My current and ever evolving "soon the be the missing link" itinerary has us avoiding every single EMH (except water parks). Ive read up on whats best, blah, blah, and feel that Id rather get to the parks early on normal opening time days than deal with a crush (if there that many people mid-Sept) of crowds just because a park opens early or says open later. I even did our ADR's around that schedule too so we'll see how it works. Is anyone else like-minded in my planning strategy or am I just one monkey shy of a barrel?

That's the best plan for you that you could have put together.
As plans go for your family, its almost perfect.
Some of the things you describe will work great.
A couple of days of not going to EMH might work.
If you don't go to EMH, you won't miss much.
EMH is fine.
I would go to EMH at least on one day.
EMH can be fun,
Why don't you go to several EMH parks?
I would change your plans to include EMH, whenever its offered.

Just a couple of opinions.

You can decide which ones you like, I won't mind.

;)

Nope we hit everyone but a few on our last trip . Extra time is just that and AM EMH you can get 3 of any major rides or attractions in and fastpassed for later before the gates open to the general public.

The nights even if you just walking around MK at 2am is just great.

Now we do park hop right out after the crowds start to build around 11:00-12:00. This is when we go back to the resort or most of the times hit the waterparks for a few hours.

One day because of EMH we hit 3 parks and a waterpark . We did so much that day without even rushing.

The bottom line is Disney is giving you 4 extra hours every day FREE why not take them.

We're going in September too, and are skipping the EMH. Mostly because our kids are so young (4,4,2) and there's no way they'll be able to stay up that late, or get up the hour earlier. If they were teens I would consider doing it though!

I've done EMH on my last two trips but I'm skipping them this time around. Last time it was so crowded after the hour that it just wasn't worth it. I hope everyone goes to EMH that way the other parks are less crowded for me

We will be avoiding the EMH parks this trip. Hopefully we will miss the large crowds :cheer2:

Our time is so limited on this upcoming trip that we will be avoiding the EMH's. We go from the airport to CBR to MGM. The next day is AK only. The following day is for MNSSHP only. With such a short stay this is our best plan.

We generally tend to avoid EMH days. We have done them in the past and it can be helpful, but it's not a necessity for us.

You are not alone in avoiding EMH's. For some folks, it's just what works best. Maggie

EVERYONE should avoid am EMH;)

we luv 'em...initial crowd disperses quickly through out section of park that's open...we're able to ride Everest twice before 9:30 a.m. w/FP in June:banana:

you can keep the pm EMH...way too crowded, CM's not checking wristbands consistently either.

We play it by ear and judge by park. morning ones we usually hit and then leave the park by lunchtime for another park. Night ones we will hit for sure if it's Epcot (we're happy to just walk and window shop, Epcot is our favorite park) or MGM (ride the rides while everyone else is doing the sore-seat shuffle on the Fantasmic benches), play it by ear for MK, and skip AK unless we're just walking the trails.

We avoid EMH AM and EMH PM because of the crowds. When I saw all those people going to MK for the EMH Am I was amazed. It's like the same amount of people as it is when the park is open to the general public.

Trust me. It's a heck of a lot easier getting a 4 and a 2 year old up an hour early than it is a teen! :teeth:

We used EMH in July - except for one night. MK was ridiculously crowded during one EMH that we figured it just wasn't worth it. :confused3

We did EMH-morning at MK at the end of July. I took my son (6), and two nieces (9,10). We were ablr to ride Peter Pan (2X), it's a small world(2x), Dumbo, Snow White, Winnie the Pooh, Mad Tea Party and get in our longest line of the morning, 10 minutes, for Tomorrowland Indy Speed way in less than two hours!!! Then we meet everyone in Adventureland, and fast passed Jungle Cruise. We rode Magic Carpets and climbed Swiss Family Treehouse, and waited for Pirates. That line was about 45 minutes long! Anyway after that we had lunch, than fast passed Buzz. We met Buzz and Stitch while waiting, and rode TTA(2x). We were back at the hotel at 2:45 for a rest befroe heading to our dinner reservations. We also did EMH-morning at AK and MGM with the same luck.

