Anyone else bothered by loud music in restaurants?

The Best Buy's are famous for loud music down here. Went into the new one on Saturday and the volume was unbelievable. Then there was a young couple checking out a stereo and had the darn thing turned up full blast. I walked over to appliances and still heard the stereo.

Best Buy is the same way here. The only thing that is worse is when they page someone on the speakers which is so loud it drowns out the already loud music:mad:

I don't have too much of a problem with loud music in restaurants, but so many places have a cavernous design with terrible acoustics that just make it a continuous din.

Most of the restaurants here aren't so bad, but the mall is HORRIBLE. I love clothes shopping, and I LOVE loud techno music, but not together on a Monday afternoon at 2pm! Logan's is a particularly loud restaurant. I have to agree with Browneyes. I abhor country music, but their mesquite grilled chicken and roadhouse teas are so good that I suffer through it!

Funny story, last night I was at work and while bringing a patient back from CT I noticed that the muzak was playing John Mayer's "Wonderland." While I absolutely adore that song, I can just imagine some 90 year old hearing him sing about getting tangled up in the sheets and kissing all over some girls body and having a heart attack!! It was totally weird. I've never heard pop music played over the system before. It's usually classical or elevator music.

I feel like I end up swallowing my food whole because it stresses me out so much. The stores I will and have walked out on. Restaurants I ask them to please turn it down.

That is part of the plan. When its a slower time, restaurants do not mind if you linger over your meal and chat, however, when they want to turn tables over quickly, they know that loud music and conversation are not compatible so up goes the volumn and out goes the customer. Hard Rock Cafe is famous for this practice but On the Boarder does the same thing with Mexican music, which can really drive you nuts!

It usually doesn't bother me too much. Especially now with DS...the loud music drowns out the screeching he does sometimes. ;)
