Whatever...it is over and done and hope plane and bus people didn't get sick and OP and family are well. No one deserves to be sick on vacation....or when flying. Not fun!

My DD got really sick when she was 2 in Disney. Then my in-laws and DH got it. Only my then 6 month old and myself did not get it. The illness was terrible, especially being stuck in a small hotel room with two young kids for days on end.

Anyway, I have found ways to work around the germs. Bring a hand sanitizer that's antimicrobial. It's very important. The antimicrobial ones work on the virus. Regular alcohol-based hand sanitizers don't have it and won't kill it, but they are better than nothing. When you are on the cruise or in Disney, the hand sanitizers that magically appear in the winter months are all antimicrobial.

I also disinfect/Lysol the entire hotel room (although I forgot this past trip) and wipe down tables before eating, as well as wash hands a lot. The hand sanitizer must be used before eating anything.

Finally, I have been to Disney a lot and with young kids on 10 trips. The throw up virus is far worse in the colder months, so be especially cautious then. If you see a recent throw up (and you will mostly likely) get away as quickly as possible. Maybe avoid buffets; they can harbor germs b/c people serve themselves with dirty hands. And don't be scared; I was petrified on our cruise last Feb and didn't let the kids swim in the Mickey pool much. I know I was mean, but being trapped in an indoor cruise room for days on end just seemed like an awful option. Pools can be bad b/c kids swim after having the #2 problem, especially a little one like on the cruise ship.

The cruise board had a whole thread about this b/c there were some illness on the Wonder last January. I learned a lot. Like, they switch to serving food at the buffets when a certain number of people get sick on the ship. Interesting stuff.

BTW - the stomach bugs or viruses have about a 24 hour to 3 day incubation; they run much faster than colds.

We were there from Nov. 28 to Dec. 4. On the evening of Dec. 5, DS2 threw up twice. No fever. Then a few days later, DD7 threw up once. No fever. I hate the stomach bug but was very grateful that it didn't happen on vacation and that the holidays should be (cross my fingers) vomit free!!!!
