Anyone else avoid a resort because it is too much like home

It's not home, but I lived in California for awhile and spent some time staying at the Hotel del Coronado, which looks just like the Grand Floridian but actually has some history, so I am not really interested in the Grand Floridian.

My mother is from Alabama and says she'd never stay at POR because it's too much like home.

I feel the same way about the WL. Our house backs up to a woods so I have no desire to see pine trees on vacation. ;) I want PALM TREES!!! :)

So true!

I have absolutely zero desire to stay at the Poly. I live right on the water in a house that in my opinion is nicer than the Poly -- and decorated just as tacky tiki.

When I go to WDW, I want to stay at the Boardwalk, YC/BC, or GF. It's nothing like home and absolutely beautiful!

I live in Connecticut and most of my vacations have been on Cape Cod, but I'm psyched to go to the Yacht Club. It looks fabulous!

I live in Connecticut also. But, where I live is in the woods - more like Wilderness Lodge! That being said, we would stay at Wilderness Lodge in a heartbeat because we live in the woods because we love it. We would also stay at BC/YB. It appeals to us, but mostly for its proximity to Epcot.

I was the same way you are. I love the Wilderness Lodge look and have decorated our house in that theme. (before even going to WDW for the first time) I liked visiting there, but never wanted to stay because it would be too much like staying home. BUT, the only places DH requests to stay on vacation is the Hard Rock Hotel and the Wilderness Lodge. (I guess I am doing something right with the house decor. LOL) Since the first time staying at the lodge, we've fallen in love with it. Now we stay there whenever we can. I love the Poly, but if money is tight, I will gladly stay at the Lodge.

We also avoid the CSR as we live in Colorado and want a break from southwestern. If we want southwest, we can hop in the car and see it around here. We love to walk the lobby and grounds at WL but wouldn't stay there after visiting Yellowstone so many times. My husband gets irritated when I say that WL looks a lot like Yellowstone, only much nicer. We also love to stay at either the CBR, Poly or BWI. I can certainly see the universal appeal of the Beach and Yacht Club though. While growing up in NJ, our only vacations were to the shore and I still love anything that reminds me of it. A trip to WDW wouldn't be complete unless we walked over for an ice cream at B&C. It must be great for everyone who visits from overseas (or our Canadian and Mexican friends) to be able to tour Americana at its diverse best. Disney sure knew what they were doing (as usual).

We avoid CSR, too. Although I live in OC which doesn't exactly look like the southwest, I have seen it many times. If I wanted to get the southwest feel I would just drive to AZ or New Mexico.
