Anyone else becoming at tad concerned about flight delays into MCO on Thursday afternoon/evening?

I really have not been concerned about this until tonight.

Its looking more and more like the worst of the weather will be over land from Thursday afternoon until the wee hours on Friday.

My flight is direct from Buffalo NY to MCO landing at 7:10pm.

Anyone else out there preparing for flight delays?

My flight leaves around 9 pm Friday night so hopefully everything goes smoothly Thursday also

I wasn't concerned til last night as well.
We fly from PHL to MCO departing 6am.
I'm wondering how much this system (whatever it is at that point- Trop Storm, Hurricane) is going to hug the coast and how much of it we will be flying through.
I don't do well with turbulence! (Read: How many Xanax can a person take during a 2.5 hr flight?)

We are leaving Thursday and landing at MCO @ 7:25, wondering about delays as well. Our last trip to Disney was in December and our flight got cancelled was at the Airport for 8.5 hours with an infant (was not weather related), we don't seem to have much luck flying. OH well, we will make the best of whatever happens, after all we headed to Disney!!!!

Have you noticed if your airline or MCO have a notification up that you can change your flight at no cost? Might be worth it to pack up and get out NOW, find a hotel room, and just be there rather than having to worry about tomorrow?

I think we are on the same flight. I have been watching the path all week. Looks like 2am Sat they show it off the coast of MD. I am thinking if it is a good distance off the coast the path down should be pretty clear. They may need to fly a little further West than usual but it won't take long, maybe 30 minutes, until they are clear of any effect of the storm. Just hoping it turns further off the coast. This storm is giving me serious stress. I may need an extra Xanax as well!! Lol.

Yup I remember from another thread that we are on the same flight out.
DH was saying the same thing about maybe the plane taking a more westerly path to avoid bad weather. I also read late last night, on one of the many weather sites I've been checking, that the worst of the rain and wind is to the east of the center of the storm..... so away from the coast.
I experienced some bad turbulence flying over the Rocky Mtns once...... ya... not a fan of the turbulence!

I have been following Denis Phillips on Facebook. I think he is a Tampa meteorologist. He has great info but unfortunately he is focused on just Fla so not concerned with us up here. Haha. Yea. I did know about the east of the eye is worse. This is my first flight in about 20 years and not a huge fan. The kids excitement will keep me distracted. And with such an early flight I'm hoping I will still be half sleep. Once we are taxiing to the gate is when my Disney vacation REALLY starts!! Do you fly out of Philly often? Just wondering what might be open at the terminal to grab to eat that early. Pretty sure hotel won't have anything out at 3:30am. Lol.

I have the weather channel on tv right now.

When we flew in '14 I had not flown in over 30 years, so I know how you feel. Flew to WDW in '14 and then DH and I flew to Myrtle Beach (then drove to Charleston) for our 30th Anniv Trip in Sept '15. So, recently 2 flights in 2 yrs after a long dry spell. Since for many years we drove the 16 hrs to WDW....I DO love getting down there in just 2.5hrs BUT.... I don't love flying even in perfect conditions. So ya, this storm is making me more stressed than I'd normally be already.
Yes, we've only ever flown out of PHL. Our flight out for our '14 trip was at 6:30am and it seemed like all or most of the food places in the airport were open by the time we got through TSA. I remember my 20-something DS got a burger and cheese fries and was happily munching away while we waited at the gate. I was like, "REALLY??" Just the smell that early in the morn turned my stomach! Since I never feel like eating before a flight, I've never noticed what specifically is available, sorry, but yes things are open.

I've been watching the live Facebook videos from WESH 2 News.
Its interactive so you can ask questions and they'll answer them.
Last night I asked about flight delays on Thursday and they said likely delays would be Thursday afternoon/evening.
Although looking at NHC the cone seems to vary in timing and placement every few hours so I'm just watching closely.

Thx for the info on places to eat. I did see lots open at about 5:15 or 5:30 which is cutting it close. We could always just grab a muffin or something for on the plane. It's technically still breakfast when we get there so we can have a snack at AKL. No happy with the storm track. Sigh. Still hoping it turns out to sea.

A Dunkin Donuts or Au Bon Pain depending on the terminal you are going through are good options that early.

On SWA site this morning:
"Based on the forecasted tropical weather conditions in Florida, our scheduled service on Wednesday, August 31, through Saturday, September 3, may be disrupted (delayed, diverted, and/or cancelled flights)."

I saw that last night and had a mini panic attack. All the travel chatter seems to be on the Forcast - thunderstorms next 10'days thread. Lots of reassuring posts. Looks better now. Path seems to be heading more towards the coast.

The weather channel has it off of Charleston now on Sat morning, with the worst of it still being to the east of center. Forecasted winds for it at that point currently are 45mph, that's down from 70mph wch was previously forecasted for Sat am. I would hope they would chose the western (over land) route for the plane as it heads south and maybe just skirt the most western bands of rain/storms.
I read some posts on an aviation site. Commercial pilots talking about turbulence and what planes can handle, etc. Feel much better now after reading that!
Preparing for a delay tho. If none then I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Where is that thread? Tried searching for it, but didn't find it.
ETA- nm, found it!