We just came back. We did not do any of the extra hours. Reason: many people are not buying the park hopper option to save money so my reasoning is most people are going to the park that has the extra hours and staying there all day. We got to each park at opening (9 a.m.) and were able to do a lot. The parks really did not get busy until around 11 but we did accomplish what we wanted. I don't bother with the evening extra hours because they don't have fast passes and the lines are just as long until real late in the night and by then I can't stand on my feet any longer.

I have not been to a EMH yet. We don't tend to park hop much at all, so we usually go to the park the day after it has night EMH. It has always worked well for us. I am sure we will use it eventually though!

NUguyinCrew, my philosophy on EMH is the exact same as yours. My DH and I used this strategy last August and hit everything we wanted too. The crowds were never too bad for us, and I'm convinced it's because we stayed away form EMH. Also, I can't stay up much past 11 pm, so I never wanted to do the PM EMH anyway.

Here's my take on emh.

Whether to go or not to go to emh really depends upon your situation. I do have a few general notes. None of these are hard and fast rules except possibly number 1. There are always exceptions. But these rules seem to work in general. .

1. If you are staying offsite, avoid emh parks. You cannot go to the emh and the extra crowds at an emh park will cost you time.

2. If you do not have hoppers, avoid emh parks. You will likely give back the time saved at an emh back during the rest of the day with extra crowds. An exception might be this. If you go to a water park for the day, you might just want to spend that evening at an emh park.

3. The consideration of emh is dependent upon the crowd levels in general. . During slack periods, the extra crowds an emh brings in aren't likely to matter much. So you'd cerainly want to consider emh. Additionally, when it's totally packed across the board at WDW anyway, you might want to go to emh. It still brings extra crowds but much like 105 and 120 are both miserably hot, it's going to be miserably crowded anyway and the extra hour(s) might help.

Morning emh.
4. If you have hoppers and you plan to rest during the day, go to the morning emh park until about lunch time when it really fills up, then hit the hotel. Then head out that evening somewhere else. This is where emh is most effective in my opinion.

5. If you have hoppers and plan to hop directly to another park after morning emh, know that you'll be giving back about 1/2 an hour to transportation. You will also be behind that initial push at the hopped to park if you leave right after emh and if you leave later, you will miss prime morning touring at the hopped to park entirely.

Evening emh
6. The later the emh, the less crowded it will likely be. For example, an 8-11 emh at the MK will likely be crowded. A 12am-3am will be sparse at 3am. Of course the downshot is that it's less likely you'll want to get up the next morning for early touring.

7. These are in general more crowded than morning emh but they are 3 hours instead of 1.

Almost forgot two last notes
8. If Disney adds an emh while you are down there or just before you go, avoid that park. They've just received data that indicates it's going to be jambed. Avoid it if you can. Two trips ago, we couldn't, and we paid the price. We still got things done in the morning, but the rest of the day it was Wall to wall in FL

9. If there's an emh for the MK the whole week, go on your normal day.

So you see it really depends upon your situation what you would want to do and note that there are always trade offs.

As for us, we do not get hoppers. We stay onsite. We do the water fun and more package. We go during a time that is not insanely busy nor slack. The kids simply will not nap. So they'd be all, can we go yet, can we go yet. Given the above, we avoid emh unless it just so happens there's an evening emh we want to hit on a water park day.

We have never made use of the EMH on our trips. I would naturally think, though, that it SHOULD be less crowded when people who are not staying on property leave. Do they not get everybody out who is not entitled to stay?

"no"

WDW is more than happy to let people linger to spend money in the shops once they're supposed to be done "riding".

We have never gone to a park with EMH. We still find enough hours to do the entire parks.

My oldest boys have never taken advantage of using the night EMH either. I thought for sure they would since they are night owls.
